(Chotec tries to give the man a drink as the rest of the group, and really, the rest of the Tavern patrons, crowd around the injured man, except Ilyandra and Spry, who hang back a bit. After a few moments, Ilyandra does get closer to try to investigate the man's wounds. (OOC: I'll give you a 10 roll just to move the exposition along, but normally you'd roll.) He's got some long gashes on his arms and chest that look like they were made with blades, as well as his knotted up face full of swelling and bruises. Many of the group ask the man questions almost at the same time, but he is too out of sorts to acknowledge them.)
"Rickard! What's happened?"
(Willfred rushes to the side of the fallen man, who is still very distraught. His injuries, though numerous, do not seem to be the main source of his despair. He tries to compose himself, trying to answer in between sobs.)
"Gob... goblins. They broke into my workshop. I-I-I tried to stop them... I think I even killed one of them. But there were too many. They stabbed at me and beat me with clubs and... when I woke up my daughter was... gone!"
(Rickard quietly sobs as the crowd murmurs their disbelief. WIllfred starts explaining things to the party, who is gathered around.)
"Rickard is the Blacksmith here. And Bess, sweet little Bess is his 8 year-old daughter. She means the world to him. All he has ever since his wife passed a few years ago."
(A look of sudden realization appears on Willfred's face, a smile on his lips.)
"Rickard, my friend, don't despair! Look here! These here fine folks (he points towards the party) are skilled adventurers!"
“You-you’re adventurers? Please, you’ve got to help me! If I lost my Bess, I… I… I can pay you! I don’t have much, but I would give all the gold I have in the world if you can get my daughter back to me safely. Will you help me? Please, I beg you!”
(Rickard throws himself, both figuratively and literally, at the feet of the party, begging for help. The party begins to talk amongst themselves.)
DMs note: I hope I can ask a favor from you guys. Can you please go into your signature and add your character like I have to the bottom of your posts? It's under Profile, Edit Profile, and there's a spot there for Signature. It would help me remember who's who faster. Thanks a lot.
Chotec's face turns serious and he starts asking questions to Rickard about his encounter:" How many goblins were there? Which way were they taking her? Are there any goblin camps that way? We can talk about the reward later so hurry and tell us about information we can use to save your daughter."
Out of character: do you mean to just write our char names there or put our character info itself there?
Sly Hand steps forward, puffing out his chest and assuming a convincingly heroic stance.
(Some villagers mumble approvingly)
"Adventurers we are, Ricky my good man, a lucky break for you I'll say. Now if we're going to chase down these fiends and rescue your daughter, buddy, maybe you could kit us out with some steel before we go? You wouldn't want us to arrive at the party if we ain't dressed to impress. It might not work out well for us, or your daughter."
"They say you're the finest smith for miles around." Sly Hand adds, hoping to seal a quick deal for the group.
Chotec sends a mild disapproving gaze at the rogue's words but listening to the details of the incident is more important than nitpicking about Spry Hand's borderline blackmail so he decides to let it be.
The minute the young girl is mentioned Ilyandra perks up, listening closely with her face set into a frown. She looks to Willfred. “Is there a goblin camp nearby?” she asks
(Rickard, still disoriented, is distracted by the barrage of questions from the party. When it becomes clear that the party is willing to help, a smile appears for the first time.)
"Thank you! Bless you all!"
(The grateful Blacksmith goes around thanking the adventurers, alternately hugging and enthusiastically shaking the hands of the brave party who has agreed to help him. He thinks for a moment before speaking.)
"Well, I don't know where you heard I was a great Blacksmith. Truth be told, I'm the only blacksmith within two days ride from here, and I mostly do plows and tools, not armor and swords. I mean, I may try when you return, but..."
(Wilfred chimes in, looking at Spry.)
"I don't quite think there's time, my friend. Rickard is a man of his word, though, and if he says you will be fairly rewarded I can assure you that you and your friends will be taken care of."
(Rickard tries to answer some of Chotec's questions.)
"I don't really know how long ago it was, probably not long, but I don't know how long I was unconscious. As far as where they could have taken her... I haven't got a clue. I mean, I didn't even know there were goblins in these parts. I'm pretty sure there's a dead goblin in my workshop, maybe we can figure out where they went if we go back there?"
(He looks at you all expectantly. Willfred chimes in.)
"Nothing like this has happened around here for a long time. Last I can remember was maybe, 20, 25 years ago? Even then, I think it was more of Goblins attacking travelers up the road, not kidnapping little girls. There hasn't been any Goblin sightings around here since, that I can recall."
DM's note: If you'd like to do anything before heading to Rickard's shop go ahead and RP, otherwise I'll just assume you all follow him there.
"Hmm then it's better if we go to your workshop and investigate." Chotec starts "But first does this town have any place to buy potions that we could use as we are lacking a healer. We might need some if there are lots of goblins. Also might i know how much a one would cost around here?" He continues
"I'm sorry, this is a very small town full of simple farmers. We don't really have anything like that around."
(The party follows Rickard to his workshop on the North edge of town. The signs of a struggle are everywhere: Broken pots litter the floor, splintered chairs and tables, etc. A goblin lays dead on the floor, a poker thus his chest. The layout of his workshop is roughly as shown:
"Well, here it is. I haven't really had a chance to look things over, I went for help as soon as I came to."
Spoiler for Shy ONLY:
Shy your Ranger experience kicks in and you are automatically drawn to the tracks the goblins left. Using your Tracking skills (you automatically succeed) you are able to perceive that there were about 7 sets of tracks. 6 appear to be Goblin tracks, and 1 seems to be from a small human. The tracks seem to be going to a fence on the far northeast side of the property.
DM's Note: You are free to look around. A little note about Spoilers: When you get a spoiler, keep in mind that this is information only you know. It's up to you to convey that information to the rest of your party. If you don't tell them, they don't know.
Also, remember, if you're going to roll, the difference between Perception (I look and see...) and Investigation (I see and deduce...). You have to be specific about what you're looking at when you make an Investigation roll. You can't just say, "I Investigate the room." You have to say, for example, "I Investigate the Workbench." When you roll, make sure to add your modifiers. Look at your Character Sheet under Skills and add the number to your roll.
Sorry for the crappy Paint drawing, it's not to scale or anything, it's just meant to give you all a rough idea of how everything is set up. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I want to make sure stuff is clear for you guys.
(Sorry for not being around! My notifications weren't working for some reason. Also I'm proficient in investigation but idk if that means anything)
Ilyandra follows, looking deep in thought. She spins her staff in her hand as she walks, stopping only when they reach the shop. She crotches down next to Spry, looking at the corpse. (Investigation: d20: 7 +3 = 10)
DMs note: Ilyandra, next time please use the In-Game Dice Roller (the little dice symbol on the top right corner when you reply) I'll take the 10 for now.
(Chotec looks at the tracks on the ground, loses his train of thought, and just stares at one of the tracks for a full minute before snapping out of it. :)
Shy does an excellent job of tracking, following all the way to the edge of the forest and then coming back to his new friends. Those Goblins aren't going to be able to shake a master tracker like him.
Spry loots the Goblin corpse. He's wearing dirty, ratty leather armor, a rusty dagger tucked in his belt,10 copper pieces and a few buttons and rocks in his pouch.
Ilyandra takes a closer look at the corpse. He seems to have been young. The blacksmith tool seems to have caught him right in his little goblin heart, so you're pretty sure he died instantly. She confirms that Rickard killed him.)
"Wh-why, I suppose I did. It all happened so fast, I mean... I must have just grabbed whatever was handy and got lucky."
I look around the house for any clues or anything useful 8 (inluding the stables)
after that i speak: "We should start tracking the goblins before it's too late. About positions while walking maybe Mr. Shy should walk with me on the front to help me track, Mr.spry would be in the middle and Mrs. Ilyandra would be at the back. Would that be alright with you all? Mr. Rickard should stay here and rest. I promise we will bring your daughter back to you."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ilyandra straightens up, one hand on her hip. (Insight check on Rickard 5)
She walks over to where Chotec is, nodding. "I'm sure the quicker we get there the better," she says, trying not to think about what could happen to the little girl if they were too late. She makes no protests with the fighter's plans except to add "Miss" with a bit of a wrinkled nose. Mrs makes her sound too old.
DMs note: Chotec, you have to specify what you're looking at, you can't just say 'the house'. But I'll give it to you at a -2 penalty, since you're trying to search such a large area you're unable to be thorough.
(Chotec looks over the living quarters. There aren't really any signs of a struggle, suggesting Bess was taken without much of a fight, perhaps caught taking a nap. He also goes to look at the stable, but finds that it is empty and looks like there hasn't been a horse in there for quite a while.
Ilyandra looks over Rickard, trying to ascertain... something. All she can tell is that the Blacksmith is in a bit of a state of shock and looks like he might have another breakdown if he doesn't get his daughter back soon.
After a few moments, something seems to occur to Rickard and he rushes to the living quarters and returns with some items, putting them into Shy's hands.)
"I hope this helps you all. Please, maybe you can catch up to them!"
(Shy looks at the items: a first aid kit with 2 charges, and a half a potion of healing.)
Info on First Aid Kit:
If you use a charge on an unconscious party member, they will stabilize and return with 1 HP.
(OOC: This is a homebrew thing, not an official item.)
DM's Note: If you all want to do anything else let me know, otherwise I'll assume you all want to follow the tracks.
