“We’ll have to find his other half. This part does not seem to have pockets.” Ander continued on, nearly stepping on the corpse as he moved to the corner and shown his light to the northern tunnel, and then to the way forward (west). In a lower volume but still same tone, “Which way now?”
Anearis nods in agreement. "West sounds as good a direction as any." He took a final glance at the mangled corpse of the cultist, trying to identify what could have ripped it in half like that.

Anearis medicine: 4
As best as Anearis could tell, the cultist severed the two halves of his own body, himself. Or perhaps it was just a trick on the eyes, and the cultist was actually whole.
As the party went further west, a noticeable trail of the same black blood on the cultist half, appeared to be originating from that direction.
Another 50 feet from where the north tunnel connected towards the current corridor, the westward tunnel ended, and another makeshift wooden wall and door sat against the dead up, on the southern wall. The door was cracked open, and a faint light flickered on the other side.
Viilgahan had moved into the group but remained silent, other things were on his mind. He ignored the bodies as he passed them and kept his eyes looking around, taking note of people around him in case he had to start slinging spells. A flick of magic danced between his hands, his lantern becoming brighter once more in the halls.
Virgil chuckles to himself and says under his breath "I suppose I'll have to purchase Balthazar's Compendium of Crypt and Cave Crawling when we get back to civilization." Virgil considers what he just said.
Would they even have that on this continent? I really need to find a book shop or library soon, this land may have it's own unique form of story telling, poetry, lyricism. Not to mention the wealth of useful information it would have regarding this completely foreign landscape. I can't believe I forgot one of Master Keats's famous lessons. "If you spend more of your time in a book than a brothel, you be more likely to avoid something awful." I bet he'd get a laugh out of this.
The thought of his old mentor puts Virgil more at ease. He looks the most at peace since he woke up in this dark place.
Austin has the new staff attached to her pack now, and has her normal staff in-hand. She waits for someone to check out the new door, wanting to slow down on her own recless actions of late.
"Ura, it doesn't look it but check the door for traps. If it's clear, Austin get in position to open it as quietly as possible and Ura take position to shoot what's on the other side if necessary."Virgil whispers after waiting at the door for a few seconds.
"Hey! I do what I want!"Ura protests in a hiss, though she does check the door for traps anyway.
Investigation for traps: 11
Perception for listening on the other side: 16
Once she's completed her assessment, Ura backs away and stands ready with her bow to shoot anything hostile -- from the shadows, of course. She keeps her mage hand at the ready, just in case, though she does prop the torch a ways back against the wall so it won't give away the group's position.
Ura finds no evidence of traps set about the door or frame. The trail of black blood ends just inside the room, near a pair of legs, likely the other half of the partial cultist. The door itself is cracked open approximately 1 foot or so, through which Ura can see a bed and chest against a wall, however, the rest of the room is still a mystery, including the light source within the room.
The door, while slightly ajar, has resistance from an unseen physical object on its other side, preventing it from having likely swing open further.
"I think I see a chest that might have Virgil's stuff in it,"Ura whispers. "But I also found those pockets you were looking for,"she says with a grimace to Ander. "There's a bed in there too, and it's lit, but something's blocking the door."
As she says this, she looks at Uthal. "Uh... want to try pushing with me?" (Ura will give Uthal the help action if he wants to do his thing to this door)
Not knowing the source of the resistance easy led Uthal to overestimate the effort needed to open the door. He nearly knocked it off its hinges, as he slammed it open, and sending the physical object flying across the room. It had been another robed cultist corpse.
It was one of three...it was one of two and a half corpses in the room. The lower half being right next to the door, one slumped against the wall between the two beds in the room, and the third (previously against the door) now in the middle of the room, entrails leaking out, and a fresh splatter of blood now sprayed around it.
The room was approximately 40 feet by 40 feet, the door having been in the Northeast corner. Other than the bodies, the room there were two large barrels in the southeast corner, a table in the southwest corner, and two beds midway against the eastern wall. On the table were two lit lanterns and a chest about 2 feet by 1 foot by 1 foot. And in the northwest corner a trunk, easily big enough to fit a body, or two. (The chest that Ura saw)
Austin moved to the door. Seeing the bodies she would step inside, glancing around for any sigh of what did this. As half of the one body was down the hall, she assumes the danger is past, but still checks around, including looking up at the ceiling.
There is no sign of anyone or anything else in the room, and without closer inspection of the bodies themselves, no indication of what could have caused the carnage.

Having been otherwise occupied in his attention previously, Viilgahan will approach the recently redisturbed corpse that Uthal moved with his entrance and begin an inspection of it. His lantern clattered a bit on the ground as he knelt upon one knee, taking a moment to right the object so it wasn't spilling oil. Satisfied he wasn't going to ignite himself on fire, or the corpse, he began to look through the belongings and the potential lingering echo of the arcane.
He glanced to one side, as if someone was saying something to him, then rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath something in Draconic.

"I'm curious to see if there dagger and runner stones are also carried by this one. Anything tucked away in his pockets?"

"The right way."
"Shall we continue West?" Austin asks as she looks to the two tunnels.
Anearis nods in agreement. "West sounds as good a direction as any." He took a final glance at the mangled corpse of the cultist, trying to identify what could have ripped it in half like that.
