As Seviari picks over the rubble in the keep, movement catches his eye. Across the valley to the northwest, a band of 20-some figures is running full-tilt down the hills towards Nightstone.
Ink, Quill sees something troubling.

On a side note, forgetting that he's now temporarily blind, Ink stubs his toe on a rock.
Standing atop the motte, you see around two dozen armored figures running toward Nightstone from a distance to the north. It looks as if they have weapons drawn.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have company, and they're coming in hot!" Sev pulls his bow off of his back and looks at Ink and the guards. "Do you think we can drag some tables out there? We can use the tables as cover if things get hairy, and us with ranged weapons can pick them off from this side." He then looks at Solace, "And if these are Zhents, we owe you a big apology."
//Also, can Sev make a check, on the sly so no one notices, to see how much that ring is possibly worth?//
Please let me know where you are putting yourselves.
You can place yourselves anywhere on the map in preparation to "meet" these uninvited visitors. They are approaching from far in the north. The map below has markings on it, so that you can specify. The walls surrounding the village (bailey) and the keep (motte) are 15' tall. The watchtowers are the only way to clearly see over the walls, so if you're thinking bows and arrows, the watchtowers are where you want to be. Just FYI, I believe two ladders were removed from the two southernmost watchtowers in order to span the bridge (the southwest watchtower is demolished anyway).
Without climbing gear (or magic), no one can climb the walls. The slopes of the moat, however, are scalable without gear.
Lastly, the drawbridge is UP. Sorry about the illustration showing it down, but it is UP and now just part of the walls surrounding the village. So the drawbridge cannot be crossed to enter/exit the village, unless someone inside uses the winch to lower it.
Sev is at 11, bow ready for anyone that comes his way. He speaks up and says, "It looks to me like if we all stay over here and pull the bridge, then they can't do anything except try and pick us off. There are way more of them than there of us, so unless someone has an elaborate scheme to take them out, I say we stay here and get rid of the bridge, maybe set up a small barrier so they can't jump across."
"O'course might be better ta meet them at the breach at that ruined tower. That way, we can talk to 'em there an if they're hostile pick'em off while they cross the river then fall back ta here."
"They can shout across the divide if they wish to speak. I personally don't want to risk that, but if you do, just stay within range and I can cover you from here."
"TWENTY TWO orcs charging from the north weapons drawn! Expect no mercy! Expect no parlay!"
Ink will warn the remaining guards to find what ranged weapons they have and suggest that they get to the top of the keep and pick off who they can.
"Sir," Kalen says, "we have a few crossbows, but I don't think we'll be able to hit anyone from up on the roof keep. Did you mean for us to get up on the walls?" She asks, pointing to the very defensible outer curtain walls surrounding the keep motte. "That's where we normally do our patrols and watching," she said.
One of the other guards piped up, "I just feel bad that so many of us died when the rocks fell. We could have send more men into the watchtowers with crossbows."
//Marav is going to go to 10, knock an arrow and hide inside the house using my previous stealth roll if possible. :) (hate to waste a natural 20)//
"When they come past me I'll step out and pepper them with arrows from behind. Marav shudders as Ink yells "orcs", he hates orcs.
Marav reaches the building, a windmill that is around 25'-30' feet tall. Easily the tallest building in the village, especially seeing as it's set on a small hill. However, there doesn't seem to be any windows set into the windmill, and it sits back several yards from the village's defensive palisade. Standing at the entry to the windmill on the hill, Marav can just see over the 15' tall palisade wall. Once the orcs get to the village, he won't be able to see them to shoot an arrow at them, as the palisade will be blocking his line of sight.
Flint is at 11 preparing to pull the bridge if needed.
He's also keeping an eye on the ruined tower at 2f, looks like a weakspot.
Looking at the mostly-demolished stone watchtower (2F) Flint can see that, while it's not a viable perch for an archer like the rest of the watchtowers, it's still a strong part of the palisade and doesn't appear to be a breach in the wall. However, looking for a bottleneck, you can tell that it might be possible to climb the slopes of the village bailey in the south and gain entry to the village via the break in the palisade where the bridge opening is (11 / 4h). This is only readily apparent from the south of the village.
Closer to Flint, set into the motte’s stone curtain wall, are two windowless stone gatehouses (12) with wood-shingled, high-pitched rooftops. Between them stands a set of oak doors with iron hinges. The doors can be barred shut from within, but they aren’t currently barred. The southern half of the left gatehouse was destroyed by a falling rock, and three guards were killed there, but the outside of the gatehouse remains as impenetrable as the rest of the defensive wall.

Hearing this, Flint goes out to the bridge to pull the ladders to our side if the need arises.

"Aye, it'sa good plan elf. I'm leavin' the bridge in place fer now tho, we don't yet know their intentions an' we may need ta cross still."
