Upon calling down the holy fire on the dead body, it begins to go into a series of spastic convulsions; violently shaking about next to Austin. This horizontal dance continued just long enough to be noticeable, before the corpse's head exploded.
Austin: 12
A dark spray of red and black covered the nearby walls and column, Austin able to avoid most of the liquidy blast, as it mainly did little more than get on her boots and bottom of her cloak.
Wanting to end his growing relationship with the floor, Anearis stood up once more. One of the two assassins had been dealt with...in a permanent way. They were now in a better position to help him deal with this one. Anearis attempted make his target trip and fall to the floor as to make it an easier target.

Deciding to try something a little different, rather than striking the assassin, Anearis instead shoves the assassin, knocking him to the ground. ((A1 is now prone.))
Not being in much of a position to move, and a little nervous to approach, Current just fires another tentacle from her palm and has her summoned tentacle strike the fallen figure as well. However, the prone position of the assassin does make it a little difficult to aim.
Bonus Action: Tentacle of the Deep (Location: D14) As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the tentacle up to 30 feet and repeat the attack. (Against A1) Attack: 10 Damage: 8 (The wording of the prone condition, unfortunately, means that Current herself has to be within 5 feet so the attack has disadvantage)

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
"Huh,"Ura says, seeing everyone whaling on the fallen assassin, decides to get a lick of her own in before he succumbs to the blows. (Moves 25 ft to 12F)
"Nice move!"she says in passing to Anaeris, her rapier crackling with thunderous energy that only lights up the vicious smile on her face as she gets stabby. Booming Blade Attack: 25 Damage: 15 (9 + 6 sneak) and an additional 6thunder if he decides to stand up
She then disengages and steps back a bit (to 11G).
The school yard tactic, deployed by Anearis, was apparently exactly what was needed for the party to combat the final foe. A1 was still breathing following Austin's two successful strike on the prone assassin. However, Ura's booming blade finished him. And A1 collapsed completely.
With the threat gone for now, Anearis rushed over to Uthal, making sure to go the long way around the pillars and tried to grab him to help pull him out of the darkness restraining him.
Finally freeing himself of their hold, Uthal moves from the floor covering black tentacles. The hostile targets having fled or now laying, unmoving, on the ground (including one unconscious, potentially friendly individual), the swarm of tentacles remained.
Covering the ground where they were summoned, the tentacles lashed and whipped about randomly, even against each other, though never growing beyond their current size or area.
Ura goes over to check on Maas. "I know that as long as those tentacles are there, we have trouble coming our way. But I think we need to back off. Besides the fact that we all go beat pretty good by these asses, Juppo needs to know that Maas is alive. And we need to figure out who Bloth is, and whether or not we have to rescue him before we stop those pumps from possibly doing whatever the hell it is they do," Ura says. "Lets go back up the steps to those machines, and bring this big lug with us." She toes Maas. And then she gets to work stripping down the two corpses of their worldly possessions.
Uthal picks up Maas and heads back to the pumps. As he enters the room he says, "Now, do not do anything stupid. I have your friend here with me. He is hurt but alive and I am working to keep him that way. I am a healer, from the Church of Light. My name is Uthal."

It was evident by the rising and falling of Maas's chest that he was still alive, though remained unconscious.
Rolling the bodies of the deceased assassins, Ura found the following on the headless one that Uthal had burnt with a sacred flame:
Shortsword (x2)
Damaged Studded leather armor
6 gold and 5 silver
The body was not only headless, but also missing a portion of his torso and his left arm. (Likely lost during the earlier burst-explosion.)
Ura: 9
Anearis: 15
Austin: 3
Upon approaching the second body however, it to performed a similar feat. Involving much fewer convulsions this time, the body burst, missing Ura and Austin.
Upon examining the newly massacred body, Ura finds the following:
Shortsword (x2)
Damaged Studded leather armor
3 gold 1 silver
A "black spot" coin
This body too was now missing large chunks of his body as well. Of note, Ura found an ear, with a distinct shape indicating that one or both of the assassins were elves. Additionally, the color and texture of the bloody mush from both bodies matched that of the fake guard from Midgar.
When Uthal trekked back up the stairs to the cavern with the pumps, he found the halfling frantically raising and lowering the same lever that he had been at when the party first found him. Sweat and tears both poured from the halfling's face, and with the movement, had he not replaced his rope belt, that Ura had untied, the poor man's pants would likely have been around his ankles. "I don't know if he's alive. I need you to help me." He cried, seemingly unresponsive otherwise.
"Ugh," Ura says, swiftly dodging out of the way of the spray. After collecting the items and swords - with a judicious use of prestidigitation beforehand -- she moves to follow Uthal. "... These cultist types tend to do that," she explains as she passes Current. "They somehow infused their blood with that black ichor and it gives them inhuman resilience. And, uh, causes spectacular explosions when they die. Try not to let the black stuff get on you. Trust me... if it taints your blood, it's not going to be good." A haunted look passes over her face as she says that.
Once up the stairs, she summons her mage hand again and lets it work the other pump, seeing how panicked the halfling had become. "Hey, hey, slow down there! Well, maybe not with the pumping. You need to tell us what's going on so we can help you. In case you didn't notice, your employers just tried to off you and your friend Maas. They didn't succeed, but one of them got away. The faster you talk the better of a chance we have at saving you guys. Start by telling us who's down there and what they told you they were doing."
"Bloth! He's down below! The pumps send hot air down so they can breathe and keep from freezing. We need to pull him out of there. I don't even know if he's still alive" Blubbering, the halfling took enormous breathes in between words, until he got out the few sentences.
Juppo wailed away as he continued to furiously pump away at the lever.
