((good question - I would say yes just barely with the visual on the little sucker. You can roll a nature check to see if you know about Grung colors. 18 gets you the knowledge that red ones are usually magic based which will mean that you would know. Otherwise, you wouldn't, until Phillip tells you, which would have to be on his turn as that is pretty important info for off turn comms.))
Gotur steps back, holding his shield ready, and getting a bit of cover in the nearby shrubbery.
"If they push it, it's gonna get messy, back 'em down if you can."
((Dodge Action for now, *Equipping Shield*, and if I'm parsing the spell right, the 5ft of movement he takes removes him from the spike growth, so takes no damage for moving within it? Your call though, of course.))
It’s been a while since Phillip has been face-to-face with other Grungs, but he still remembers his first language and remembers very well the Grung colour-cast hierarchy.
((Before his turn begins)) he glances quickly around, at all the Grungs, trying to assess the threat level the party are facing...
Phillip knows very well the general specialities of the different coloured Grungs, and knows that the greens are trained almost exclusively as melee-fighters. But does he see any bows or ranged weapons on the Greens at all? (or any of the others for that matter).
I'm hoping this is something that is just easily seen at a glance. It’s something he would have been looking out for as soon as he saw them.
Gotur, during the travels so far, perhaps you and Phillip have been having detailed conversations about grungs. You already knew about them, but he filled in all of the blanks during a conversation you and him had during one of the previous days travel. You'd know everything about their stat block and caste structures. So you'd definitely know that it is the red one who cast the spike growth.
You know everything in there, same with Phillip of course!
Gotur, yes that is no problem for not taking damage if you're moving back like that. Everyone else in the area will have to roll damage if they move as you were the only one who could've moved without taking damage. You slip back behind the shrubs and raise up your shield.
Azaka growls at the spikes around her, nods at Gotur's advice and she quickly takes her longbow off her back, takes aim and shoots at the green grung south of her, in the tree. (1/2 cover) Longbow: 9 Damage: 5
The weretiger is distracted by the spikes around her and she shoots the arrow wide off into the jungle.
Phillip, you have a good spot to see all of the grungs. You take a glance at all of the grungs up in the trees. The green ones seem to have daggers lining their belts. They look like throwing knives. The red one has a shortbow, and so do the orange/yellow guys. They also have daggers, longer ones vs. the throwing knives that the greens have.
Phillip is up!
Map is updated.
Evo, Alton, Red Grung, Gotur, Azaka, Phillip, Eku, Orange Grungs, Green Grungs
Phillip ‘thinks’ to Eku, “I’ll do my best!...” and steps forward to the clearing (3-spaces east of the red Grung) and makes a show of throwing his cloak back to show his colours (hoping to confuse Grungs that haven’t seen anything like him before).
He then stares straight at the red Grung, and blows his throat up huge, making a loud echoing (threatening) ‘croak’-sound as it deflates, and then speaks to all the Grungs, (in Grung).“You have ambushed the wrong party. These are MY slaves!! Surrender and leave... I am the dominant Grung here!...”.
((Phillip speaks Grung with ease, without a hint of his stutter. It sounds like a series of overlapping clicks and chirps and croaks))
As he says ‘I am the dominant Grung here’, he raises both hands and clenches his fists and six crystal shards condense before him. He then thrusts both his hands forward and the crystal-shards all fly directly at the red Grung...
Cast a spell action (magic missile): 13 (force damage)
Phillip, the red grung looks at you with those big black eyes and they are widened with surprise as you emerge and say your piece. The orange/yellow ones also look quite put off by what they hear, but don't have much time to think about anything else as the crystal shards fly directly at the red grung. It doesn't have a chance to move as all of them smash into it. (-24) and it barely is able to stay stuck to the tree up 25ft. However, it's magic spikes that it created writher up and then vanish as it can't maintain the concentration of the magic.
Eku says telepathically to Phillipill finish it off. I'm truly sorry, Phillip. Hopefully this should prompt them to retreat.Phillip, in this split second moment, you can see that Eku is being genuine. She is clearly pained that she will be killing one of your species, although she also has no problems doing it as these particular suckers are evil to the core, and you know how she feels about evil. She flies over to the red grung, and tries to sink her teeth deep into its body. While she's doing this, she's looking at the yellow/orange grung the whole time. Kind of like a "you're next" kind of thing.
Bite: 16 Damage: 11 (immune to the poison part)
Her fangs sink into the grung, and then she retracts. The red grung falls out of the tree to the ground, dead.
Eku seems to not be affected after biting the grung. She thinks to herself that wasn't smart Eku
The orange grungs seems to be very concerned after seeing their wizard of the group get obliterated, but aren't ready to retreat just yet. The start to chirp out to each other which Phillip can understand as "TRAITOR!! OUTCAST!! THESE NO LOOK LIKE SLAVES! KILL EM!"
The orange grung closest to Eku, seeing its comrade get bitten by this flying snake-dragon being, tries to get some revenge and it takes a wicked slash with a dagger while holding on to the tree.
Dagger slash: 6 Damage: 7 (Eku is immune to the damage if applicable) and the couatl easily avoids the poisoned blade.
The other orange grung, still 25ft up in the tree and 35 ft above the party in the ravine, yells to Phillip "TRAITOR! TRAITOR CLAN!" and then takes aim with a short bow and shoots an arrow at Evo, knowing that it's poison won't effect Phillip. The shortbow just has the range given the elevation and distance.
Shortbow: 10 Damage: 7
The poisoned arrow harmlessly sticks into Evo's shield.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The 2 southwest grungs climb down to the bottom of the tree that they are in, and throw their poisoned throwing daggers at Evo. The range is almost at the max for these weapons especially since Evo is in that ravine which is 10 feet down, so the attacks are made at disadvantage.
Throwing dagger: 5 Damage: 4
Throwing dagger: 17 Damage: 5
One of the daggers sticks into his shield, and the other one just flies wide.
The 2 south grungs both throw poisoned daggers at the weretiger. They remain in the trees up 35ft total including Azaka being in the ravine, and are at the dagger's max range, also made with disadvantage.
Throwing dagger: 5 Damage: 3
Throwing dagger: 15 Damage: 6
The second dagger sticks her. And while she takes no initial damage, she tries to fight off the grung poison... 6 CON
The 2 north grungs remain in the trees and throw their poisoned daggers at Alton. Disadvantage due to the range, again.
Throwing dagger: 9 Damage: 6
Throwing dagger: 8 Damage: 3
Lastly, the 3 east grungs remain in the trees and throw their daggers at Gotur who has his shield up. Disadvantage again due to the range.
Ok forget that, I will put the results in this post!
Evo: One of the daggers sticks into his shield, and the other one just flies wide.
Azaka: one hits, her CON was 10, which is a fail. She takes 4 poison damage, and is poisoned for 1 minute.
Also, she can’t move except to climb or make standing jumps. If it is a flying creature, they can't take any actions or reactions until they land. *variant
Alright, Alton, you take that extra 2 poison damage, and are poisoned for 1 minute. You also can't move except to jump or climb. (but you can attack in place while poisoned). The poison feels quite odd to the halfling who himself is quite used to poisons and he's likely never felt this type of poison surge through his veins before.
Evo, your mace smacks the grung and the magical force almost smashes it right out of the tree. It barely hangs on. (can you let me know exactly which grungs you mean? I am confused when you say move the mace 'down' to hit the northmost grung when it seems to be at the northmost one already. Sorry for my confusion!! Maybe I'll use numbers next time :) ) If the sacred flame was for one of the green grungs, it hits. If it was for the orange one, it misses. Let me know which grungs you meant and I'll take the damage off and move the mace. Thanks!
((Same two as last time, with down I meant towards the ground since they had climbed down a bit in the tree. Probably should have specified which 'down' I meant. Both attacks were on green grungs!))
Alton pulls out two of his throwing daggers and with considerable more duress, flicks them towards the grung who attacked him just seconds ago. (Because of their distance from the group, these attacks would be made at disadvantage, but he already has disadvantage and it doesn’t stack.)
Goturmutters in druidic, swirling his staff around, leaves and detritus spinning and lifting into the air, the rising breeze tugging at his clothing as it expands rapidly above the canopy into a swirling disk of dark clouds, crackling with lightning. He sweeps his staff down on the middle grung of the easternmost trio, a bolt of lightning tearing free and slamming into the tree they are perched upon.
DEX Saves for all 3, DC 14 or 12 lightning damage, half on a successful save.

Ahh yes, the down makes perfect sense now! Ok, Evo I moved the mace on the map down to where the grungs on the ground are. I had it in the wrong spot. It's colored blue now as well. It hits the grung and since it's already on the ground, it almost kills it instantly but the sucker remains standing. The other grung beside it gets seared with the radiant flames, almost killing it as well. (those are the green ones who attacked you)
Alton, even with the disadvantage and the poison in your veins, you're able to focus and both of the daggers hit the grung. It just barely holds on to the tree it's in. For reference, you hit the grung at the very top of the map, the northernmost one, with both daggers.
Gotur, the disc of dark clouds form above you. The bolt of lightning which has already been described perfectly smashes into the tree and it completely fries two of the grungs. The other one takes some pretty nasty burns and yells out in pain.
Azaka likely watches in awe for a moment at Gotur's magic, and then refocuses and takes a shot at the weakest grung that is on the ground (the ones that Evo is working on)
Longbow: 20 Damage: 8
Phillip is up!
Map is updated. (I didn't add Gotur's stormcloud, just assume it's there over him, 60ft radius, it's pretty wide !)
