Looking around carefully, Bayard joins them and sits down, speaking softly, "We came up with a couple names of people to check into. Alverto and Kornel, one could be the mysterious ferryman."
Allorian joins the group at their table. "Always good to collect some names. This is the second time we have heard the name Kornel. Someone told us to ask him about Old Town. About the poachers, we were told that the Mermaid was the place to go for black market goods. Could be we find Dreslis there. Would they be killing the frogs for some rare organ to sell on the black market?"
Caliban adds in "as disturbing as that sounds it could be. I have heard rare ingredients are used with some magics and spells. Of course, it could be people just like the taste of frog."
Bayard shrugs and gives Xarrut and Allorian a sarcastic grin, “Who knows why aristocrats do what they do. The guy said they were dressed in fine clothes weren’t they? Probably just looking for some sport.”
Allorian smiles back with a wicked grin- "Well then, what do you say we go and find some sport ourselves? Drinks at the Mermaid in hopes our quarry shows up. But, we need to decide what we are going to do with these men if we find them. We can't just barge into the Mermaid and start killing customers if they are there. Who is in charge of this town anyway?"
"Barman! I apologize, but can you remind me your name? Is there any law in this town? Anyone who enforces or oversees disputes or conflict?"
Back to talking to the group- "Well, I see three avenues of pursuit, first we can all just go to sleep and take a boat ride with Brue's father tomorrow to scout the coast. Next we can go to the Mermaid and look for trouble. Or lastly, we find this Kornel and see what he knows. What do you all think?"
Bayard perks up at the mention of drinks, and nods to the last part, “I think, if there’s going to be violence, it’d be better if it was outside of the town.”
Caliban offers to the gorup, "How about we go to the Mermaid and see what comes up. We may find Kornel there. Regardless we get some sleep after that and get up early to catch Kornel at the docks if we don't see him a the Mermaid. After that, we get a boat and go take an excursion to see what comes of it."
The bartender replies to Allorian and says "I'm Volven. As you may have noticed, the town is divided roughly in half, with the southern half where the longshoremen live and work. The northern half of the town is where the fisherman work. Here, in the southern part of the town, Demzic Stiralmo, the head of the teamster's guild, and Jamfael Koris are the law. Jamfale is the representative of Manzar family here in town. As you probably know, the Manzar's control shipping in Gillesburg and here in Alderey. In the north, Rhazor is the lead, although he will talk with Kevril, the local priest, when discipline needs to be dealt out. This is a quiet village. Other than the occasional drunken fight, there isn't much in the way of trouble here."
"Hmm, thank you Volven. Where would we find Jamfael? I imagine he would be at the docks somewhere during the day."
((how much would I know about the Manzar family?))
"Xarrut, any dealings between the Manzar family and your own? If the trouble with the poachers comes to blows I want the controlling noble family on our side."
Bayard turns to Caliban, signaling to the bar tender for another round, "That sounds like noble business to me. Why don't we order another few rounds while they go noble, and you can tell me about growing up in the church?"
Caliban turns to Bayard. "There is not much to really say. My mom could not afford to keep me after my father was sent to prison so off to the church I went. I was feed, clothed, and provided shelter but I paid for it by doing chores. I helped in the kitchen, swept, and the worst part took out the chamber pots. But it was not all bad. I got to learn how to fight and was lead by some great people that help guide me to be the man I am today. I never wanted to be a priest or cleric but that does not mean I cannot do some good with what I can do." Caliban takes a drink and then looks are Bayard "are you trying to convert me or something?"
Bayard laughs, "I'm not really a priest, and certainly not one like that. I'm more interested in protecting those who follow my god's teachings, whether they follow him or not, and punishing those who violate them, such as pirates. I just asked for something to talk about. So you learned to fight in a temple?"
((I believe we are going to the Mermaid to scout out the situation? Do we have time to look for Jamfael before evening? I am guessing that is when we would go to the Mermaid.))
(if we have time) - "Xarrut, you up for some politicking? Might be a good idea to get the local noble power behind our efforts."
"Something to talk about? I can understand that. I did learn to fight at the temple. They where training clerics and paladins and I joined the mix. Some of the priest think I have a divine power to me. Something more than just a normal man. I am not certain I understand there meaning but maybe someday I will", Caliban shares with Bayard.

Allorian looks around suddenly and asks "anyone seen that dwarf? Tandal? He's so quiet I forget if he's around. Okay, we meet at the Mermaid after sunset? Xarrut, let's go see if we can find Jamfael. I want to put an end to this before we get stuck in this backwater for a year." Allorian grabs his stuff and heads for the door. He is heading to the warehouse first to see if Jamfael is there.

“Unlikely.” Xarrut chimes in disinterestedly.

"Jamfael's house is the big house located south of the Breaching Whale. He spends a lot of his time at the wharehouse on the beach next to the wharf."
OOC Both Allorian and Xarrut's families would have had dealings with the Manzar family.
