OCC for Lander: Great question! You are correct. The Medicine Skill is used to make a Medicine Check. A Medicine Check can be used for a number of different things. The DM might have you make a Medicine Check if you are trying to stabilize a dying person, determine what effect an unmarked vial of medicine might have on someone, diagnose an illness or injury, or something else Medicine related. Throughout this adventure I will ask you to make certain Skill Checks. To do that, you simply refer to the Skills section of your Character Sheet and find the relevant Skill. Next to the Skill name is a box that lists the Modifier for that Skill. A Modifier is what you will add or subtract from the result of your roll when you make the Skill Check. Here is an example:
You are attempting to convince a Town Guardsmen to let your rowdy friend off the hook. I may ask you to make a CHA (Persuasion) check to see if you're successful or not. After referring to the Skills section of your Character Sheet, I see that you have a +0Modifier for Persuasion. +0 Isn't a bad thing! It's common for low level characters to have low or even negative Modifiers. Now you will roll 1 d20 to see how you do. You won't add anything to the result since your Modifier is +0. For the sake of this example, I will roll for you below. Normally you would roll yourself for any checks you are making.
Persuasion Check to see if you're able to get your friend off the hook: 1
Did this help clear up the mystery behind skills and skill checks? I know this is a lot of information to take in when you're learning the game, so don't be afraid to ask for clarification! That's the point of this adventure.
OOC for All: Nighty night folks, I'm off to bed. Back to work tomorrow, but I'll try to respond to your posts by noon-ish (Central Time) tomorrow. Cheers!
Fedex grins with the left side of his mouth and squeezes Leona's hand. He draws the chair and sits opposite of her, then a full smile crosses his face. For a moment, he sees some features in Leona's face that remind him of his third oldest sister, Gwen. Then his smile fades as he curses internally that in his family of such beauty and strength, that he should be so deprived.
He immediately snaps out of this mental trap, one that each year seems to get easier escape.
"So, what's a fair maiden, like you, doing in a place like this?"
The full smile returns to his face for uttering such ridiculous line.

Riona jumps a bit as she finally notices the Goliath, amidst all the commotion she thought the first time he was addressing someone else.
"Oh I'm sorry dear I'm afraid I don't work here. Though the ale is rather good I'm not sure its stiff enough considering your stature." She motions to larger form of the goliath man, moving her outstretched hands up and down seemingly pointing out his size.
She notices the all too familiar look of a man in turmoil, further inspecting the stranger in front of her, doing her best to read the intentions of the golaith.

**OOC Not too sure how ya'll wanna handle trying to figure out what other player characters are thinking or feeling **
OOC: Sorry guys but there has been a power outage where I am, my phone is not exactly the type to hold a charge and I am currently using data. Sorry :( this was my first campaign
Lander looks up from his book and cracks a grin as he watches Riona deftly handle the large Goliath and avoid a confrontation. He thinks, "That one can certainly take care of herself." He fixes his glasses and goes back to reading his book and sipping his leftover ale.
(OOC- Yes, your explanations made perfect sense about different ability checks. Thanks.)
Fedex: Leona laughs and says "Fair maiden? Chivalry isn't dead! Well, Sir Fedex... *wink* I'm normally with my husband when I come here, but he's out of town on business. Normally, Hill's Edge is the type of place a woman can walk herself home at night, but with the recent influx of refugees from Eltruel... I don't know any more." She has a far away look on her face, then suddenly says "I.. I don't mean to sound racist! I know most of the refugees are honest people running for their lives, leaving the only homes they've ever known... It's just... Some less scrupulous folk are taking advantage of the situation." She steals a small look over your shoulder at the half-orc at the bar. "Well, what about you Sir Fedex? What brings you to Hill's Edge?"
OOC for Riona: Players can tell each other their intent or what's on their mind freely if they'd like. If Keragri wanted to keep his thoughts/feelings mysterious, he could make a Deception Check to attempt to mask his emotions/intent. You would then make an Insight Check like you did. If your roll is higher, he tells you his feelings/thoughts. It doesn't have to be explicitly detailed, something like "You get the feeling Keragri is trying to bury painful memories with drink and revelry." If his roll is higher he could lie about it or choose remain unreadable.
Also, it looks like there is a space after the "1d20+1" portion of the roll you typed in you last post. If you edit the post and delete that space, the roll should go through.
OOC for Keragri: Are you saying that you're unable to continue as part of our adventure? If so, that's ok. I just want to be sure I understand what you meant so I can find another player if need be.
Lander: The barmaid still seems a bit on edge after the incident with the drunk. She nervously wrings her apron in her hand and says "Absolutely Sir, anything you need you let us know! I understand your tab is on the house tonight and deservedly so." She fidgets a bit, seemingly unsure what to say, then "Thank you... I'm normally not so easily shaken up, but gods there was so much blood! And I just stood there... frozen in place, wailing like some helpless babe... She turns to leave "Listen to me, blabbing while you wait for your food. I'll have that sheppard's pie out shortly."
OOC: I had a reason for suspicion due to a heavy storm night. I used my mobile data to check the outage report and saw that power might come back in a day, earlier I was just woken up by a very loud thunder strike, so I did not have high hopes. Plus no power meant no charging my phone so I had to eventually turn it off. Then the power came back in like 4 hours :P
**
"Fine then..." I grumble. I search the room once more. My eyes land onto this woman in an apron. Surely this is someone who can fetch me drink. "You there, Apron One! The one speaking with the Halfling! The Fetch me your strongest ale!" I grow tired of this yelling. I need to find this Shadow Guild contact anyway
After avoiding the further attention of the larger man Riona finally makes her way over to the gambling tables, trying her best to look nonchalant but suppressing a fair amount of excitement.
"Any of you folk mind humoring and old soldier with a game or two? I have some coin I'm willing to part with.. or double"
She cocks an eyebrow and her lips pull up on one side of her face giving her a mischief appearance.
Riona: You see a number of different games being played among the gambling tables. At a table near the door, dice are being rolled around a pot of money that grows larger each round. At another table, players try to appear nonchalant behind their hands of cards, eyeing each other with suspicion. The third table is the most lively. A lean, muscular Elven woman sits across from a burly Dwarf. The woman takes a swig from an open bottle of rum then places her left hand, palm down on the table, fingers spread wide. She then quickly stabs a dagger into the table between each of her fingers and back again. She finishes, then passes the bottle and dagger to the man across from her and he takes his turn. He takes a mighty swig and begins stabbing the dagger between his fingers much faster than you'd expect. Suddenly, with a grunt, the man lodges the dagger into the tip of his smallest finger. The nail is sliced clean off. The man pours a bit of rum from the bottle onto his finger, takes another swig, then tosses coins onto the table in front of the Elven woman. The Dwarven man leaves his seat and wanders off. The Elven woman counts the coins and places them in a pouch on her hip. There are now open seats at each of the tables; dice, cards, and five-finger-filet.
OOC: Once you decide which game you'd like to play I'll have the players at that table respond to your question.
Keragri: The barmaid looks over to you and calls out "I'll be over to help you in a minute sir! If you need drink right away, try asking the barkeep!" before turning her attention back to the halfling. Before you can make your way to the bar however, a Dwarven man approaches you and says "Hail friend! My name is Khubic. I find myself in need of capable adventurers if you're looking for work. Can I buy you a drink and discuss the terms at my table?"
"I am a bit of a wanderer of late. Escaping the overshadowing of my family and making a mark in the world are my current motivations. This town looks to be as good a place as any to start. With the influx of refugees here, I hope to find some like-minded individuals who are seeking adventure."
Fedex adjusts himself in the seat, confirming that his rapier and hand crossbow are not bound in a way that would make a quick draw impossible. During the shifting, he also tries to nonchalantly crane his neck towards the bar to locate and identify the half-orc of concern.
He then refocuses on Leona and the tempo of the music.
"Did you mention a dance?" He says as the smile retakes his face.
Fedex:"Interesting, maybe later you can tell me more about your family, if you want?" Says Leona. Then, at the mention of a dance she stands excitedly and takes your arm. "I did! Let's show these local yokels a thing or two Sir Fedex!" and she leads you to the dance floor. You don't see much of the half-orc as you adjust your equipment, but you do make sure to get a good look at him as you head to the dance floor. He's sitting at the bar with his back to the bar facing the room. He wears dark brown leather armor and a black cloak. He looks to be older, perhaps in his mid 50's but he is still an imposing sight and looks nonetheless dangerous despite his age. That's about all you can perceive at a glance. If you'd like, you can make a Perception Check to see if you'e able to notice any other details. The band is playing a local favorite and many people are dancing merrily on the dance floor. Leona twirls and curtsies before taking your hands and allowing you to lead the dance. Please make a Performance Check to see how well you do!
Lander looks at the barmaid with a slightly sad expression. "No no no no no dearie, do not apologize to me. I was as nervous as you were when I saw him fall that hard. Heck, I'm still shaken up. I'm just glad it sounds like he should be ok. "
He reaches into his coin pouch and pulls out 2 silver pieces, palming them before handing them to the flustered barmaid. " Thanks for such prompt service and for talking to me a bit. This is for you. Oh, and I can't wait to try the sheppard's pie. From the looks of the plate you brought to the gentleman over there, it looks exquisite. " Lander motions over to another patron eating at a table and laughs.

”Ad-Adventurer?...”That word brings Me back to the night everything went to flames, quite literally, and was frozen for just a second. *cue Batman flashbacks* After staring for only a second however, he did here adventure. More often than not, these small (not to be racist but I have about 7ft over a dwarf) adventures led me closer to the Estors family. I follow the dwarf to his table and sit with him. On the way I take a look at his person to notice any valuables or a few hefty looking pockets...
Perception Check: 8
OOC: What do I find?
**
Even all this noise can still give me my Thieve’s eyes. I sit at the table with the dwarf and he seems to break his neck trying to stare me in the eye as we converse
Lander: The barmaid takes the coins you offered and leans in to give you a quick hug "You're a light of hope in uncertain times kind sir, thank you." She then heads back toward the kitchen to fetch your food, stopping to banter with regular patrons along the way. You begin reading your book again and after a few seconds, you hear a man's voice "Pardon the interruption sir.." you look up to see a Dwarven man standing next to your table. He appears to be in his early thirties, with a bald head and a large, thick, black beard. On the left side of his head is a detailed tattoo of an ornate harp. His clothes are functional and plain but appear to be well crafted. A plain white shirt with the sleeves rolled up revealing hairy forearms and black leather pants tucked into brown boots. "My name is Khubic Bottlebelt. I saw how well you handled that situation with the drunk and I'm impressed. I know with the deluge of refugees in the area, work is scarce. If you're looking for work, I find myself in need of capable hands such as yours. Would you care to join me at my table and discuss the details?"
Fedex: With your 12, you also notice the tell-tale bulge of a boot knife along the man's ankle and a not so subtly hidden hand-crossbow hanging from his hip. Also, you're almost sure you saw the barest hint of a smile form on his mouth as he offered the slightest tip of his drinking glass, as if in salute. Though with the low lighting and hectic atmosphere, you can't be 100% certain. One thing you can be certain of is that your dancing is... entertaining. What you lack in skill, you certainly make up for in enthusiasm. Leona chuckles at the sight of you and continues twirling about. The locals clap, whistle, and cheer you on, even as you step on toes and elbow those around you. A woman sitting at a table nearby shouts to be heard over the band for the benefit of her friend sitting next to her, "Must be some strange Northern dance!" and her friend laughs as she shrugs and shakes her head. You and Leona dance for a few more songs and finally settle into your seats breathless but still laughing. "Well, you certainly know how to show a lady a good time! The town'll be talking about this one 'til next year I bet!" Leona says before gulping down what was left in her glass. As the two of you catch your breath, a Dwarven man approaches your table. "Pardon me folks, the name's Khubic Bottlebelt. I'm looking for help making a delivery by the end of the day tomorrow, know anyone who might be interested in paying work?" he asks, looking to each of you in turn.
Keragri: As you follow the man back to his table, you see that though he is simply dressed, the clothes appear to be of fine quality. You also see a rather full looking coin pouch on his hip. You get the feeling that he is wealthy, though modest in his dress.

Fedex places a couple of fingers on his jugular gauging his heart rate. He takes two large breathes and seems satisfied with the results. He then responds to the inquiry,
"I am currently under contract ..." Fedex turns to face Leona with a smile and a wink from the eye furthest from the dwarf. "... however ..." he turns his head to face Khubic, "... I am looking for something to do after I discharge my duties. Might I join you at your table after I catch my breath?"
It should be quite obvious that Fedex did not need more time as his breathing had almost already returned to normal.
Fedex: Khubic gives a small, knowing smile and says "By all means, do your duty sir!" with a chuckle. He gives Leona an obvious wink and continues "I'll be at a table in the back with a few other potential recruits. Come on over and pull up a chair when your shift ends. Excuse me." He nods to each of you before walking away. Leona watches him go and you see her smile fade from her face as she looks over to the bar. "Huh, it seems my not-so-secret admirer has retired for the evening." Nodding in the direction of the now empty bar stool the half-orc once occupied. She yawns and says "As strange as it sounds, I'm starting to think he's got the right idea." She looks back to you and her smile returns. "Well Sir Fedex? Shall we see your duty done? I'm afraid my cat will begin to miss me should I stay out much longer."
Reposting for Riona: You see a number of different games being played among the gambling tables. At a table near the door, dice are being rolled around a pot of money that grows larger each round.
