Daemyar will gesture to everyone to hold while he enters the room and moves in a circle around the dragon checking for anything out of place.
(I think we snagged the gems out of the last statue’s eyes… Daemyar’s going to try to see if they fit this statue’s eyes, and put ‘em in before inviting everyone in.)
Elosa ruffles her feathers towards the statue but she’s not sure what it is. Ithelion, the sight you see behind the statue through Elosa is a slightly wavering and roiling shadow.
Garnet does not approach the statue, she's staying back, on guard, watching the rear and looking ahead periodically. "Shadowy presence, that doesn't sound good..."
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Daemyar, you feel Elosa ruffle on your shoulder and you resist the urge to punch it in the beak. As you creep forward, you regard the dark circle, checking for any visible traps - there are none. You note the strange runes in a language you cannot read around the outside. Ithelion, as you look through Elosa's eyes, you can read this quite clearly, for it is Draconic:
"Let the sorcerous power illuminate my spirit."
Daemyar, you continue around the southern edge of the statue, keeping your eyes on it. As you get closer to the dark shadow cast behind the statue, you hear a terrible, discordant, ripping sound - think of it like forks scratched repeated on glass plates. It's terrible disconcerting and the sound builds into a set of wails. From the gloom emerge two shadows, which seeing you so close, are sprung into unlife once more.
Both are undetected by Daemyar since they are able to hide in dim light. He is surprised when they materialize.
Which means......everyone roll initiative! Shadow 1 - 21. Shadow 2 - 18.

Ithelion initiative: 17
Arcana/Religion (both same): 15
Ithelion calls Elosa back to her, and comes out of her trance-like state saying, "'Let the sorcerous power illuminate my spirit' -- I wonder if that means a light spell on the stone or runes?"
Ithelion frowns and stares at the cat for a moment before saying, "They are especially vulnerable to the light of the gods I believe." Perhaps that is what the runes meant?

Ithelion, nothing happens when you say the words aloud. It's possible that it could activate something but in the heat of battle, it's pretty hard to connect the dots...
Alright, these things are aaaaangry at you all. They hate the living and now that they know you're here.
"surprise round"
S1screams. Its rage pierces the room and especially Daemyar, who is right next to it. The brave hobgoblin looks back defiantly. Floating above the ground, S1 drifts towards Daemyar and a tentacle of darkness lashes out: Attack:5Damage:9. The damage type is necrotic. If it hits, Daemyar's strength score is reduced by 4.
S2 floats through the statue and end up on the other side, next to Daemyar. S2 gibbers and you hear the sound of smacking wet lips, as if someone was eating. It sounds like a pig at a trough. It reaches out for Daemyar with hands of darkness...: Attack:5Damage:10. The damage type is necrotic. If it hits, Daemyar's strength score is reduced by 4.
Round 1 S1 lashes out again at the hobgoblin: Attack:13Damage:9. The damage type is necrotic. If it hits, Daemyar's strength score is reduced by 3.
S2 again gibbers in hunger and the sounds get louder - it's a disturbing, moaning wail. Then it lashes out with a tentacle of darkness: Attack:13Damage:9. The damage type is necrotic. If it hits, Daemyar's strength score is reduced by 1.

Eyes still closed as they wait, Ithelion says quietly, "Tell Daemyar to be wary -- there's some strange shadowy presence behind the statue."
Given the above, gang, do you still proceed to take in the statue? Daemyar you still want to walk around it etc?
