Kilmus reaches out and helps the teens out of the cage, checking them over quickly to ensure this isn't a trap of some sort. (Investigation? 11).
'You're gonna want to do something about that one there before he falls over, you are'. The chiding voice of his grandmother rings clear through the icy cavern. Kilmus turns to look at Phineas's bloodied hands and realizes not all of that blood came from the Kobold. 'Here, my little friend, let me see if I can help you'. As the shepherd reaches out to touch the ranger, the barest glimmer of an old woman can be seen extending out from Kilmus' form. Her spectral hands sink into the halfling a moment before the paladin's touch Phin's wounds. (10 points healing form lay on hands)
The villagers likely haven't ever seen a Kenku, but Mica will approach and hold his flames near the two, attempting to warm them up. He reflects Phineas's words of wanting to head back to Dougan's Hole.
Silja and Finn are reunited with their mother, Hilda, who has been sick with worry but is overjoyed to see them alive. Hilda married her older brother, who was a hunter. He passed away a few years ago but left behind some magic boots he won from a wayward adventurer he bested in a drinking contest. Hilda gives you her husband’s boots of the winterlands as a thank-you.

"Well those boots look nice..." Rak would say eyeing them closley. He would then turn and look to Mica. "Can you even wear boots?" He would ask before continuing. ""how do we decide who gets these... Should we put it to a vote or do we all just want to agree that I should have them?" The gith would ask with a grin.
Kilmus would look at the boots and then at the pathetic shivering bird-creature, then back to the hearty green-skinned cleric bundled in layers of fur, then back to the shivering half-naked bird skinned creature.
'It seems that our friend here is in need of more appropriate clothing. And those boots do indeed seem rather warm.'
Mica tentatively approaches Rak for the boots. He's not sure if boots are conducive to avian appendages, but he's more than glad to have them. I'm sure they can be attuned in one way or another. Of course, he won't go against Rak if he takes them - Mica's too scared of the green-skinned warrior.
The strange townspeople scared Mica, as did many things. He was, of course, concerned about the wolves attracting more villagers, but that wasn't his problem any more, and the parting comment of the winter wolf had left him shaken.
Mica will take out a map of Tentowns and suggest they find the most comfortable lodging available before returning to Good Mead and following the path to Bremen, making a stop at Easthaven if they deem the road to Bryn Shander too long for one stretch.
(Typing this from my phone during a meeting- I won't be able to post for today. Very Sorry for slowing the adventure down!)
As Mica gestures for the boots the githyanki would frown a bit.. pulling them closer and giving them another once over. His eyes would shift from the boots back towards the kenku. After a few awkward moments Rak would toss the set of boots to the sickly looking bird-man. "Fine.. take them. You still never got yourself any real winter gear. You're not useful if you're frozen solid." Rak would grumble as he crosses his arms.
When Mica pulls out his map and mentions lodging the green skinned cleric would grin. "Well I'm sure we could find a place here in town to sleep tonight. Who knows! We might even find some women willing to help keep us warm... from the looks of things we would probably be considered some of the best looking folks in town." Rak would grin as he slaps the kenku hard on the shoulder. "I would hope that saving a couple kids would at least earn us some free beers and a decent place to sleep" He would add as he looks back towards the town.
(No worries Qila, I appreciate you letting us know.)
As you decide your next plan of action in the inn you're staying at for the night, you notice something strange.
There are no light sources in this town, anywhere. You see a decree on the wall, it's very obvious, so you read it.
AURIL AND THE LOSS OF SUMMER
The desperate people of Ten-Towns, hoping to appease Auril so that summer can return to Icewind Dale, make sacrifices to the Frostmaiden on nights of the new moon. This is a new practice that started a little over a year ago, when it became clear that Auril was angry and summer would not be returning anytime soon. The town speakers have unanimously agreed to honor these practices, which they consider necessary evils, but would end them in a heartbeat if Auril were to be appeased or dealt with in some other way. The towns of Ten Town appease Auril in one of three ways: by sacrificing people, food, or warmth. In Dougan's Hole, no fires are lit between dusk and dawn, forcing locals to share body heat for warmth. Anyone who dares to light a fire is savagely beaten.
Once in the inn, Rak would take note of the darkness and make his way towards the inn keeper. "You dont happen to have any ruby dust for sale... You see were the ones that saved those couple kids from the giant wolves. Maybe you could point me in the right direction or of you are selling any.. could you maybe cut the hero's of Doug's hole a deal?" The gith would ask as he leans over the dark bar.
"Alright, Thanks." Rak would reply before stopping to read the notice on the wall. "Well shit. I guess we really will have to find some people to huddle togethernto keep warm.. not really what I had in mind" He would grumble.
Phineas looks about, pulling his furs tighter around him. "I think it be best we find some place to keep warm tonight," he says. "Then we make our way toward back to Good Mead and then on to our next location. We be no good to anyone if we freeze to death." Phineas begins looking about for a place for the group to stay for the evening. "Might as well cash in on our newfound glory."

As far as Mica can read, Light was not the issue, so much as flames were. Forgoing his traditional violet flames for another spell, he touches his jade gemstone, which emits similarly violet Light for everyone to see enough to get by. He sincerely hopes nobody 'ruthlessly beats him up' as the post alludes to. He wouldn't want to take out his patron's wishes on the townspeople that have been so kind to them.
He's thankful for Rak handing him the books, and in return, he passes up a similar jade raven carving he made back in Waterdeep. He wasn't sure how much the irascible green-skinned man would appreciate the gesture, but it took some of the sentiment of Mica's mind.
Cautiously putting the boots on, it takes a moment for the Kenku to adjust walking in shoes. He might need to modify them to be serviceable to his anatomy, but he gradually comes to accept his newfound resistance to cold, tentatively taking off the scraps of clothing he has until all that is left is a thin, black, sleeveless tunic. The featherless patches on his right arm has traveled around an inch up, beginning to spread onto his chest and lower neck. The arm hangs, mostly limp, at his side, and it swings back and forth as Rak slaps him on the shoulder. Mica didn't feel much in that arm anyways, but he pulls it back. It sometimes has a mind of its own.
"Free beers and decent places to sleep,"he reflects. For some reason, the gith was growing on Mica, and he felt the need to not disappoint him, pretty oblivious to the questionably insincere nature of Rak's interactions. "Help keep us warm?" he asks, hoping to sound earnest. He knew the boots would keep him warm, but still accompanies Rak to the inn.
Regardless, he felt a strange compulsion to investigate the kobold corpse he'd scrunched in his small sack. He knew what those feelings meant, so before he heads to sleep, he sits down in front of the kobold's skull, handing his disfigured arm a paring knife. Without thinking, it immediately sets to skinning and flaying the skull, despite Mica never knowing how to do it before. Mica was concerned with how the sickness was spreading, and more importantly, the increase in how much control the arm had. Once it is done, he takes the chain-like cord from his necklace's stone and transfers it to the top of the kobold's skull. Once complete, his arm returns to hanging limply at his side. He now has a new arcane focus, but he still pockets the jade raven he'd carved. It reminded him of better times.
Rak would take the Jade raven and look it over.. inspecting the craftsmanship and giving the kenku a small nod of approval. "Thanks. It's a better reward for our days work than fish and a pair of stinky old boots anyway... I would watch that you dont end up with some kind of foot fungus. Rak would reply as he slides the jade raven into his pocket.
at the inn, Rak would request a few beers before sitting at a table with his companions. "If I'm going to be sleeping with you folks.. I call little spoon... and I'm going to need a lot of beers first."
Kilmus settles in at the table with the rest of the companions, gratefully scooping up one of the mugs of mead from the table.
'Cold don't bother me much, nights out keeping watch with the flock could get pretty cold. Never as cold as it's been these last couple of years o'course, but cold is in some ways all the same - it hurts right up until it doesn't - then it kills you dead.'
Turning a bit in his seat, the bouncer looks over at the ranger 'You took the worst of it with those kobolds - you feeling any better my wee friend?'
Once he was sure that both his companions had suitably recovered from their encounter with the Kobolds, Kilmus would volunteer to take first watch for the night 'I'm not entirely sure I trust these villagers to keep us safe through the night. Clearly the wolves are more than a match for them and whatever kind of town guard they have. I suggest we split up and take watch shifts overnight.'
Phineas smiles at Kilmus. "Ah, jus a few more scars to impress the ladies," he quips, rubbing where he was stabbed but that had been healed. "We should take shifts. I'll take the second. And then we get on the road bright and early. We've some miles to cover."
