Assuming everyone in the party takes 1 days worth of rations, that leaves the party with 8 lbs of food and 8lbs of water (I’ll keep track in the resource doc).
And so, for the first time in a ten day or two, the party is able to sleep safely and soundly (I’ll assume everyone takes turn keeping watch).

Travel continues the next day, and about an hour or two after your first rest, you come into a small cavern. Standing about 50 feet away, you can see two large human sized fungi with thick brittle stalks and a large dome like head with large holes dotted across it.
Stool shows some apprehension and stops at the sight of the large mushrooms. He cocks his head curiously and looks expectantly to the rest of the party.
Syvis slowly approaches to see if they are moving or breathing perceptibly (or are carrying/holding anything or showing any other signs of sentience) or if they're just inanimate local flora that's confusingly roughly the size and shape of humanoids.
As Syvis approaches the large mushrooms, specifically within 30 feet, suddenly a loud and shrill shriek begins to fill the cavern, seemingly emanating from the mushrooms!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Voyage will immediately shoot an Eldritch Blast at one of the mushrooms hoping to somehow silence it. "We're going to bring the whole Underdark onto our heads unless we shut these damn things up!" She will try and yell over the cacophony coming from the cavern.
Syvis grits her teeth and covers her ears. She looks at Voyage yelling something unintelligible and responds, "I can't hear you but we need to silence these things before they call unwanted attention to us!" And she lets a crossbow bolt fly at the same target.
Both strikes from Syvis and Voyage make contact and the one mushroom immediately begins to shrivel as the shriek begins to soften. Thodek then pulls Syvis back from the 30 foot radius and the shriek slowly stops after about 15 more seconds.
Thodek: You recognize these mushrooms as shriekers. You know that these large mushrooms are relatively common in the Underdark and when a creature or light comes within 30 feet of it, it emits a shrill shriek.
What would you like to do?
(There is one more of the shriekers standing about 40 feet from the party that at the moment is silent.)
Should we assume we're passing *through* this cavern rather than stopping to look at the weird mushrooms on a trail spur off to the side? If so, is there room to get by while giving the shrieker an adequately wide berth? If not, are there any other paths or hidden tunnels? An off switch?
"What in the nine hells was that?" Nicholas asks from the back. The scene had passed so fast that he was unable to see exactly what happened, having only heard the terrible shrieks.

(Backtracking slightly, Thodek would have turned his remain spare chain shirt and shortsword into 6 more bars of gold.)
Thodek quickly explains what he knows of the creatures, "It's possible they mark the edge of something's territory, and likely they have drawn unwanted attention, we should move on as quickly as possible, but be quiet and very alert to anything coming to investigate."
"My apologies. It seems I have inadvertently tripped some sort of ecological alarm. Unless you all would prefer to wait and witness what follows, I would suggest we move quickly and quietly through the passage over here to put as much distance between us and these shriekers as possible before whatever they were put here to alert arrives."
If there is no objection from the group, Syvis starts sneaking into the offshoot passageway.
Voyage looks at Thodek confused as Syvis marches down the corridor, as the elf's boots echo all throughout the cavern.
"But....these shriekers can detect light or people? Why don't we shoot them with bolts and arrows? A few hits from distance solves that problem. Syvis, we don't need to..."
She reaches out for the elf, but too late. "Ach, that one has the patience of a sea storm. And the same amount of grace, apparently."
She looks around, hoping that they hadn't attracted too much attention. As she does this, her trail curves around her protectively.
"Perhaps we should take down the other one anyway? At least that would confuse anyone that is drawn here by the sound," Nicholas suggests as he makes ready to continue their journey.

Voyage peers around in the dark, and seeing nothing will scowl. "Thodek is right. At this point, having an alarm behind us might be the only thing that saves us from whatever beasties are going to descend upon us."
She walks behind them creeping as silently as possible.
Cailean tilts his head as he considers. "If they're used to such sights due to being native, then our pursuers may not step closely enough to the thing to give us the warning. I agree that we should move quickly away from this place, before any who overheard the shrieks arrive to investigate."
His eyes flick briefly back the way they had come, and he takes a deep cleansing breath as he moves to continue onward.

Voyage: As you quietly walk to follow Syvis, suddenly, a large blast of steam blows upwards from a small crack underneath your foot. Please make a DC 12 dexterity Saving Throw, taking 7 fire damage on a fail or half as much on a successful one (round down).
