Backstory: Oren began life with his single father who took him to the monastery to try to give him a better life. He is a very laid-back individual which some of the master Monks take as lack of motivation for his studies, but that is just not the case. He was passed from one master to another until he landed with his current, who is a hard man but sees Oren's potential if given the opportunity to realize it. He was sent out into the world from his monastery to gain experience with common folk and the world at large.
Hi @ArchitecturallyInclined, I’ve never played Ghosts of Saltmarsh. I’d be excited to try! I’m reasonably new but a fast learner! Feel free to check out my recent posts to see if our play styles would gel. I hope so! And see my character concept below:
Background: Outlander Backstory: Kat prefers the wilds, to the civilised world. Even as a child, she would sneak out of her lessons to explore the nearby woods. As soon as she was old enough she joined as an apprentice-ranger, with the city guard, but even that couldn’t hold her attention for long. She learned some valuable skills, but soon she chose a life far outside of the city, living in the deep forests and moving from region to region, honing her skills and offering her hunting and tracking services wherever they were needed. She quickly gained a reputation far and wide as the person to find if you needed a guide, or something found that was lost in the woods. Still restless though, she now seeks her next challenge...
((I’m happy to tweak anything here to fit the world. And love developing deeper backstory as the game unfolds and in reaction to other party members)).
Class (including desired subclass if applicable): Rogue (1) Fighter (1)
Background: There's something inexplicable but misleading about Fintan Alasadiar, perhaps it's her mysterious sense of justice or perhaps it's simply her gentleness. But nonetheless, people tend to wish to get to know her better, while learning as much about her as possible. She's daring, quiet and punctilious with a side that leans towards a ambitious, stubborn and impartial personality. But this is all just a facade, a mechanism to deal with her tormented past. She was born and grew up in a poor family in a small village on the coastline, until she was about 10 years old, but at that point life took a turn for the worst.
She lost her brother in a pillage and was forgotten by everybody, including the men who burned her home to the ground . With the help of a suspicious friend she had to survive in a relentless world. But with her capability and bravery, she managed to start a new life through dueling. Thrown to the wolves, quite literally after escaping from the Blood Sparrows, Fintan was blacklisted into the rogue lifestyle. She is skilled in double bladed battle and known to travel the countryside finding refuge in monasteries, harboring a deep distrust in other elves.
Down on her luck since that age, she has traveled throughout the nation, alone save for the lone help of a monk who tragically died after sheltering her. His name was Ghatrix, a dwarven man who taught her in the language of Celestial. She clung to the lifestyle of his, turning it into a redemptive pattern of rituals she does each day to escape the shame that lingers in the darkness of her night. Prone to fits of unexplained rage for being unable to find her brothers' killers, she has taken to the practice of meditation though it rarely helps her stay calm. With a new chance at life,be it a downtrodden one, she now works tracking the people of the past a trail that has lead her to the mystery that is SaltMarsh. By doing so, she hopes to shed the memories of the past and finally find joy and love for life she has never had.
Backstory: Born as a half-elf, Eletha had very little memory of her elven mother. She remembers the soft gentle hands caressing her cheek; the calm, gentle voice reading a bedside story; the warmth liveliness when she leaned down and snuggled against her mother’s belly - the time she first felt her little brother moved and kicked. The happy memory stopped there. Her mother shortly left after her brother Alrick was born, without saying a word. Following suit, it was nights and nights her father came home drunk, disheveled, spitting and cursing, smashing anything he saw in sight. Eletha would hide in a corner, holding her crying younger brother tightly in her arms, pressing his head against her chest, just like her mother used to do. As she gently hummed the lullaby to her brother, broken up, out-of-tune, choked up and terrified, she closed her eyes waiting for the nightmare to end.
After her father fell asleep (or rather, passed out), she would sneak out and collect his empty bottles, selling them for scrap change. When she was 13, she finally saved up enough money on the side, took her little brother, seven-year-old at the time, and ran away from their abusive home. She bought her way onto a smuggler’s ship, and escaped far away. Over the years, she wondered from job to job, ship to ship, she was willing to learn anything, and a fast learner she was. She quickly became familiar with the way of the sea, grasped the art of sweet words and fast hands, learned how to gain other’s trust, and how to use it to line her own pockets. While spending more time of his life on water than on land, Alrick developed a thick interest towards arcane studies. Deciding to support him through his education, to give him the life she never had chance to have, she set out her travels the small town of Saltmarsh, where she heard mystery treasures were to be found.
The young half-elf stands below average just barely over five feet, weighing about a hundred pounds. She doesn’t have much fat, but looks quite ample due to her small frame. With her soft and willowy figure, Elona moves with legerity of a cat, light steps and effortless, almost in a melodic, leggiero fashion. Over her supple posture she dons her hand-made leather armour, tied securely around her slim waist. The dark patchy brown of the leather looks washed out and faded, but one could tell it was made tenacious enough to last. With sharp daggers strapped on her thigh and two shortswords hanging from her belt, the bracers she wears on her legs and ankles expose the smooth shape of her agile body.
Eletha takes most of her features after her Elven mother, with her porcelain skin, long curly golden locks draped over her bare shoulder, and pointy ears that sits quite low on her small face. Her round blue eyes reflecting the lights as clear as a pond of spring water in scorching dessert weather, paired with an overly sweet smile on her face, she always seems unbothered by the world, innocent and wide-eyed naive, like a well-kept precious doll nestled in a pile of little pieces of curly golden straws that is her soft blonde hair. To most people, she could easily pass as a full elf by appearance, but to her - more of a curse than blessing. As she looks too much like her mother, her father often took the rage out on her. Thus intentionally deviating her manners away from elves, Eletha is for sure lively, passionate and quick-witted.

Backstory (be as detailed as you like):
Storms had always excited Leif. Growing up in a fishing village along the Azure Sea gave Leif plenty of opportunities to enjoy a good squall. His fascination with storms fit well with his lively and rambunctious personality. Leif was always eager to set out with his dad's crew and ran around the boat with boundless energy, willing to take on whatever job. This eventually earned him the nickname "Sparky," which proved somewhat prophetic on his 16th birthday.
Leif and his friends went out onto his father's boat for a bit of joyriding, despite the storm approaching in the distance. While some of his friends wanted to turn around, Leif assured them that he and the gods of the sea were on the best of terms. He and his family had always been pious, making offerings to the various deities. Shortly after, on that fateful night, Leif was struck by lightning. Once would be enough to kill most people. But he remained standing, eyes wide. The second lightning bolt should surely have ended him. However, as the third bolt struck, he crackled with energy and redirected the lightning out across the waters.
Following this incident, his devout parents thought he had some kind of supernatural blessing and took him to the temple of Aerdrie Faenya. While the clerics were helpful in directing some of his newfound magical abilities, Leif had little patience for the religious life. He instead followed the call of the high seas, waiting to see what direction the winds might blow.

Vorcyganz is a bit unusual, but, so are many folk. Her unusualness lies in her fingers and her ability to do things with the 'chemik'. Making love potions means bread and wine, explosive seeds (and possibly powders) result in real coin, at least to the right customer. She is not so much a fighter as a 'fixer', that is she fixes problems and aspires to leave no trace. To put it simply, she likes to stay in the background but, if push comes to shove, someone might get an explosive seed stuck in a sensitive spot.
Vorcyganz does not suffer fools lightly and that is perhaps her greatest failing, for she can be very vocal in her opinions, sometimes at the more inappropriate moments. That is what got her in trouble with her community's elders, whom she characterized as 'woobly-kneed, jewelless, mule-headed fools so full of it that their lips are attached to their sphincters..." Well needless to say, that did not go over very well and caused her to be ostracized and finally outcast for being a public nuisance. So it was that she found out she really did not like all the expectations, restrictions and general batscat most folk willingly put up with. Not only that but, the world was a big place and there was plenty to do that she found satisfying, mostly because she chose to do whatever it was herself. And, she did not have to become some fools 'mate'! Oh, and she plays chess and, did she mention, can mix up some pretty cool potions?

Rhuc is a scout often hired on ships traversing the inland seas. With his flight he can easily see the waves or coast ahead and report his findings back. Being able to fly above the ship and rain arrows down on marauding pirates has also come in handy a time or two. Leaving the peaks of his childhood while still not considered quite an adult Rhuc found a love for the sea in his early journeys. The endless skies over the water, and the tolerant attitudes of most sailors helped him feel at home at last.
