Milo makes a suggestion.. "I say we ready ourselves for the trip, and meet on the edge of town in an hour. After 5 hours of travel, we make camp for the night. I will search for food nearby our campsite, accompanied by any willing. We can make a plan for tomorrow around the fire."
thinking practically, Milo takes a quick peruse around the shops, before leaving the town. Looking to aquire a couple (×2) of pouches. Hoping to pay around market value (0.5 gp each). On their way out of town, he would fill his pouches (if he has them, if not, his pockets) with pebbles.
Milo picks up a a couple of pouches at 5 sp each before leaving town.

During their trek into the hills the heroes see various animals across the landscapes. They are all aware of the heroes and keep their distance - even the ones downwind know they have been spotted and focus their attention elsewhere for their next meal.
After about five hours you come to narrow meadow of tall grasses, some wild flowers, and a few trees scattered about. The meadow is surrounded by and held up by three hills to the West (to the forest), South (more hills), and East (to town). The North boundary of the meadow is a river ravine about 100’ across and about 100’ nearly straight down to the river. On the other side of the ravine is more of the same - grasses, some while flowers and trees. One tree has grown right on the opposite edge with large branches = some hanging over the ravine. This looks like a nice area to set up camp. It’s about 7 PM - roughly 2 hours before sunset.
oog Donnar's survival check should have been a +1 and Elrodin's should have been a -1. But still resulting in low rolls. Sketchy dice roller, as the math wasn't even done on Donnar's roll (I had it as a -1). /oog
Deciding the northern boundary was most likely the safest bet, Milo heads towards the ravine edge. After laying out his bedroll, and digging a small pit for a fire, the halfling looks to his surroundings. He has a few things on his mind: where to collect firewood (and possibly a small block for carving), and are there any animals nearby? (To hunt for food, or to possibly befriend one).
Attracting the attention of his travel companions, he says "I would like to search the area for wildlife and firewood." He intends to take a small expedition. "When I return, I will heal anyone in need if I am still able. Would anyone like to accompany me?"
*His plan is to travel in the direction best suited to his desires, hopefully no more than an hour away*
Milo and Valorset out to survey their surroundings while the other heroes tend to the camp near the ridge to the ravine. Those back at camp and finish setting things up and taking the opportunity to get in a short rest if they need to heal a bit.
Out among the hills Milo and Valor are able to find wood for a fire from bushes scattered about here and there. Up above, an eagle and a vulture can be seen circling the area one more time for a meal before the sun sets. Up ahead, the two heroes see a badger scurrying around some rocks West, some elk to the South and lone dire wolf to the East. The land animals are some distance away, unaware they have been spotted. The wind is blowing to the East.
oog Roll your checks with your comment if you are going to do anything, stealth, animal handling, medicine while out wondering or hanging out at the camp etc... I was thinking of rolling them for y'all to move things along, then I realized I don't know what you want to do. haha /oog
Noting that the biggest real threat lies in the dire wolf, he turns towards the east, intending to deal with the animal, one way or another. Pulling a ration from his pack, he starts walking east in a southward arc. Stopping at the south most point of his curve, he takes the iron pot from his pack, places it upside down on the ground as a small makeshift table, and begins seperating the ration. Milo leaves the dried fruits and nuts on the pot as a snack for any interested elk, taking the jerky in his hand. He grasps the totem hanging from his neck, and utters in druidic "Comprehension ." casting speak with animals, before he continues towards the east.
The Halfling approaches the dire wolf from the southwest, attempting to keep his scent off the wind. (Stealth 12)
He approaches with the friendliest of intentions and would like to stay at least 50ft away. But if things do go sour, he is prepared as always.
(Oog) casting as a ritual, I must maintain my concentration on the spell. I can move, speak, and interact with objects in the world, and use bonus actions, but my action is occupied by the spell. If I attack or get hit, the spell ends. (Oog)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Milo approaches, holding out the jerky, he calmly states to the beast "I mean you no harm, My name is Milo, have you a name?" (persuasion +1 or animal handling +5 10)
The Dire Wolf has been well aware of the halfling's presence the moment a breeze brought him into 'view' with its senses. With conflicting instincts, food and threat, the wolf stands motionless facing the approaching person - ready to either pounce or flee in an instant. Then, like a dream, the wolf hears the person speak and he's surprised to find that he even understands what is being said.
"I don't have a name. Do you have food? I smell food. What do you want? I've seen people like you. Usually they are bigger. Most just walk by, some try to harm us. You are with others. I can smell them on you. Where are they?"
oog So, the check was passed with either animal handling or persuasion so I'm not going to having you roll again if you want to persuade the wolf to work together/be a companion during this initial encounter. But since it is a wild animal, you will need to work with it every day for a week. So, every day, make an animal handling check of DC 10 to see if it stays or goes. /oog
When checking the bait Milo laid out on the upturned pot, he finds several rats which can easily be caught, killed, and returned to camp for food.
The other heroes have used this time to patch themselves up and are awaiting Milo's return. Getting hungry, they are not sure if they should wait or start digging into their daily rations.
placing the food down and taking several steps back, the halfling encourages the beast to eat. "Yes I have food. Some prepared meat." he gestures towards the jerky. "Eat freely. I am a friend to animals. I cannot always speak to animals, it takes great concentration." He kneels, showing he is no threat. "You were right about my companions, we are heading into the forest to help keep it safe. I would be honoured if you would join us. We can assist in hunting, and share our foods. We will split all spoils. My companions are larger than I, but will accept you and protect you as I will. I will just need to speak to them first." He smiles at the creature, hoping the expression isn't lost. "We can bring these rats back to the camp and eat more while I explain our situation to the others."
Milo catches the rats in the pot and returns to the wolf. He pats his leg and starts to walk towards his camp, if the wolf follows: he casts speak with animals again for the walk back. "How do you like the name Lupe?"
oog Those heroes that remained at the camp to rest, please heal, use your hit die, or whatever before continue. This was assumed what was done while kicking back while Milo brought home dinner. haha oog
The dire wolf cautiously agrees to this new symbiotic relationship. Although he has no idea what prepared meat means, he saw Milo gather several rats into his pocket which are pretty tasty. The wolf says, "I will accompany you while I see that both or our needs are being met. What's a Lupe?"
The sun has set and night is settling in. The heroes sit around the campfire eating, drinking, resting, and talking about the day they shared that is now coming to a close - not to mention this large animal Milo brought back to camp. With no moon, the environment is dark beyond the 20’ of light the campfire produces.
Over the discussions, a sound travels into the camp. At first nobody hears it as the conversation is active and engaging, but as discussion regarding the current topic stops, a soft and gentle sounds can be heard by all. The heroes stop what they are doing and look at each other to see if they are hearing the same thing. A few more notes are heard…it’s a melody…a few more still are heard,…it’s a song. It’s beautiful.
Heroes must roll a Wisdom saving throw...

Donnar, Elrodin, and Menttal stand up as if they were in a trance. They turn toward the source of the song, the most beautiful thing they have ever heard.
Milo and Valor watch as their companions stand up and start walking toward the edge of the ravine, about 50' away, toward the source of the song. The source seems to be somewhat distant from them, they know it's not coming from this side of the ravine. It must be coming from across the ravine. In this darkness, they cannot see beyond the edge of the campfire light.

Before breaking his concentration on his speak with animals, Milo sends a telpathic message to Lupe. "Stay close. Possible danger."
Standing from his cross-legged position, the halfling pulls a torch from his pack in his main hand, and sweeps it through the fire. Walking straight towards the source of the sound, the druid pulls three pebbles from the pouch at his waist. As he rubs the pebbles between his fingers he utters in druidic "BOOM". Casting magic stone. Lupe moves forwards as well, staying 10 ft to the east of Milo. He bares his teeth and growls, readying and attack.
Milo moves forward with the torch adding a 20' radius of light as he moves away from the campfire 12'. Being just under 40' from the edge of the ravine, it still cannot be seen. Lupe moves up with Milo, staying on his right. Nothing is seen, only heard. A song, off in the distance.
