Crownsguard beeps in alarm, lifts cat into his embrace and sprints into the temple. He will pump five points of Lay on Hands to heal any disease in Cat and 1 point to bring it back if he is unconscious! Crownsguard is going to run to local healing man, Flint for assistance!
”Flint! I believe Cat is what you organics call, ‘dying!’”
Quill travels another 40 feet and sees another pair of 30’ stone archways, same as the previous ones, leading to 60’ square rooms with giant stone couches on them. The hallway keeps going.
Ink, slipping out of Quill's eyes, commands her to go forward until she sees the end, at which point she should screech and return - unless she feels endangered at which point she should screech and return immediately.
Ink removes the collapsible pole, borrowed from Rip, extends it and begins slowly moving forward through the hall. He mutters to himself, "This whole temple is probably a massive trap. Why am I even doing this?"
Ink moves at half speed, searching for traps along the ground using the pole as a guide. He also takes the time to look at the walls and ceilings for traps and other dangers.
"Note to self - I'm much more paranoid when by myself."
If Ink hears Quill screech he stops and attempts to see through her eyes.
As Ink and Quill progress carefully through the hall, Quill gets well out of Ink’s line of sight and eventually out of range of their telepathic communication.
Then, just as Ink is approaching the third set of arched doorways, walls of stone spring into existence, completely sealing off the archways!
// Ink, please roll initiative for yourself and Quill. //
Harshnag looks up as Crownsguard runs into the temple, appearing concerned for Cat. Then there is a loud crash, like a BOOM, which sounds as if it came from the north.
“What in the name of thunder...” Harshnag grabs his axe.
Ink hasn’t heard anything from Quill, and the archways to his east and west have sealed off.
Ink enacts his bladesong and calls out to Quill with his mind, but she's put of range. Ink then calls out, Quill! To me!" Unsure of what to do as he is not within telepathic range, and the path ahead of him cloaked in darkness, he starts moving back south towards the entrance.
In the darkness ahead, Ink hears a loud rumble, Quill’s urgent screech, and the she suddenly is cut silent. The rumbling continues, and he can feel his bones rattling with the vibrations.
Ink unable to reach out to Quill surmises aloud, "Something big enough to catch Quill as she flies sixty feet high..."
Panic touches Ink's face he turns south and is in a full sprint. As he sprints towards the south end of the hall, he sees that the previously inert stone giant statue has come to life!
ink sees, over his shoulder, a spherical stone that fills up the hallway rolling towards him, and picking up speed!
The statue is stomping in his direction (northwards), hands outstretched. Between the stone statue moving toward him and the closed off hallway, he sees a gap. Using most of his remaining magical reserve, he is able to misty step the distance to get just past the stone golem.
The giant statue sets its feet as the spherical boulder rolls towards it, traveling dozens of feet per second, and its outstretched hands catch the boulder with a mighty crash of stone on stone!
The giant statue is pushed back slightly and the entire room is filled with dust and ice particles. Ink stands there covered in very cold stone dust.
The giant statue begins to walk north, rolling the boulder back up the incline at a relatively slow pace. Ink after having a few breaths follows, keeping it just within the edge of his darkvision.
After a few seconds, Ink feels Quill’s presence in hid mind, and her emotional state is one of panic and concern.
Thankfully, she had been flying high enough that she was able to narrowly avoid the crushing sphere. She flutters silently past the lumbering stone statue and does a loop around ink, checking if he is wounded.
The statue walks the full length of the hallway, passing what amounts to seven pairs of stone archways before pushing the sphere into the north wall. Once the stone touches the north wall, it melds into it so that it is completely undetectable.
Ink, on the way back, searches for runes or panels that might have set this death trap off.
Each side of this hallway is identically appointed, and must have served at one point as a kind of quartering area for the giants who once served here.
As he searches and moves south, Ink warily checks on the golem from time to time. And the stone statue lumbers back south, completely ignoring Ink. As Ink was looking, he noticed a small crevice at the back wall of one of the rooms. It was the fourth room on the left.
Ink goes back to the corner he came in by observing the golem along the way.
The stone statue plods back down the incline to its alcove at the southern end of the hall, where it then turns around, sets its feet, and becomes inert once more. A life-sized statue of a stone giant.
Ink and Quill huddle in the corner happy to be safely reunited. Then both look at the stairs to their west.
The stairs don’t look dangerous.
Ink asks Quill, "Should we check the upstairs?" Quill tilts her head curiously that direction. "Ok. Let's go but you have to scout. I'm out of all my good spells," Ink replies.
Ink scouts the area (stairs) using Quill's sight. Then moves up, checking for traps along the way.
The stairs are difficult to climb, and cold as ice, but the ascent is safe. There is a landing, and then the second flight of stairs ascends to the second level, where there is another hallway. The ground in this hallway is flat, no incline.
At the top of the stairs, on the south wall, is another alcove with a giant statue. This one is a female cloud giant, who appears positioned as if she’s casting a spell. On her face is an angry mask, but she is totally inanimate.
The hallway is shaped similarly to the one below, 40’ wide by 60’ high, and has 30’ archway openings lining its west and east walls.
Quill sweeps the room as Ink stays by the stairs. She scans for life or other dangers. Ink is more trepidatious this time. Quill returns summarily, having found no signs of life or other dangers.
Ink approaches the statue carefully, And checks it for physical traps (Investigation 21), or runes or other arcane nonsense (Arcana 22). Cloud giants are known spell casters.
Harshnag greets Crownsguard and Cat while the others sleep, and (being a frost giant who has spent a large portion of time with small folk) recognizes the effects of hypothermia at once. He gets up and guides you over to one of the warm sconces, grabbing a small rag from his pack that is about as big as a tablecloth once it drapes over your arms.
“Keep it dry, warm and bundled!” The giant says gruffly to Crownsguard. “I’m going to go check out that ruckus...I’m putting you officially on watch while I’m gone.” He sets off towards the north wing of the temple complex, axe held up like a gleaming torch to light his way.
Flint will follow harshnag to the point that he realizes the immediate danger is past. If he sees Ink he'll chastise him for exploring this dangerous place alone, then he'll return to his rest.
// Yeah, I think we need some consensus on timing. Maybe they saw me as I was considering moving upstairs? Or while the golem was returning the stone? I'm not sure how long all that took. //
The noise was behind doors, so not so great as to automatically alarm sleeping individuals, but at least enough to concern Harshang, who went to go investigate. You may respond however you feel appropriate. Marav remains asleep, Flint goes to briefly investigate.
Flint and Harshnag find Ink and Quill on the second story of the temple, easily tracking them due to Ink's footprints on the giant steps leading up.
"What was that noise just a few minutes ago?" Harshnag asks Ink, who was just examining a life-size cloud giant statue made from stone.

Ink looks up at the frost giant, eyes widen at the realization that he completely forgot to warn the others.
"Ahh, yes - that. Seems that the builders of this temple decided to trap the quartering area on the floor below with a massive stone almost forty feet in diameter that charges down from the north end to the south end of the hall. That stone giant statue is actually a golem built to catch the rolling stone. The crash you heard was when the golem caught the stone."
"You're right Flint - I shouldn't have gone alone. Both Quill and I were almost flattened. She was very concerned about me. I don't know what set it off though. I didn't find anything physical - perhaps magical. Can you detect magic, Flint? We might be able to find the trigger mechanism that way."
"In any case, the danger has passed. Figured I'd search up here for the axe. This statue seems completely inert and Quill's sweep of the room turned up nothing. So, besides the cold, it seems safe up here. I'll be down in a little bit - I got angry... The activity is making my mind right. Although almost dying was not expected."
Seeing the types of statues and their position flint offers "by th' position o'th' runes, ah'd start yer search to th' southwest." With that, flint returns to his rest.
// earlier flint will have responded to crowns guard's call for help and offers cat some of his blanket. //
"I'll be thankful for the company, Harshnag. Especially since the light your axe gives off makes everything much brighter for me," Ink replies to Harshnag.
He thanks Flint for the advice.
With collapsible pole in hand, Ink, with Harshnag in tow, checks all the rooms. Along the way, he's using the collapsible pole to help him search for traps. He goes about the entire floor searching methodologically.
This upstairs hallway is structurally similar to the one below it, but by light of Harshnag's axe, you can see that much of it has collapsed, leaving a few rooms to the east and west to explore. The rest of...whatever remained of the northern end of the hallway...is buried in rubble.
The rooms to the east and west off this hallway have sculpted stone couches, which looks as if they could double as beds, same as the hallway below. But in the second-to-last room on the right, you find a giant, stitched leather sack, sitting on one of the beds. Quill alights on the sack, which dwarfs her in size, and pecks at its drawstring (which is a very thick cord of leather).
Crownsguard cannot detect a heartbeat, and Cat feels very cold.
Dog nudges the little feline’s body and urges Crownsguard inside the temple.
