@Ithelion and @Lorell - As you near the halfway point of your descent, you notice several dark stains and broken pieces of what can only be carapace. As you near the bottom the rope doesn’t really slow. Please each of you make an Acrobatics OR Athletics check for me.
Group 1
As the last spider shudders it’s life away, you are stunned by the silence. Only the sound of your heavy breathing populates the room. About 30 seconds go by and you hear the hoist getting closer. Your main task at the forefront of your mind you begin to hear tip-taps” - the sound of a dagger on an ale mug. It’s sounds eerily similar to the clicking of something sharp on something equally hard. One thing is for certain - something is coming.......en masse. What do you do ? [group 2 you’re about 10 seconds from landing].
As your companions’ shape begin to focus, your eyes are drawn to the darker stain on the floor, which you on one side know to be blood because Garnet’s torch illuminated the area in colour. As you breach the ceiling of the room, choose which skill to use. Incidentally with your darkvision and perception, you notice the reflective light from the far exit, the light from the Genasi’s torch splashing against eyes - you discern about 20 at least - and they’re coming up from the tunnel and from behind the left-most broken stairways (rocks now).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ithelion tries to time her leap off the rope to avoid the pools of gore and ichor: 16
When she manages to orient herself, she says "Let's find that shield before whatever itnis gets here!"
[[ Can she see anything down the tunnel? ]]
Realusing Elosa is probably better suited to looking down the tunnel, she summons her and says, Tell me what you see down the tunnel, and tell me if its getting near. ]]
If or when they look close, assuming the shield has not been found, Ithelion will cast Burning Hands the moment the first one gets to the room. In the mean time she will search. If the shield is found, then... She will follow the lead of everyone else.
Perception (tunnel then shield): 6
Elosa (tunnel): 14
How many eyes did the spiders have...2, or more.
Can she or Elosa (120' vision, i think) see what's coming and how far they are?
Krom moves to get closer to the walls walking around and looking for the shield with the black and white trees. He also makes sure that the Harper pin is securely fasten in one of his beard braids. "The bugger could have given us a bit more direction for that shield to find."
You dispatch the last arachnids with relative ease; you are alone, for now, in the chamber of shields. Your heavy pants of exertion the only audible tenants in the room. Your eyes wander the hardware. Unfortunately, while your bAsking in history and nostalgia, you see two things simultaneously: the rest of your party coming down the hoist and several spiders - one of them much larger than the rest - flooding out of the tunnel to the North Of you.
Group 2 @ithelion - you land with a flourish, body in control of the fall and timed well.
@lorell - you drop off the rope awkwardly, landing on yourself and taking 3 bludgeoning damage.
Garnet can see the multitude of eyes reflecting from the darkness, they need to find the Harper shield and quickly. She notices Korm searching the wall near him and immediately chooses the opposite. Holding the torch up higher the vast amount of shields that come into view is a little more daunting then expected. The swarm can be heard coming this way, as well as her other two companions.
@krom - you see the shield after a few seconds of scanning the walls. It is on the wall opposite the tunnel, where you hear the multitude of clicks and clacks and hisses coming from. It is a newer, tower shield devoid of any rust or wear. Perhaps it's ceremonial? Looking immediately around it at the other shields and bucklers, it is easily the newest item around.
@daemyar - even with pass without a trace added to your roll, there is simply no cover. You, however, consider yourself to be hidden. @ithelion - sure Elosa can see what is coming and you all can hear it. Elosa comes back to you and starts squawking at you frenetically. Noted your spell is readied for when you see one (remember the spell will affect all creatures in its AoE). @garnet - you scan the wall with your torch but don’t seem to find anything. You hope that someone else has better luck. @lorell - you have no trouble finding them, as they are in the same room as you and you can see them. @krom - as mentioned above, only two of you roll to find the shield and you were lucky enough to find it. Your companions currently do not know that yet.
[[ Unfortunately, I assume that means Ithelion must, in her turn, move in front or to the side of whoever is actually in front, then cast the spell, and ideally, move back...so I'm not sure doing a 'ready spell' works, since I don't think she can move before or after the trigger....it also uses up the spell if she casts it or not, I think. Maybe I misunderstand...the whole ready/reaction stuff is complex! ]]
Elosa and Itelion can see and hear whats coming...can they estimate numbers and size and nature...I assume a number of spiders? I assume she can see something...if not then she links her senses briefly to Elosa, to see further.
Basic idea: if the spiders are 10' away, she casts and runs (to avoid AOO). If we find the shield sooner...I assume we run...but it all depends on what she can actually see...
Krom swings his warhammer and points the business end of it up at the shield exclaiming, "Aye, found the bugger! Ye lot better be quick fer our new friends arrive." Once he is sure the everyone knows where the shield is at, Krom will turn his back to it and get into a guarding stance holding the warhammer in both hands.

You cast a spell that is released when your trigger is met. I still think your spell can work because you are still in control of the spell. I have to assume that you don’t want to hit your friends but it might mean that you’re the last to run to the shield, if anyone finds it in time. From where you are now, you see a moving rug of small spiders, the same ones you see littering the floor, they are not approaching stealthily and not fast but cautiously, still a bit unsure of the torchlight. You also see a larger shadow among the small. You can see about 10 feet down the tunnel before it turns to only black nothingness, even with Elosa (which means it must be unnatural).
Ithelion nervously glances around, a little sweat glistening on her brow as she idly wonders how much adrenaline is unhealthy in one day.
If she can, while managing a readied spell, she casts prestidigitation to make a flurry of sparks and lights in the tunnel entrance, hoping to slow them even more, since they are afraid of the flame.
