"No Kurma, I don't hear any monkeys. But maybe I did not pay attention?"
Brunella stops and listens for sounds and noises of animals.
Brunella Wildheart makes a Nature check! 1d20 (9) - 1 = 8
As soon as Brunella passes through the obelisks, she hears the shrieking monkeys as well. She can't quite determine what kind of monkey is that. There are a lot of different species in Chult.
Irommek strains to hear the monkeys but wonders if his companions (or himself) is going a bit crazy. Pulling his hammer and readying his shield, he steps carefully through the two obelisks...
Passed the obelisks, five corridors stands in front of the adventures. The central one is lacking any door or portcullis and gives access to a room with a monkey statue in the middle. The other corridors, two on the left and as many on the right, have each a portcullis but they are jammed to prevent them from dropping.
Gertrude follows her companions through the obelisks. "I am sure someone or something is waiting for us in there. Maybe monkeys?" Gertrude carefully inspects the upper parts of the building, the roof from the outside and the ceiling once she is close to peak inside.

(Gertrude perception if needed 12 )
It seems there is nothing weird on the upper part of the building.
A ten-foot-tall stone statue of an evil-looking monkey balances on its tail atop a stone dais in the middle of this twenty-foot-high chamber. The statue’s limbs are splayed, with hands and feet cupped. On the wall behind, a sculpted relief shows a monkey-like creature tearing into a giant serpent. Cuneiform inscriptions are carved above and below the relief. Four masks of painted stone protrude from the walls; they depict the heads of a lion, a zebra, a boar, and a vulture.
Kurma's detect magic spell reveals an aura of conjuration on the statue and auras of transmutation on the masks.
It appears obvious that one could reach the rear of the masks from the other corridors.
Much like a logic puzzle, Kurma figures out the translation of the inscription below the carvings: “That night, a su-monster broke into Ubtao’s palace and stole a pail of water for the Omuans. When the god came running to find it, the su-monster hid the pail in a jaculi’s burrow. Ubtao asked the jungle animals where his water was hidden, and Moa the jaculi was too honest to lie. When Wongo the su-monster found out how Moa had betrayed him, he vowed to catch the jaculi and eat him up."
A bit hidden at the statue's feet there is another inscription: "Wongo’s friend knows where to pour the water.”
Kurma is looking for the mask, in particular for a jaculi mask, and look through it
ooc : does lKurma knows what a jaculi is ?
OOC A Jaculi is a serpent-like beast. You fought a group of those back in the Aldani Basin. There is no jaculi masks. The masks depict the heads of a lion, a zebra, a boar, and a vulture. To look through a mask to have to go back and take one of the other corridors.
Brunella stops and thinks. Then, uncharacteristically for her, she speaks up. "The vulture is no friend of the monkey. It flies too high and too far. The boar is too stubborn to listen to the monkey's cleverness. The zebra, too shy to follow the monkey's advice. But the lion, he is different. The lion is strong. The monkey is clever. Together, they can do anything. Like us. She points to Gertrude and Irommek when she says 'strong', and then to Felix, Kurma, and Oniss when she says 'clever'.
Nodding in agreement, at both Brunella's logic and her judgement that he's as strong as the girls, he smiles inward and thinks, "I may be strong, but I'm pretty sure I know who I would bet against if we make it back to the Thundering Lizard and I get myself into an arm wrestling match with either of those two."
Exiting the entrance and re-entering through the portcullis with the lion mask, Irommek stands up on his tiptoes and looks through the mask.
When taking the 'lion' corridor, Irommek does see a cuneiform writing on top of the mask. Looking through the lion masks, the old dwarf sees a ray of blue light falling from the ceiling onto the right hand of the statue.

"I hear it too, Kurma. I do not know what kind of monkeys these are."
Brunella continues past the obelisks, carefully.

Felix will follow behind the two barbarians and after they reached the statue he will investigate the area.
[Did the other doorways looked jammed close or open?]

[what does a su-monster look like? - found it, it's the monkey on the statue, right?]
