Descending the stairs the party begins to see mosaic murals on the walls depicting the struggle of the elves to come into existence. As Pyre and the party move around another landing with one hallway ahead and another set of stairs that become much more narrow into a sharp spiral down. The hallway ahead or the stairwell down, which way does the party choose to go?

As he moves behind the party, Malvech will be using his various tools to chisel lines into the wall to mark where they have been, making sure to keep in line with the party.

"If we can't find a trail to follow, I'd like to check out this floor first. I want to get a better sense of what's 'normal' for this place before we get deeper in. Is that okay?" Kellen asks. "Thanks for marking the trail, Malvech."

Jasper will stay within range of Kellen's lantern yet try to move as stealthily as possible. "Makes sense. We might as well just explore each level as we come to it." Jasper crouches down and examines the floor to try and find any noticable tracks in the dust and floor.
As Mavlech uses tools to chisel out markings anyone else's attempts to be silent are in vain. Kellen's lantern light aids the cleric and Jasper who notice the strange black root growth coming down into the staircase show more signs of wear as well as drag marks leading through the hallway and not the dust-covered spiral staircase that leads further below!

Jasper points at the wear marks. "Look, there's definitely more wear on that section of the root system and also leading down the hallway.... and do those look like drag marks to you?" He then points to the spiral staircase that heads down. "Dust is still intact on that staircase too, so nothing has gone that way for a while...... well, nothing living at least." He pauses for a second."So, what's the first thing everyone is gonna do once we rescue these kids and get out of here? Me, I'm gonna go to the tavern, get a flagon of ale and a nice meal. Then I'm gonna find the most beautiful woman in there and ask her to dance."
"Good plan, Jasper. But I'm going to focus on you having two good legs to dance with for now. Lead the way, Pyre. Looks like the hallway is the popular route."
Kellen looks back at Malvech. "I'm glad we have a marked trail, but maybe next time we should bring some chalk..."

"I also believe we should go straight. Check out and clear out this level before descending further." Pyre says. Pyre will attempt to perceive any problems ahead.
"And as usual I will be there for you when you are rejected and want a drinking buddy." Malvech says to Jasper with a teasing smile before he turns and nods to Kellen. "Noted but while this may be loud it makes it harder for someone to erase."

Moving into the hallway Pyre doesn't notice anything. She looses sight of the tracks and does not notice the small glyph on the wall. The gnome steps on setting off a modified fire bolt trap trigger unleashing 10 of fire damage. Everyone roll DEX save DC13 full damage if fail; half on success.

“It’s getting to be a busy day,” comments Kellen. He pulls a small piece of white cloth out of a pouch and with a word and simple gesture casts Aid on Pyre, Jasper, and Malvech. “That should help keep you healthy for a few hours. If you still feel weak, let me know.”

"Ugggghhh. That hurt." Jasper leans against the wall, looking pale, sweating profusely. He has burns from the magic missile on his neck and continuing down his right arm. As Kellen casts his spell, some of the wounds heal, but there are still some angry burns visible. "Hopefully there's not many more surprises like that, or I won't be dancing after all. Kellen, you've helped us, but do you need any healing?"
(OOC: Was down to 1 HP until Kellen restored me to 6. Only have 11 max cause Jasper's a level 1 character. You'd think with a +6 I could make a Dex save:)
