As one of the zombies closes with Kanlos, the skermisher fades away from it, stepping back and raising his bow.
Xerronios
With a zombie right next to him, Xerronios stabs it with his rapier, then slashes it with claws. Both strikes hit home, puncturing and slicing into zombie flesh. The zombie seems not to notice.
Markos
Seems to resist the angelic figures aorund Io, taking damage from it still though. (Saved vs Spirit Guardians.) Casting a spell, Markos makes a fist form in the air near him. The fist then shoves into Io Forceful Hand. The hand attempts to push a creature within 5 feet of it in a direction you choose. Make a check with the hand’s Strength contested by the Strength (Athletics) check of the target. If the target is Medium or smaller, you have advantage on the check. If you succeed, the hand pushes the target up to 5 feet plus a number of feet equal to five times your spellcasting ability modifier. The hand moves with the target to remain within 5 feet of it. Hand athletics: 18. If failure, then Io is shoved 25 feet away from Markos to P9. If Io is shoved, then Markos stays put. If he is not shoved, then Markos will move. Io, please give your athletics check before we move onward.
The figure seems injured now, though looks to have a decent amount of fight left in them. Now though a zombie stands directly next to you, and Io was just knocked back across the cavern by a massive fist, which is also just south of you, past the zombie. Kanlos stepped back to a better position to use his bow, while Xerronios struck at the zombie next to him. For now though, it is your turn to act...

Windlass tries to fight off her fear (does she get to roll to save against the fear effect at the end of her turn?) and looks through the scrum to the caster. She casts toll the dead on him for 4 necrotic damage on a failed WIS 16 save, more curious than anything else to see if this will work, and trying to help shake herself free of ineffective casting and a compulsion not to move closer to the mastermind of all this.
Action: toll the dead on Markos Move: none Reaction: wrath of the storm if the zombie in front of her hits her for 6 lightning damage
(The fear affect lasts until the end of your turn, then is done, no save needed.) Casting your spell, you see Markos wince as the bell tolls near him, though he appears to not take as much damage as would be expected. (Resistant to Necrotic damage.) The fist remains though, as Markos manages to continue to concentrate on the spell.
Lair Action
Markos pulls on power from the alter, and the darkness, which Windlass had destroyed with her fire strikes earlier, comes flowing around him. It leaves him slightly more mysterious-looking, but does not really block view of him in any way. (Casts False life at 5th level for 23 temp hp.)
Io
Io was just knocked 20 feet away from the figure by the alter, and has zombies close to him now. A large fist hovers in front of him, between him and Markos. The fist does not fill its space, but you will need to make a athletics check if you wish to move through that space. Windlass just injured Markos further with a tolling of a bell, and Markos as reacted by pulling in protective shadows around himself. It is your turn to act. (Kanlos, I will resolve your action once I have Io's action.)
No update to the map, so not posting a new one here.

Io was not expecting to be shoved back so far by a giant fist but he can still make this work. He points to a spot next to Markos and his familiar whirlwind of ghostly scythes appear, slashing into the shadows that surround Markos. He notes the apparent resistance to Necrotic damage that the cultist has and seeing Markos regain his protective shadows makes him think that the cultist needs to be focused down. Yet he is sadly not in a position to do anything else other than causing even more tolling around Markos and the zombie next to him. The spectral guardians meanwhile still fly around Io and harry any enemies near him.
BA: Spiritual Weapon at K9 Spiritual Weapon attack vs Markos: 23 Dmg: 9 Force

Spirit Guardians is still up. Any Enemies that start their turn within 15ft of Io, or enter within 15ft of him for the first time in a turn take: 16 Radiant damage. WIS15 for half.

Io
The spiritual blades strike Markos, depleting the shadows he just formed around him a bit, then the bell tolls. Markos seems unaffected this time, while the zombie nearest him stumbles, nearly going down, but then managing to stay up at 1 hp. The angelic figures continue to swirl around Io.
Kanlos
Taking aim, you shoot Markos again, the last of the darkness fading away, and the arrow driving deep into his chest, barely missing his heart. Markos stares at the shaft quivering in his body, then glares up at the group. "You will pay, even if you defeat me I will return and hunt you, all of the days of your lives. All come to my lords halls, none can escape him."
Zombies
#4 and #3 both attack Xerronios Attack: 11 Damage: 4 Attack: 20 Damage: 7
#2 attacks Windlass... Attack: 6 Damage: 3 All three of these zombies are attacked by the angelic figures, radiant flashes of power showing where each of the three zombies took full damage from the spirit guardians.
The other three zombies line up in front of Markos, giving him some cover from further ranged attacks.
Xerronios
Markos seems on his last leg here, very wounded and breathing in bloody gasps that has blood bubbling from his lips. It is likely that Kanlos's last shot punctured a lung. Two zombies just attacked you though, and a wall of zombie flesh moved to guard Markos. It is your turn to act...
Bonus Action: Uses his last inspiration die to activate Unsettling Words and give Markos a minus 6 on his next saving throw. Action: Cast Dissonant Whispers at level 3 on Markos. WIS save DC 14 or take 15 damage and have to use his reaction and move as far away as his movement or terrain permits. Half on save and no move needed.
Giving a performance that has everyone's hearts beating a bit faster, Xerronios casts a spell, sending a mental attack at Markos. Markos crumples in place, falling to the ground as blood runs from his ears. At the same moment all of the zombies fall with him, becoming inert and just another corpse.
Combat is over. What do you do now? Of interest, there is a fancy mask set on top of the alter.

Windlass barely managed to escape harm after that zombie hit her harm, her arcane ward depleted completely, for now. The lightning that lanced out in response barely seemed necessary after the necromancer went down and the zombies crumbled. "Everyone okay? That could have been bad."
She slowly moves around, looking closely at the room and its former inhabitants. Her eye is looking for valuables of course, but also identifying marks or items on the corpses that family members might be able to recognize.
Io nods, "Kanlos is correct. The Returned are not meant to walk the earth again among the mortals..." He says this but the words feel hollow. When Io usually talks, he has a certain confidence in his own words. If nothing else he himself believes what he is saying or that his own reasons for saying something is justified. Here however, his words lack that confidence. He says this but it sounds like he is unsure.

Windlass
Windlass doesn't find too much of interest. Markos does not seem to have cared much about valuables. In total you find 43 GP worth of coinage on Markos and the undead bodies. The corpses are intact and don't seem overly damaged. if villagers were to come here, they would easily be able to recognize their relatives and friends. None of these corpses seem to be Returned though.
Kanlos
You would notice the lack of Returned bodies. From your experience you would suspect Markos had any Returned bodies destroyed, to send their souls back where they belong.

Movement was a reaction on the Zombie's turn. The attack was just posted out of order and doesn't happen until Kanlos's turn.

Xerronios... Need your action still...
Xerronios left hand strums a tune on his lute as he avoids the zombies' attacks. It's a familiar one to the others, unsettling and strangely haunting. "Markos, you buffoon, you're as nutty as a lune!" He strums some more, the tune sliding easily into a different rhythm, at once both smooth and dissonant, "But I know your mind, my sad and lonely friend. You yearn, your hope, you seek an end. Here have we come, here we shall stay, that for you that end, grant it we may!"

Io feels very conflicted about this fight. He steps forward and places 1 GP coin in Markos' mouth to give to Athreos.

Kanlos moves forward to join Io by the corpse and whispers a quiet prayer. (Gentle Repose from his Piety feature.)
"I am unharmed, but I don't know about ok. We had to stop his extremist solution, but the problem is still here."
Xerronios looks a little winded. "I'm good," he says in deep, rumbling voice. He turns to Kanlos. "What problem? The Returned?"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Kanlos nods, "It wasn't right to massacre the entire island, but Erebos and Athreos both oppose the Returned's existence."
Io nods, "Kanlos is correct. The Returned are not meant to walk the earth again among the mortals..." He says this but the words feel hollow.
