Tharn Redeye - Half-orc Fighter - Heroes of Wildemount Kellen Belladar- Human Cleric - Troubles in the Wildwood: Blackthorn Brin Rainblade - Human Barbarian - The Great Orca Dungeon
Jasper will fall in next to Kellen to take advantage of the light. He keeps his rapier in his hand and peers into the darkness as best he can to look for danger.
The source of the magic seems to be coming from perpetual light sources. Two stone braziers filled with flickering green flames that flank a stairwell disappearing downward into the earth as Jasper's spell fades.

"Uh, guys.... my detect magic just ended. The last thing I saw was these green glowing braziers giving off magic. Is it worth me taking 10 minutes to ritually cast again, or is that a waste of our time?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"If we keep doing that, we won't make much progress. Maybe wait for now, and do it later needed?"
Kellen looks at the braziers. "These are curious. I wonder if there's a way to get some of the light-producing element into my lantern. It'd be nice to not need oil..."
(OOC: Not sure it's possible or what to roll, so...)
Tharn Redeye - Half-orc Fighter - Heroes of Wildemount Kellen Belladar- Human Cleric - Troubles in the Wildwood: Blackthorn Brin Rainblade - Human Barbarian - The Great Orca Dungeon
Kellen understands the magic is evocation akin to a light spell but he's not sure exactly what spell it is, it's much stronger and older than he's ever seen.

(OOC: Is there actual heat from the braziers? Would it be possible to try to remove a "coal" or something from the brazier and put it in Kellen's lantern? He has a crowbar if that would help.)

Jasper watches as Kellen looks at the magical brazier and tries to figure out where the glow comes from. He puts his small hand on Kellen's arm. He smiles and says, "I believe in you." A little bit of magical energy transfers to Kellen.
Jasper will give a d6 inspiration die to Kellen with bardic inspiration.
(OOC: Figured a little help on the roll couldn't hurt.)

Kellen smiles his thanks and turns back to the brazier.

OOC: As a DM preference so I can tell a Nat 20 is legit; please roll things separately. The prime example above you for a Nat 6 on your inspiration roll, not your check. Just a heads up! Thank you.
The flame is magical which Kellen still can not understand. There is not a singular lump of coal that can be removed or use in another way.

Kellen shrugs. "It was worth a shot, but I guess nothing doing for now. I guess we should head downstairs?"

"I agree Kellen. Downstairs it is." Jasper gives a reassuring smile, but there's a hint of nervousness on his face. He slowly twirls his rapier around and waits to see what the others say.

Malvech holds up his hand to get the others pause as he checks for traps before they move ahead. "I think we should check for traps. Who knows what we will find."
Mavlech finds no traps but his bulky frame is going to have a hard time moving down the steps. He will notice pinch points where anyone in front or behind him will be hard pressed to move around, even the wee one's will find it difficult terrain as they move down the eerie dark steps. At the first landing of the steps that turn sharply left still moving down a strange sort of black root system has spread from the Savalirwood above down into the elven ruins.
"Wait, Malvech," Kellen says. "Maybe it's better for Pyre to lead. We keep darkvision in front, but have better flexibility moving forward."
"I can help her over obstacles a lot more easily than I can push you," he grins. "Is that alright with you two?"
