"There is of course loose ends," Shayne agrees with Elderan. "Talking animals, the wolves haven't exactly been dispatched... But the children have indeed been saved and nobody is paying anyone to do anything more than that. Indeed, nobody paid for that. Mind you, I am just passing time while I am stuck in the frozen wasteland."
"No need to talk around it, this place is a shithole. We've been losing people for years, and this damn cold isn't helping," one of the men says grimly.
"But you brought our kids back, and it seems like you've bought us some time without the wolves hovering over us. We do thank you for that."
Elderan gives Ines a nod of his head indicating respect for the thoughtful question- "Yes Ines, good question, and does the cold coincide with the talking wolves and other strangeness? Seems likely that all this somehow connects."
Whispering quietly to Shayne- "Fear not my friend, we will find our coin, but not here I think. Look at these folk, do you really want what little they have? I have found that mystery often leads to gold and a good story, eh?" with this last he gives a small smile and moves forward to listen for any responses the townsfolk may have for his questions.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Of course, of course," Shayne agrees. He'll clasp Elderan around the shoulders briefly, then pat him on the back as they both move in to listen to any information the old timers of the village share. "Just worried about our bellies, not our vaults. Though I suppose there are stories to be told of starvation and frostbite as well as of dragon's..."
Shayne will use the friendly touching and walking together as cover for his attempt to pickpocket his companion.
If successful: Shayne will laugh and toss the coin purse back to him. "Besides, there's always ways to get coin if that is all one is after..."
If Unsuccessful: Shayne will laugh and put his hands up in surrender. "You're good, my friend! Very on your toes! I'll have to keep that in mind... See though? Tis my lack of skill with such which makes me try to earn coin honestly... more or less."
Rock waits for the answer to the last question, interested to know if someone in this town slew the giant. he doubts it, otherwise the kids wouldn't have been in the place any longer. Meanwhile he is listening to the stories told by the people, and trying to learn of any further aid he can give this place, or if he should travel onward to deal with this wizard.
"Yes, Rock like to hear this thing." Rock speaks up again, after hearing one of his companions ask about the wizard again. "Rock would like to hear about wizard and what is issue with that spellcaster..."
"Rock go and find out about wizard tomorrow." Rock says with a wave of one hand. "Travel to next village and see what know about wizard issue. Rock and his friends here take care of this thing, no problem." He nods to the others with him, clearly considering them friends.
Sleep. Break our fast. Swap one icy tundra for another and hunt a wizard. Shayne has heard of worse plans. If we have lodgings already, Shayne shall retire to his. If not, he will ask after obtaining such...
Easthaven seems like a better place to spend some time than the Hole to Elderan. "Easthaven then. But you still owe me a trip to Bryn Shander Rock." Gives Rock a slap on the back. "Now where can I find a bed and a pile of blankets?"
After a nights sleep Elderan will be ready to move on.
"I see, and do you know who we could ask? About the wizard, I mean."
"I don't. You might just have to go to Easthaven and find out for yourselves."
You would know that Easthaven is to the northeast of Dougan's Hole, and that you would pass through a town called Good Mead on the way there. Good Mead is about 4 hours on foot from Dougan's Hole, and Easthaven is roughly five more hours from there.

Another of the men responds, after a few seconds of silence: "Well, it ain't exactly a pile of blankets, but one of us could probably put you all up in a barn for the night. We would normally be storing food in those barns, but, you know..." He points an index finger at the sky and points it all around, suggesting that the perpetual winter might play a role in that.
“A barn is good enough for Rock.” Rock says with a nod of thanks. “We go to do this thing tomorrow then.” He says to his companions. Rock would accept the barn for the night’s rest and be ready to head out in the morning.
"Wouldn't be the first time I have slept in a barn and probably won't be the last." As Elderan gathers his stuff to head off for the night he checks for his coin purse for the 8th time with a look at Shayne with a small laugh, apparently he is not the only light-fingered companion.

"We are glad to help. So this cold isn't normal? How long has it been like this?"
(I'm going to be chicken and just go with fixed)

The men look at each other, thinking. "It's been about two years? Just one day winter started and it hasn't stopped since."
"We don't know nothing about no giant. Like, we know they're around, but they keep to their own and so do we."
"What can you tell us about this wizard?"

The man that mentioned the wizard shrugs. "I dunno anything beyond that. Just there's a wizard problem that needs solving."

"I agree. A barn is more than enough. We can't ask these poor souls for more." Ines would turn in and get some sleep to be ready for the morning.
