As debris crashes down around the group, swing continues to shred. Xeno dives through a cloud of dust and fires again at the druid. Grianne can't withstand the onslaught any longer, and she collapses to the floor.
As the dust settles academy staff emerge from thecshadows and tendvto the fallen. Grianne and Dorkas each gain 2500 experience and find a purse of 240 gold coins when they recover.
Congratulation, Xeno and Swing, you are victorious. You are each given an opportunity to select a prize. You each also gain 3800 experience and a purse of 600 gold.
Tier 1:
"Take any one item. We're well equipped." The room contains every item from Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook weighing 70 pounds or less, armor of varying sizes, instruments, tool kits. There are also spell scrolls, every first level spell is present (as well as spell scrolls of a level for which a magic user of the characters new level would have slots for), and an encyclopedia of knowledge. Reading these books will grant you proficiency with any one tool kit or any one language, depending which book you choose. The books are magically infused to allow easy retention, but the magic is lost once used.
Upper Tier:
The victor may choose instead, an item from a magically infused chest that summons 10 randomly selected magic items to choose from (rarity determined by level). Alternatively they may exchange a magic item for another item of their choosing of the same rarity or lower, if the administrator has the requested item in his extensive collection. "You name it, we've probably got one somewhere."
(I'd say that turret is one of the most broken features I've seen in this game so far. I wonder if Wizards even considered the effect of an ability that grants temp HP to a group every single round for only a bonus action...)

(It's weird. You press it, it works, it doesn't appear to work, you press it again it stops working, it appears to have worked. I should write a bug report, but its been like that for over a year.)
Outside of environments in which its slow speed, low hp, lack of initiative(as in, it does its thing alone... and nothing more), and possibly a few other more minor things... yeah, it can feel oppressive until the higher levels.

Dreadwood enters the arena slapping the flat side of his battleaxe against his shield. With every tap, the symbol on his shield glows brighter and brighter until finally it stays fully kindled as a great beacon to ward off the darkness. "'O Father who rests within the forge of creation. Thou humble servants requests a mantle fitting a servant who might gaze in wonder of your splendors, and know a better path."He requests, and soon after his cloak turns red, transparent, and seemed to flutter in an unseen wind.
The characters will know of the event about 12 hours (game time) before the match is to begin, the characters will be able to complete a long and short rest before the match. However, there is no indication of how long they will be waiting once they arrive. No spell effects with less than an hour duration will be active when the battle begins. Characters will recieve a short countdown of only a few seconds when the battle begins before the gates open. They will have only one round to prepare.

Koplony (O), a very tall, blue skinned man with no hair, and wearing a green cloak, carries a dagger at his belt along with a thick tome.
Horatio (H), a timid man with a shield and a curved sword. He also carries a powerful wand and the focus of his power.
Sha'kar (S), a lean elf wearing a heavy cloak and a golden headband. He carries a stout wooden staff to battle, and a small owl named Oh rides on his shoulder.
Nock (N), a tall elfish man with black hair and beard wears heavy player armor and a heavy cloak. He clutches a massive hammer in his gauntleted fist.
Dreadwood (D), a mass of fiberous cords and stone in the shape of a man, is protected by plated armor and a sturdy shield. He carries a wide variety of arms onto the battlefield.
And one other, (10)... A barbarian, Klarg (B), the bugbear!
Koplony will fight along side (6)... Sha'kar, and (4)... Horatio!
After the teams have had time to prepare, a weathered old voice calls out "Five, four, three, ... Begin." The gates open, and the battle begins.
