((Anearis death save rolls will be applied to his turn.))
Barracks:
Kel hoisted himself over the barricade and down through the thin gap, into the barracks entrance on the other side. He did so with such precision that someone observing him could have sworn the tiefling never even touched the barricade, and lept the thing in a single bound, like some kind of super man. As he landed, he was positioned ready to assist with his pike, should the rotting undead get too close.
As Uthal picks up the unstable and unconscious elf, he turns heel and bolts back the way he came, exiting the stockyard, and back into the alley towards the closed market place. However, as he dashed away, the banshee gave chase, floating through the boxes and crates that Uthal had to avoid. Uthal’s movement are putting distance between them, but not yet enough for the banshee to give up.
((Anearis failed second death save. Uthal’s turn again))
Feeling the elf's life slipping away in his hands Uthal calls out to the goddess and uses the last bit of the stored arcane energy he has from the rest in the tower. "Helbrede."healing wordAs he calls out he continues his headlong dash back to safety. Feeling the elf wake up in his arms he yells to him, "You're faster than I am. Run, run quickly as far as you can."
As Ura leaves the long alleyway, running eastward from the barracks, she comes to an open courtyard. It’s set up as a market place, with wooden stalls position around. One such stall near her though is smashed, and the battered corpse of a gnome lay among the rubble, in a pool of blood. Making her way into the marketplace though, she hears a familiar voice, “Helbrede” and a flash of light on the far side of the courtyard. It is indeed, none other than Uthal, shouting and running towards you.
He lowers Anearis to the ground, as the both paths meet near the southern entrance of this courtyard. It is now for the first time that Ura hears a wailing cry, and from the same alley, Uthal had come from, a tattered semi-transparent vision of an elven woman floats into the marketplace.
Ura initiative: 21
Barracks:
Successfully scrambling over the barricade, Ander too makes it safely inside the Northern Barracks. It’s dark inside, and quiet, as he enters past Kel. As soon as he does, the door slams and he and Kel are together separated from the outside world, and rest of their party.
Behind the door, stood a young human male, holding the only light source in the room. “Took you long enough. Come this way.” The boy walked across the room to a door leading further in.
Kel let out a small sigh and then composed himself. He turned to follow the human to the door. "Are there others here, or just you?" he asked. His hands found their way to his weapons gripping the greatsword he had slung. Whether it was the initial greeting, lack of true rest, or the undead, Kel was on edge. "We have questions the Arbitrator needs answered."
Regaining consciousness in the arms of the half-giant, Anearis had little time to figure out what was happening. He noticed the ghostly figure of the banshee and new they were outmatched. The only option was to run. Anearis bolted after Uthal and eventually passed him thanks to his speed. Those paying close attention would notice that gusts of wind form behind Anearis, propelling him further forward.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ura windmills her arms, screeching to a stop as Anaeris blows by her, raising clouds of dust as he does so. What the hell?"That idiot's gonna run right into the zombie ho----" Her angry yell trails off as she sees the ghostly elven figure rising up behind Uthal. "---ooly crap!"she finishes, taking a few steps backwards. Looking at Uthal thundering towards her, she shouts "We gotta find another way into the barracks - zombie attack!" Turning on her heel, she grits her teeth and races after Anaeris, wondering if she really just should've stayed with the two beefy warriors instead of adding this angry ghost-grief to her day, while trying to determine if there are any doors or windows on the buildings they're passing by.
Movement: run 30 feet back the way she came Bonus action: dash another 30 feet (into the alley again?) Action: Perception for potential entrances (doors, low windows) to any of the buildings she's passing, in particular those that might offer alternative access to the barracks courtyard, upper windows, or the city walls: 11
The boy furrowed his brow at the two, as he held the door, and responded with a harsh whisper. “Certainly, but please come in before we speak any further. Sound and light attack the them. Please, it’ll be safe on here.” The boy held the door for Kel and Ander to pass through, closing this door behind them as well.
The next room was an office of sort. It had a large desk in the center, and two smaller ones abutted the far wall. Several chairs and benches sat about, with some small tables. On the large desk, there was a large city map with lines and shapes drawn about it. Several sconces around the room illuminated it considerably.
The boy walked to the other side of the desk, putting the lamp down on it and extinguished the flame. In the light, Kel and Ander can see him more properly. Approximately the age of late teens, he had brown awkwardly cut, short hair, and fair skin. He wore a plain looking shirt and pants beneath a loose tunic that identified him as belonging to the northern guard. The tunic bore the same color scheme and insignia that Ander and his party saw of the northern guard, upon entering the city.
”I will answer the questions as best I can, but I’m currently the only one here. Other than the Sergeant, but he’s upstairs, recovering.”
Kel tried to hide the astonished look on his face. True, the city was under considerable attack by the undead but he had seen a patrol of the Watch before entering the Spire. For them to empty the barracks of all hands save one boy struck him as completely odd. The events must be extremely dire for the building to be left as unsecured as it was. Kel took a brief glance at the map before news of the Sergeant really hit him. ...first things first... He swallowed his nagging doubts and asked the boy quietly. "There are others soon to arrive...is there a ladder or rope they can use so we don't have to draw attention to the barricade at the door?"
Uthal just continues his charge after the others, glad to see that Anaeris is up and running so quickly. He glances over his shoulder as he runs to see what's happening.

Barracks Exterior: As the party of three run, they gain more ground distancing themselves from the banshee. She takes the most direct route to catch them, but as they leave the marketplace, floating through the numerous stalls seems to prohibit her from moving as quickly.
As Ura thought ahead to their potential escape routes, there were three doors that possibly led to the courtyard behind the barracks. One she saw when she approached an alley way, when the party heard that initial yell on the way to the barracks; the second, she passed on her way to retrieve Uthal and Anearis. Neither necessarily held more promise than the other. The final door was to the door just south of the barracks, though it wasn’t exactly an option, as that was where the large cropping of undead had been swarming about.
The north building that sat against the Barracks was also only a single story building, but raised higher than the building south of the Barracks. From the exterior the south building would have an easier climb to the roof itself, but the north building would be an easier climb from the roof into a window of the barracks second floor.
No light emitted from any of the barracks windows, though as far as Ura could tell, from those she saw on the barracks East wall, the only opened windows happened to be on the third floor.
“No ladders, that I’m aware of, but many of the windows don’t actually open. The barracks is built to be a fortified shelter in case of emergencies. A few of the third floor ones might. And if they could climb to the parapet or get into the courtyard, there are doors there as well.” The boy pointed to spots around the barracks, on the map on the desk, but it provided no actual new information to what your party already knew simply through observation and having seen the Arbitrator’s map previously.
”Once they arrive, you’ll be mounting the attack back out there, then? You send the Arbitrator sent you to deal with the threat, right?” The boy looked up at Kel and Ander wide-eyed, with the distinct impression that his question was already something he wholeheartedly believed was the truth.
Kel nodded, at the very least the boy was quick to answer. "The courtyard, does it have access to the wall around it or can access be gained from inside? It would benefit us and the others if we could see them to better direct them away from danger." He continued. "Have you a storehouse? Some decent length of rope or even tied cloth would also provide a faster regroup. Ser Anders and I could anchor them as they climbed over the wall." Finally he brought up the matter that had put a thorn in his side. "Then there is your Sergeant, recovering from what? An attack by the undead? We should lay eyes on him to be sure he did not get an infection." he gave a glance to Anders. "We have already saved one from succumbing to a gruesome fate in the night."
He held up a hand to forestall answers for a moment. "I am aware I am asking a lot shortly, but once we can reconvene we will see about dealing with the threat."
Ura hisses at Anaeris, trying to be loud enough to catch his attention before he runs too far, but not so loud that she becomes a sound beacon for the gathering zombies. "Slow down! There might be hell behind us but there's a lake of fire ahead, too!" She stops before the door she passed in the alleyway and tries to open it, hoping that Uthal and Anaeris will gather around. "If I can't get this thing open, we might have to try the door on the other side of the alley. If the she-ghost comes towards us trying for vengeance, I suggest you try to dodge around her and get away. I don't think fighting her is a great idea out in the open like this."
(reserved for potential door rolls. Hey you never know, it might be unlocked!)
Upon trying the handle of door number 2, Ura finds the door handle to be unlocked, but as it opens, it stops short, only a few inches from being closed. At about eye level, there is a small chain from the wall that goes somewhere to the back of the door, preventing it from opening any further.
Having lost sight of the banshee, the party manages to quickly make their way to Door 2 ((on map)), without providing any evidence as to the path they made for their escape. Well, other than a brute show of strength Uthal displayed against a door.
As he pulled, the chain was stronger than Uthal probably anticipated, and the door weaker. The door swung open, as the wood splintered around where the chain was secured to it, and separated a wooden chunk from the door itself. An approximately 2in by 4in piece of the wood dangled from the end of the chain, still in Uthal’s hand.
The room that the door opened to was large, in fact, that entire building was only a single room. There were no lights, not that these party members needed any.
The room was filled with stacks of crates, from what the party could tell without further investigation. Many of the objects were covered in sheets or tarps, some loosely thrown, others tied around the objects with rope. Through the stacks, one other notable feature was a door on the south side of the building, just past a group of covered objects that looked suspicious like people, standing very still, draped in these sheets.
Successfully attempting to keep up with the bombardment or questioning at first, the boy in the barracks was beginning to unravel and Kel persisted, almost unsure of what questions were even being asked. “Uh..yes. Yes. Maybe. Blue. 42?“ ((Hut. Hut. Hike.)) A look of worry swept over the boy’s face as if his greatest fears were coming to fruition. Like the cliche nightmare of standing in front of ones class, while having forgotten to wear pants.
Finally as though completely losing himself, was the only way to regain composure, he blurted out. “There’s a storehouse in the courtyard!” He arm shot up and stiffened pointing towards the door at the room’s eastern wall.
Catching his breath after their escape, Anearis turned to his companions to insure everyone had made it.
"I believe we lost it. Hanneldë, Ura. We would not have made it without you." He then turns to Uthal. "Hanneldë as well, friend. I live thanks to you."
He gives them both a bow.
