When they arrive at the Church, Talion will wait retrace their steps to the cellar, then search as best he can for anything that Doru was hiding or things that might give a clue as to his likely next steps. He will enlist the help of Osgar in his efforts.
Investigation: 12
(( If Osgar can't help, he will ask for help from Erven ))
Erven lights a torch to give extra light despite his keen darkvision and proceeds with a search of the basement, helping Talion. In a methodical way he goes back and forth, up and down to search the entirety.

Everlie looks around as well, probably less gently than the others. Everlie pulls things out, tosses them aside, careless about not breaking anything or whether he makes a mess or not. “What we expect to find here anyway?” He asks the room in general. “Might help if I knew what I was looking for…”

There are all manner of things down here. The general sense you get is that putting a vampire down here was unplanned and anything down here has been left largely to the ravages of time. Extra pews, bunches of rotting herbs and incense, empty glass vials (some tinged with dark red substance) all can be found here.
You find the following items of interest: 2 healing potions an amulet with a picture of a woman and a young version of Donavich numerous piles of dessicated rats and rat skeletons written on the walls are evidence of Doru's madness, cursing Strahd for mutating him into what he is, numerous scratch marks flecked with dark blood stains, a bag full of teeth, and a weird misshapen doll with stitched mouth and eyes. On the back it is written "Is no fun, is no Blinksy!" In a loose block, you find a few sheathes of paper and a bone quill - perhaps from a rat. The paper has writing done in black but it's not ink from the look of it. Anyways, it's clear that it is written by Doru. It details his ordeal and ultimate transformation. Things you learn from this:
- Doru was part of a failed uprising against the Countess that ended up killing a lot of townsfolk - The uprising was organized and led by a mage in black robes from a faraway land - An epic battle between the Countess and the mage ensued, and in the battle, the mage was hurled over Tser Falls (Doru was also said to have died in the attack) - Strahd found Doru running for his life in the woods and consoled him, fed him, and rather than chastise him for failure stayed with him. She said she would give him a gift that might help him succeed one day. Strahd talked a lot about someone named Tatian and how his soul has been imprisoned in some Barovian's body, but one day, he and she would rule Barovia, as is their rightful destiny. - A few days later, Doru woke up in a shallow grave in the cemetery behind his father's church. He awoke....hungry. Luckily his father was able to use his power to get him into the basement. - Doru has survived for several years (though he doesn't really know how long) on rats and the newly dead. Donavich removes their blood just after death and gives it to Doru.
Erven takes the papers, the handwritten notes of Doru and brings them upstairs to show Onyx, Ismark and discuss Donavich. “He’s been draining the blood from corpses when he is “preparing” bodies and feeding it to that creature. That’s likely what he did with the Burgomaster as well. You two handle Donavich. We lost Doru, but you need to keep watch and make sure he doesn’t return to his lair.” Erven sets down the papers for them to review. “This must end.” he says aloud to himself. “Now we need to get Irek out of here. Please be on guard. I don’t know what you want to do with him..”. He points toward Donavich’s room.
To his companions, he says “Who needs a healing potion? Ready to get out of here?”

"I don't that Doru would return to this place. Being free he is more likely to go about and have his fill from any he comes across. We can only hope to find him before things get truly out of hand." Bertolt says as he leave the basement and heads towards the priest.
“Test Falls? East if here, I believe… “ Everlie answers offhandedly. “Past the castle a bit, I believe. Never been myself…”
“But yeah,” he continues, looking around the odds and ends they gathered. “I don’t reckon we want much of this ourselves. I’m thinking more destroying it… I’m of a mind about burning the place down but those upstairs may not votton to the idea much?”

Talion nods at Bert's words. He looks a little uncomfortable; perhaps he is unused to dealing with a guilty conscience, or perhaps it is his frustrated desire for revenge, or something else.
"I get that we want to take Irek away, and Stanimir wants us to come with him and see this woman he knows. But...we released a vampire. Now it will prey on the town. Doesn't anyone here think that we should try to ... you know ... fix the mess we made? It's one -- well-connected -- life, " he nods in Irek's direction, "...against a whole town."
(Back in time, before going upstairs). "With the creature(he says those two words venomously) helping it, we don't really have a chance. Let's get Irek out of here as we promised Ismark and find Madame Eva. I don't think we should burn this whole building down. But Onyx has his work cut out for him, he will need to somehow sanctify this church, bring light into this dark place once again."

Talion looks unconvinced, "The creature is also hunting Irek...so our efforts are equally doomed either way. What does everyone else think?" He turns to Irek, "And I guess you should have a say in this too, since it's your life and your town we are talking about."
Talion turns to Bert again, "Did your books teach you much about following the tracks of a man? I can help, if you tell me what to look for. So can Osgar, for that matter." He looks at Erven, surprised by his unwillingness to try to track the vampire. A comfortable wagon is appealing. He sighs. What am I doing? Maybe he's right and we should just leave the town to Doru.
Erven looks at each of them, pauses at Sho and says “They don’t know what happened,” pointing to Bert and Talion. “I can try to track him, even though the path is getting colder by the minute. Strahd may have turned him into a bat or somesuch and just had him fly away. Stanimir is leaving, I think that is the path we should take. But if you want me to track him I can and I will. If Strahd is guarding him, I have little hopes for our success unless we have some other help to defeat her.”

Erven sighs and walks outside, feeling they will be on a fools errand. “Perhaps we will be lucky and Strahd has left him alone. But we will lose the chance to travel with Stanimir and talk with madame Eva.” Since Ismark has not spoken up, Erven heads back outside and starts to examine the ground, following the tracks that Doru made, “I can track him Talion.”

“We should take it all,” Everlie says, a touch of anger in his voice. “Leave the creature no comforts if it returns to this place…”
Talion wrinkles his nose, "The potions, maybe." He picks up the amulet, examining it closely. If it is silver, he pockets it. "Silver...useful."
"Leave the rest. Or burn it if you like." His gaze lingers on the doll for a moment, remembering another doll. "Especially the doll."
Scanning the hand-written notes a second time, he looks up at Everlie. "I wonder where Tser Falls might be. Any idea?"

"Try and find Doru." Sho agrees. Not everyday you get to kill a vampire.
“If it’s in front of me and needs killing, I’ll kill it,” Everlie says with a smile. “If we can find it, let’s have a go…”
