((OOC: thanks for the info. Sorry some more questions. It’s really just, how much can she grab? and how far can she move? But below is the detail. Thanks…
Ash’s intention was just to get to, and into, the trunk, grab what she could and get out. She didn’t plan to lift or drag the trunk.
From where she was could she go NW two squares to get in melee/diagonal with the trunk, hoist it open, grab some stuff and then head back one square SE? (full 30ft of movement used?).
Then the other question is, how much can she grab? She still has an action AND a Fast Hands bonus action (and she is a professional thief). Oh and maybe a free object interaction too?
Ideally she would just bundle everything up into the cloak and stuff it in her pack. It’s mostly small bits and bobs.
If she can only grab 1, or 2, or 3, etc, things, her preferences are these, in order of importance: cloak, scrolls, potions, gold, silver.
If she can grab it all with an action she would bonus-action-dash back out the door while keeping Korrik in sight. But if she can use her bonus action to grab more she’d do that instead.
Does that give you enough to piece together what she does?
Basically: move as little as possible towards the chest, grab all she can and move (and maybe dash away) keeping line of sight to Korrik at all times. She won’t leave him or lose sight of him.
Depending on what she can grab she might also shout to Korrik, “You find what you’re looking for?”, and depending on if anything is left in the trunk, either: “I’ve got everything here, let’s go!”, or “A few more bits over here!… come on let’s get a move on!”.
It's no problem about the questions! It's what makes it fun for me especially in these combat situations :D
Ok so it helps a lot that Ash is a professional thief. That being said, the ship is tilted 30 degrees and also moving randomly. You would have to open the box, take those moments to look at the stuff and then gather all of it in one turn. It's just a bad scene altogether in there with the water buckling the floorboards too, so I think given the number of items in the chest plus the coins (which are strewn about in the trunk), we're going to have to at least do some kind of check.
Ash, please roll a slight of hand check. This will determine how fast you're able to gather everything up.
Depending on the result, you may or may not have to use the bonus action to finish gathering everything. If you pass, the bonus will be used on the dash out of the room. If not, you'll be beside the chest but have gathered everything.
Unless Ash you only want to grab specific stuff and ensure the dash is used? I'd give 3 items in that case and then no roll. let me know
Actually, maybe do a roll regardless so we have something to use. Thanks!!
((Thanks. I think Ash would see how much she could grab… then reassess before either: dashing, or grabbing more. Does that make sense?
I totally LOVE and appreciate all the challenging factors at play here: the deck, the water, the noise, the approaching baddies. For me, in my head I’m thinking ‘this is what Ash does’! And in my head Ash is seeing this all in bullet-time lol. So I know we’re drawing out this one moment a bit, but I see that fitting the scene. For Ash this is make or break on the heist :-)
So if it’s okay with you, I’ll do a sleight of hand check, to mimic her grabbing what she can, then reassess. Is that okay?
And actually, if the coins are strewn about, loose, she’s not really thinking about taking those at all, they are getting paid well enough. (Unless she rolls really high of course!!). So… first roll, using her action (bonus still to come)…
((If that’s good enough to get everything, (or everything baring a few/half/all(?) the coins) then she’s good to go. Bonus-action-dash back up and out, but not so far to mean she loses sight of Korrik. Even if she only uses a bit of dash, she will get as far away from the monsters as possible but keeping Korrik in sight.))
The deck splinters, a little, under her feet. The monsters growl and hiss, over the roar of the sea, and the creak- and cracking- of the boat. Water slaps her face from nowhere. Her hair and gear are soaked and bedraggled. She looks almost demonic, wet: all angles and teeth. “Grrrah!…COME ON MAN!!… we HAVE to GO!!!… … Fork this cursed ship!… Fork it all!!…”.
((Yeah, but he wasn't hiding from them on the way in, and if whatever those nasty toothy boys are have finished snacking on the spiders, they may be looking for dessert!))

Ash, you're able to grab the cloak, both potions, both scrolls and a good handful of coins equaling 400gp and 125sp. You then dash back out of the room and sneak behind Ess while he's still there. You still have a good view of Korrik. (let me know if that's wrong positioning and I will retro move Ash!)
All monsters to take 2 bludgeoning damage from the thrashing tentacles this round at the start of each of their turns.
Nothing new to add as far as rules go for this round.
The creatures before Ess take their turns. They all take the damage. And difficult terrain.
One of those creatures now tries to get that door open up on the upper deck that is tied shut.
STR: 10
The door does not open for whatever is trying to open it.
Whoever tied that knot did a great job!
Ess's DEX save at the start of his turn. 12 and damage if fail 10 from tentacles.
Ess avoids the tentacles.
Ess sees the new monsters, sees Ash and Korrik grab whatever they grab, and he yells "AARRGGHHH!!! Toothy monsters!! Guys we have to go NOW!!! Please bro and Ashy I don't wanna die here! The ship is sinking! We've got the box, you've got your shite, please let's just GOOOOOO"
and he uses the dash action and bolts up the stairs up to the main deck with Ben.
The swarms take their damage, jump onto the toothy monsters and try to bite them.
Bites: 20 Damage: 12
Bites: 11 Damage: 13
One of the swarms gets a real good feast.
Ben is up! DEX save first, DC 10, if fail 3 damage from tentacles.
Depending on what she can grab she might also shout to Korrik, “You find what you’re looking for?”, and depending on if anything is left in the trunk, either: “I’ve got everything here, let’s go!”, or “A few more bits over here!… come on let’s get a move on!”.
((Sounds like Ash was successful? So more of a "Let's go"? Toothy boys might make it a non-issue, but wondering if Korrik's headed for the chest or headed for the door based on Ash's suggestion.))

((OOC: Definitely an ‘all done here let’s go!’, for sure!! In her considered view as a professional thief, and considering the final payoff, this chest/trunk is EMp-Ty!!!)) i.e. …
((Thanks, just wanted to make sure Korrik was making an informed decision when his turn comes around, and since Ash isn't up for a bit, wanted to draw Grwo's attention back to it!))
Two humanoid-sized bundles attached to the ceiling writhe as hundreds of tiny spiders swarm over them.
((Just wondering what Korrik would possibly have noticed as I wait for the toothy boys to go, but how would you describe this writhing? Like 'undulating mass of horrible roughly the size of a humanoid', or 'it's humanoid shaped too, and is probably a dude that got wrapped up in silk for dinner'?))
DEX Save: 15
Korrik sprints for the hatch!
((Movement of 35' + Dash for 35' = 70/2 = 35' of movement + Step of the wind 35'/2 = 52.5 ft of movement and high jump doubled to 6 ft. With his doubled jump from Step, and the ship listing to port, can he dash across the floor, leap up and kick off the port hull to try Acrobatics-ing up through the hatch? If not, and it's still Athletics, does a doubled jump get him anything?))

Yes I love it let's see the acro check instead of the athletics in this case which you've described.
Korrik skillfully kicks off the floor and vaults through the hatch up to the main deck and moves beside Ess. The rope slithers behind him and down the stairs, still attached to him and the mast below.
The humanoid spiders now take their turn, and their damage. One of them tries to open that door (again), but this time the other one is there to help.
STR check to open the tied door 14
Ben, Kay and Ess all notice that door trying to be forced open, but the rope is still holding it!
Ash is up! Need DEX save, DC 10, and damage if fail 7 from tentacles.
Ash uses her movement, and a bonus-action-dash, to follow Korrik ((60ft total / 2 = 30ft of squares = 6x squares?)). She uses her climbing skills to scale the stairs without a check. And she draws a dagger and uses her action to cut her rope… ((normal attack? Adv. due to inanimate object?))
Attack action on rope (adv.?): Attack: 15 Damage: 8

To Kay he yells,
"Hurry up Kay."
Bardic inspiration to Kay!
He moves out the door and says to Ess,
"Come along, you're going to pull me to the rowboat."
He will end up two north of where he is currently standing and will take a dodge action.
