Swigg appears at H4 with guitar in hand and shouts out to Kulum. "Lets give this audience a show worth remembering. I suggest you join my team until we take down Koplony."(Wis Save DC 14)
Then he will duck back down behind the ice spikes Le Poof!15
(sigh...why not? The action isnt harmful to himself. Its just a bad tactic. The spell even cites several examples of obvious harm as doing damage. Im not asking Kulum to do damage to himself by any means. I spent a spell slot, Im using concentration, he failed the save FFS. What is up with this? With this spell I want to take him out of the game or have him join my team. Can I do that? I should be able to if he isnt hurting himself. THESE ARE MY OTHER SUGGESTIONS: Pick one that works for you.
Dig a hole with his weapon and stick his head in the ground
Put a bandanna over your eyes and cover your ears and keep spinning.
Sit down and throw your weapons far away from you.
Get buck naked and dance like no one is watching
NONE OF THESE are as fun as Kulum joining my team because they remove his agency and I would hate to play that game but they should work considering the wording of the spell)
This is the spell Suggestion -
You suggest a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two) and magically influence a creature you can see within range that can hear and understand you. Creatures that can't be charmed are immune to this effect. The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the course of action sound reasonable. Asking the creature to stab itself, throw itself onto a spear, immolate itself, or do some other obviously harmful act ends the spell.
The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it pursues the course of action you described to the best of its ability. The suggested course of action can continue for the entire duration. If the suggested activity can be completed in a shorter time, the spell ends when the subject finishes what it was asked to do.
You can also specify conditions that will trigger a special activity during the duration. For example, you might suggest that a knight give her warhorse to the first beggar she meets. If the condition isn't met before the spell expires, the activity isn't performed.
If you or any of your companions damage the target, the spell ends.
Im confused. Whats happening with my spell? This also isnt a save or lose situation. It may feel that way because I play to win. It feels like that is being held against me. I use my spells viciously and creatively. He aint killing himself he should do what I say. It seems like you are trying to tip the scales because my choice was too effective. He failed the save because I chose a target with a weak wisdom defense. If they both had strong Wis I would have done something else. Im...a little frustrated because im not going against the will of the spell. Im going against the will of a dm that doesn't like how I use my magic. That is lame.
(ooc: Koplony will use his Chronal Shift feature to give Kulum another chance at his WIS saving throw.)

"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
(Hey everyone so it looks like Suggesiton is a little too vague of a spell to be used in the arena. I was wondering if the participants of this match would be fine with me switching out suggestion for hold person and have the results be the same. My intention was basically to do a fun mind bendy hold person anyway.)
(ooc: I got no problem with you switching spells to Hold Person )
(was planning on getting around your Suggestion by breaking your concentration... or just calling out "Argh! I've been taken down!")

(Sometimes I try and resolve vague or difficult problems in the arena by giving vague rulings. Sometimes the problems just go away before they ever actually get addressed. In this case I'm leaving the results up to you to interpret as you see fit, and if the problem comes to a point that a ruling is truly needed I'll give you something more clear. I was about to write "Kulum is petrified with indecision as he's locked in a state of confusion." Instead I wrote this paragraph.)

(ooc: yeah I know you don't have to see me but the rules for cover are:)
Total Cover
A target with total cover can't be targeted directly by an attack or a spell, although some spells can reach such a target by including it in an area of effect. A target has total cover if it is completely concealed by an obstacle.
(And Dissonant Whispers is a target spell not an area of effect spell... but I made the save anyway.)
