The staff was white, kind of raw and twisted, but enough to serve its purpose. Austin found nothing further as she shuffled through the dust and ash at the bottom of the sarcophagus.
"Well these are definitely magic, and even seem to be magically linked to each other in some way. I'd need to spend some time with these and any of the other oddities we find if we're concerned about magical effects and whatnot. However if suggest we move on, I feel we may have already lingered too long, and I would very much like my stuff returned to me." Virgil stands and makes his way towards the door. "Unless we're planning on making a homestead next to the well of decay."
The same bloodcurdling wail, that sounded when the kids to the crypts were moved, cut through the air again. However, it was not due to the final lid being removed, as every member of the party was accounted for. This time the wail came from somewhere off in the distance, down the corridor tunnel.
They were soon followed by more earthly screams of terror that were soon after cut short.
And there was silence from the tunnel, once more.
Shortly thereafter, while looking down through the tunnel entrance, Nik chimed up. “We gon’ open the last one? I’m still for it.”
Viilgahan stepped out of the crypt, muttering nothings quietly. He glanced at the others in the large room briefly before glancing at the staff that the human Austin took up. He watched her carry on into the second crypt before he began moving towards the last one. His clawed hand scratched the base of his right horn before clenching into a fist.
Then the scream hit.
He paused, moving to join the dwarf peering into the tunnel entrance. He cast a look himself before turning back to the last room. "Yes master dwarf, I think we should have one last look before the screaming starts again..."
"Just as well open the other one." Austin agrees. She moves to the last lid and uses her crowbar to open it... She hears the latest scream as she does so, but ignores it, deciding to just get this done.
Ura grows increasingly uncomfortable as she waits for everyone to stop milling about in the crypt room, trying to draw every living or undead thing in the dungeon to them in a dead end.
"Are we leaving or what?"she hisses at the others, sticking her head back into the room. "Those screams seem to be handily taking care of whatever living cultists might be down here, but they're also probably going to be happy to munch on us next when they run out of cultists. I just want to find D'Armes and get the hell out of this place! I can't believe I'm saying this, but grab your treasure and haul some ass, we have more important things to do down here!"
"Make haste! Else those crypts be your final resting place! Ura, hug your shadows and scout ahead but not so far you lose sight of us. Be ready and able to retreat to the main group at all times. The knight and wood elf should take point, followed by Austin, who is going to hand me her torch since I'm weaponless. I'll keep center with Viilgahan and provide support in either direction. Uthal will bring up the rear with the unconscious Dwarf and with Nik to defend them should we get attacked from behind. Does everyone understand?"Virgil, as if remembering who he is, lowers the intensity of his demeanor and returns to his decadent self. "Come come, the fates are not known for their patience."
As the others appear ready to go, Austin shrugs and moves out with them, leaving the lid in place. "We did not check that last cell." She informs the others, gripping both of her staffs. "Do we want to wait for me to do so, or are we leaving?" She will leave if the group is heading that way.
“If there’s nothing more we can get from that,” Ander said pointing at the robed figure on the ground. “Then I suggest we push forward. We’ve wasted too much time already.” His voice was somewhat passive aggressive, but as he had always been one for little words,, the other party members had little to go on, to be certain.
He lit a torch, taking a proactive approach to what the rest of the party had only been discussing. Pushing past those who began towards the doorway, Ander stepped out into the tunnel.
Anearis followed the group as they were heading out. He walked alongside Ander, as Virgil had suggested. As the group progressed, he kept his eyes and ears pealed for any threat. Especially the screaming kind of threat.
Ander kept a quick steady pace, with Anearis beside him. Due to the advantage of darkvision, Anearis happened to spot it first, before the light of Ander’s torch made it there, but after walking through the tunnel corridor, past the southbound tunnel with the open double doors and sword in the stone, and just a few feet shy of the northern tunnel, Anearis spied another of the robed figures. This one however, was sprawled face down on the floor.
It was until they got closer that it became apparent that Anearis was only half right. The thing sprawled on the floor, was approximately half of a robed figure. It appeared to be missing legs, and potentially everything else below the torso.
Ura follows along, sticking far away enough from everyone to stay hidden as she moves down the corridor. She takes a glance at the fallen figure, trying to see if it was another chimeric experiment of a human, even if there was significantly less to study than on the other victim.

Ura investigation: 9
The blood stained robe covered the body itself. Ura had to peel the cloth off the battered corpse, to see it. The lower half of the body was missing, and a black liquid had spilled from it.
Even through the mangled and hacked body, Ura could tell that like the other, this cultist too had signs of body parts not having been his/her original.
Austin had to admit the ability to see in darkness was quite nice. She moved along with the others, standing back as they found another robed figure. She waited for others to check it out as they paused.

Hurriedly attempting to open the final crypt and move on, Austin’s crowbar fails to acquire the proper leverage, and the lid fails to move.
As the others appear ready to go, Austin shrugs and moves out with them, leaving the lid in place. "We did not check that last cell." She informs the others, gripping both of her staffs. "Do we want to wait for me to do so, or are we leaving?" She will leave if the group is heading that way.
"Seems like we are ready to leave and charge headlong at screaming death, should be a good time."

"Very well." She looks around. "Can someone help me with that ability to see in the dark again, or is it something you can only do a few times?"
Uthal reaches out as Austin passes by. "Last time, unless we finally take a rest."
