Bertolt tells them that it matches the key they had come across. He watches the door as Evren goes to open it, pulling his crossbow out and aiming it towards the door.
The key turns in the lock, opening it. The door opens inward with a slight creak. This room contains a bricked-up window flanked by two dusty, wood-framed beds sized for children. Closer to the door is a toy chest with windmills painted on its sides and a dollhouse that's a perfect replica of the dreary edifice in which you stand. These furnishings are draped in cobwebs. Lying in the middle of the floor are two small skeletons wearing tattered but familiar clothing. The smaller of the two bodies cradles contains a ratty, stuffed doll that you also recognize, having seen it before....
When Ervan opened the door, Talion had been busy mentally comparing the size of the paintings to the size of the bag that Bertolt now carries, wondering if they would fit, reluctant to damage the art work. He looks back at the dog, checking that it is still a dog, then watches as the door creaks open.
As the room is revealed he becomes motionless, the paintings forgotten as he stares at the bodies. I knew they were dead. We all did. But gods above and below...who would do this? He sees the doll and his eyes narrow, "That doll..." he says, glancing at Onyx, waiting to see what the taciturn warrior will do.
Erven notes it as well, stands behind Onyx and points it out. He watches for any movement, gets ready for any attack. He does glance back to see if Bear has been following.

Sho's silent gaze passes over the two skeletons clinging to each other in the bleak room, echoing the voices of the two children who had asked for help in the tearing wind, and the misty fog the front of the mansion, that was left in the illusion. He takes a step, reaches out and puts an hand on Bertolt’s shoulder. “Let us not.” He gives Onyx an understanding look and continues, “We should discuss the rites first. Burial, or cremation. At least we shall prepare the ground before we transport the remains. Some of us can look after them for the time being.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Talion waits a few moments before moving into the room with Ervan so that they can do their usual inspection. "Bodies usually go into the sewer or into a ditch in my experience, but this time... this time, I agree: They deserve some respect at the end, at least." Memories of being left for dead in the sewer flood back. Noone came to rescue them. Once more he silently thanks his patron.
He keeps well away from the diminutive corpses, and after Ervan gives the all-clear, Talion will investigate under the bed then looks at the doll's house and finally the toy chest.
Under the bed, you find a few kids’ games, some “secret” writings that kids write to each other, puzzles, and a small knife tucked up under the frame. You also find a series of short letters from Rose to both Gustav and his wife, telling them she loves them and hopes to see them soon.
The doll house is an exact replica of the house you are standing in, down to every detail. Curiously, you note 2 things: first, a stairwell seems to go from the attic (where you are now) straight down throw the house. Second, at the base of the dollhouse, you see some caulking stuck to the table. Judging the table itself, looking underneath, you see the it’s a deep table with a compartment. Talion, as your gaze lingers over the stairwell, a grinding sound can be heard throughout the house, more specifically it is coming from the room to the south and west. Moving next to the toy chest, you notice several toys you would have seen in your youth, toy swords, puzzles, pin the tail on the dragon, dress up clothing, etc.
While you inspect these items, the rest of you notice a chill setting in the room, the temperature drops considerably - and your breathing steam from your mouths. Bear wags her tail and gets up. From the corpses on the ground, light begins to materialize and then coalesce together, until you are looking at Rose and Thorn once more, though this time they are standing upright. It’s easy to see they are ghosts. They smile at you. “We knew you’d make it,” they say together.
Talion pauses in his search, his face paling as he backs away. In reflex his hand begins to glow with arcane light as he glances from the children to Sho and then back, unsure what to do. "We came to kill the monster..." he says.
Sho holds out his hand as a gesture for others to stay back. He slowly genuflects in front of the bodies of two children, so he is at eye level with them. His gaze lingers on their tiny smiling, incorporeal faces, entranced and intrigued. Granted the encounter with Ester... he didn't really have chance to talk to her.
“Who killed you?” he asks softly, “why do you stay?”
Erven bows his head in respect and tears come to his eyes. "Rose and Thorn" is all that he gets out. Stunned, he kneels down on one knee as he takes in the scene before him.

Bertolt frowns but nods as he closes the bag, staying quiet as the ghosts of the children appear suddenly. He will watch them closely while waiting to listen to what their answers will be.
@Sho - you know LOTS about ghosts, which you can find here. Specifically, you realize there is something tethering Rose and Thorn here, to this house and that likely you will need to "fix" whatever that is. You don't sense any malevolence from the ghosts but despite that, you know that ghosts can also be very fickle creatures...
Rose and Thorn both smile at you, Sho, but it's Thorn who is distracted for a moment and blurts out, "Hey!" to Talion, "Those are our toys! Don't touch our toys!" He floats over to the chest and looks inside and then at all of you, protectively. If ghosts were capable of rolling their eyes, Rose would be doing so. "Thornblat Durst! Control yourself!"she scolds him. She smiles at Sho again but it is only Rose who speaks, in a forlorn and sad voice that seems to echo and penetrate your minds: "Yes, we died - long, long ago. Others have told us that they also saw us outside of the house but that's not us. That's just the house." She whispers this last part as if afraid of being heard. "No matter. How? Oh yes. Mother and father locked us up here, to keep us safe from the monster in the basement - you know about the monster down there, I'm sure?" She looks down and then to Thorn, "But they forgot us - or they died - regardless, one can only live for so long without food and water...I wish I had a spell for that," she adds wistfully...
“Can you tell us any more about the monster down there, and how to get down there, to the basement?“. As he talks, Erven walks over to the doll house and looks to see the way to get there, demonstrates to the house with his hands. “We want to seek vengeance for you, Rose and Thorn. About what they did to you. What can we do? What can you do to help us?”

Bear is still there, still a dog. He runs in the door and lays down beside the corpses. He whines and nudges the bodies. It’s heartbreaking.

For now let us store them in this bag so that we do not risk damaging the bones." Bertolt says as he opens the bag slowly.
((Sorry, rough week.))
Onyx raises one thick eyebrow as they start shoving the kiddie cadavers into the sack. He lingers at the threshold, uncomfortable with the act.
"I wouldn't recommend disturbing them until we have a place to actually inter or incinerate them. Sho?"
He turns towards the priest, hoping for advice from a person more educated in such things.
Another medical problem. Indefinite hiatus. Sorry, all.
