"Unlike most folk" Bildrath responds to Tio's disgust with his pricing. "I spend my time procuring items for sale. It is a very painstaking and time-consuming process. No one so far in this village takes the time or makes such an effort. If they did there might be some competition and the prices would be less than they are now. But since I have no competition nor anyone making an effort to do the work, I can charge for the value of my work." Ismark can be seen glancing about, his nervousness showing from the exchange. "If you do not wish to do business then, by all means, take yourself elsewhere. I have a business to run." Bildrath finishes and returns to drinking from a small cup set before him.
Gimblecasts Detect Magic and glances around the store. He finds no items with magical qualities in the store.
Gillainlooks about and does find a vial that has a starburst symbol on it, The symbol of St. Cuthbert. The liquid inside leads Gillain to believe this is a vial of Holy Water but the price is 10 times what it would cost her back home.
“As you wish, Bildrath,” says Gimble, preparing to leave, but handing the copper to anyone who wishes to stay and make a purchase.
OOC: Our treasure is quite portable, with the possible exception of the 60 gp worth of copper...who wants to buy something with thousands of copper pieces from this a$$hole?

Gillain looks over the holy water for a moment (before noticing the tag that’s with it, asking ‘250gp’), … She puts the vial back carefully.
”Well, I’m done here I think”, she says aloud to everyone.
And more to the party, but not trying too hard to be quiet, she says, “Perhaps we should hold on to our treasures for now then. See what we can get for them elsewhere”.
And then privately to the party (either at a whisper or back out in the street), “If people are used to these prices, if we can find another buyer we need only charge 9x-the-going-rate to be competitive!”.
Ban peruses the items, but much like Tio, she baulks at the pricing. Instead of purchasing, she keeps to herself with her hood up and hangs out near the door ready to leave.
Bob peruses the shop with a buyer's critical eye, raising his fluffy brows occasionally, humming going "aaaah" as he goes from item to item. He seems to examine just about every piece of merchandise in the mercantile while the others do their own business, and finally comes to stand in front of the proprietor with a cheery smile. "Oh, I don' need anythin', I live off th' land! Gold's fer lookin' at an' admirin', so far as Bob Beezly's concerned!"
The party, dismayed by the costs inside the mercantile, leaves. Ismark looks apologetic to the group. 'I am sorry."he tells them. "Bildrath is not a good example of the people of this village but, he can provide items that few can get."
Ismark pauses then says, "I would make amends at my father's home, though it may not be much due to the circumstances."
DM: unless there are any objections, Ismark will lead the party to the Home of the Burgomaster.
Ismark leads the party out of the Mercantile and turns south, walking along the unkept cobblestone road. The morning air is cool and a sheen of dew covers everything making the cobblestone damp and slippery. As the party walks along, they spot bare footprints here and there in the exposed dirt where cobblestones are missing. The party travels approximately 240 ft. from the mercantile and comes to the end of the cobblestone road. The wind picks up around the party as they see standing before them the Burgomaster's Mansion:
It is a weary-looking mansion that squats behind a rusting iron fence. The iron gates are twisted and torn and the right gate has been cast aside and lies on the ground, while the left swings lazily in the wind. The gate swings back and forth, squealing and clanging with mindless precision. Thick weeds choke the grounds and press with menace upon the house itself. Yet against the walls of the mansion, the growth has been trampled down creating a path that encircles the derelict-looking residence. As the party gets closer they can see heavy claw markings have stripped away the once-beautiful finish of the exterior walls and great black marks, scorched spots from fire, mar the mansion walls. Not one pane or shard of glass remains in any of the windows. Each one has been boarded up and has the same clawed marks and charring as the mansion exterior. Etched into the wood of those boards one can make out the image of a sword."
Ismark turns to the party. "This is my father's home," he says. There is a sadness in his voice that can be felt by everyone as he utters those words.
Ban entertains herself on the way, jauntily hopping along the cobblestones and testing her foot size in comparison to those in the dirt. When the group comes to the mansion, she thinks of a witty one liner but opts to nod due to Ismark's solemn tone.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gillain stops at the threshold marvelling at the imposing house, “My good man, Ismark!.. This house… it looks like it’s withstood a siege!…”.
”The gates, torn asunder!… the scratches and scorch marks!… … Yet nothing seems to have gotten through, into the house?…. Are you and your family in danger? Are you okay?… or was this from years ago?…”.
She wanders slowly forward towards the house itself, examining the metalwork fence, the weeds in the garden, the trampled perimeter of the building and the scratch and scorch marks, trying to piece together, from her battlefield knowledge what kind of attack may have happened here…

Looking over what is before her, the path, claw marks, charred places, and overall damage, Gillan gets the impression that the mansion was under siege and it appears that this didn't happen just once but over and over.
"No, nothing has gotten through, but not for their lack of trying," Ismark says. Ismark turns and looks at the mansion. It is then that the party notices the weariness and fear that has taken its toll on the son of the Burgermaster. Ismark's eyes are ringed with lines that come with the lack of sleep. His shoulders slouch, his clothing is disheveled and marked with soot, and it appears he could fall over at any moment. "Last night was the first night he hadn't sent them to try and take her," he says. "Zombies, other undead, and great wolves have been his army to siege this place at night. He has not succeeded so far but we have paid a horrible price, one we may never recover from." Ismark pauses for a moment then and motions to the party while taking steps towards the mansion. "Come, Ireena will be waiting for us."
Bob nods slowly, expression grim, at the explanation. "No need to tell us who is behind this travesty. I've got a few guesses," he says with a dry, humorless laugh. As they turn toward the mansion, he walks up behind Ismark and places a gentle hand on his back, giving him a pat that carried all the warmth of his cozy home under the hill. "Regardless, we've sorted out mansions full o' beasties afore!"
Gillain is visibly troubled by the scene around her, and kind concern shows on her face for Ismark. “That sounds like an almost unbearable terror… Lead the way, and tell us how we might help”.
She’ll gladly be lead inside to meet this Ireena and hear more of what’s been happening here.
”Indeed, Bob, it will be a nice change of pace to have the monsters on the outside this time, I expect,” says Gimble. To Ismark, he says, “I begin to see why you might wish to be gone from here, as long as there is a place of greater safety elsewhere.”

Ismark leads the party to the front door of the mansion. It has sustained more damage than the rest of the exterior walls and the party can see where it has been rebuilt and reinforced on more than one occasion. Ismark knocks on the door in a distinct pattern. A few moments later the voice of a woman calls out from the other side of the door. "Whose there?" she asks. "Ireena, It's me Ismark." he responds. "And I have brought friends to help." he looks back to the party as he adds the last part. Immediately the party can hear several latches and bolts being released. The door swings open and the face of a young beautiful human woman with auburn hair peers out from behind the door. Ismark smiles at Ireena. "I have brought them to help escort you to Vallaki." The party is invited to follow Ismark in and once inside Ireena is quick to shut and bolt the door behind them. The interior of the mansion is well furnished yet the fixtures show signs of great wear. All the windows are boarded up and the party notices protection charms are etched into the boards on each window and there hangs a holy symbol in each room.
"I will not leave until father receives a proper burial," Ireena says as she walks past the party and moves ahead of them, walking into a room to the west of the hall. It is then that the party notices the smell of wilted flowers and the faint odor of decay.
Gillain looks around at her companions, then follows Ireena through into the room west of the hall, with her.
As the odor of decay hits her nose, she looks about. Does she see this ‘father’, or anyone, or anything else, that the odor might be coming from?
If she sees the father or a body or something, she will try to reach out with her senses using Divine Sense (to detect the presence of undead, celestials or fiends, and desecrated or concentrated objects or ground).
She will make sure to at least glance at the father, Ireena and Ismark, while her senses are heightened…
