Soren steps in and with a strong swing of his blade which he is certain should finish the creature off. But the corroded blade doesn't cut nearly as well as it could have and it takes Areus and a jab from his short sword to finish the lion off. It falls dead at your feet.
Callaphe approaches the lion and starts trying to retrieve her arrows. Once done she lays a hand on it, intrigued, "If this isn't a beast... then what is it?" She asks outloud.
"Not sure - but it can certainly do some damage" Tisto replies taking a swig of his so called magic potion "Gods this is revolting but I wasn't lying when I told Soren it'd take his mind off the pain!"
Areus checks again the ruined blade of his spear and shakes his head "It was my favorite spear...maybe a smith can repair it, but for my sword will do." The hoplite places the ruined spear on his back and walks near Callaphe as she checks the creature. "I too wonder what kind of creature was it. It looked like a very big lion, but its mane is different." Areus pauses a few seconds and then adds "I wonder how it has survived this long down here...I doubt that this will be our first encounter with something hostile. How do you feel? Tisto, Callaphe are you all right?"
The echoes of the battle fall quiet as the group contemplates such a creature here in the empty and lost remains of the temple they have found. Had this creature been trapped here, or left to guard something. It was perhaps something they would not get an answer to. With the lion defeated you are able to continue on through the room. The back wall is not far and in it is set another pair of doors. You pick your way through the remainder of the debris and reach the doors.
Pushing these open you enter a room that is 20 feet in diameter with the ceiling rising 15 feet into the air. This round room is better preserved than the last. Some columns have toppled, and a stream of cool, clear water trickles in through a fissure in the wall, but in the center stands a stone statue of the goddess Ephara, posed as if addressing a crowd of listeners. The statue glows with a harsh, white light, dazzling after so much darkness, and upon her face the goddess wears a black mask warped into an expression of profound grief.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"The Ainoe mask!" says Areus pointing to the black mask on the statue. "Let's hope that this room does not have other guardians like that creature we just fought." Areus carefully looking around and testing the floor (Perception19 ), walks near Ephara's statue. "Your mask, Goddess, is in danger. We have been tasked to take it outside the polis, allow us to take it." says Areus taking the Ainoe mask from the statue.
"It is not an normal mask, Erebos made this mask ages ago." replies Areus while carefully taking the mask "Since you are with us and fought with us, I will share this. We have been hired by the Twelve to take out town this mask as someone seeks it for his personal power. I am not good at telling stories, so I will leave the tale of this myth to Tisto."
The bright light from the statue blinds you momentarily but as you shield your eyes you gradually grow accustomed to the light. With the rest keeping watch Areus boldly approaches and reaches out to take the mask from the statue
Areus:
As your fingers grasp the mask for a brief moment you are overtaken by memories of your most tragic, devastating moment. A deep feeling of grief overwhelms you but then just as quickly with a visible shudder the feeling passes.
"I am ok, Soren, now I am ok." replies Areus looking at the mask in his hands. "This is indeed the Ainoe Mask. It showed me something I did not want to see from my past." Areus shakes his head and carefully place the Ainoe Mask in the cloth wrap that holds the White Fragment of Elpis Mask.
"Burn you giant ***** cat - burn!" Tisto calls out as he casts Fire Bolt Attack: 25 Damage: 3

"You came down her for a mask?" Callaphe says, keeping an any out for anything unusual.

“Right you are Areus me lad” Tisto reponds. Then in irreverent way that the others have come to expect of the Satyr he starts
“Death, Doom and Rest were a throuple long ago
A pretty boring throuple if I may say so!
But after the Titan’s great war
The throuple was no more
In memory Death did create two masks though."
