After having composed himself slightly, Phillip would enquire whether there was anywhere they should stop off at first, on the way to Omu, that might help their cause. “Uh huh, uh huh.… A v-village of potential allies? Yep?… A spring with magical properties? Hmm?… A powerful weapon we could hunt down? Uh huh?… …”.
Evo, the naga would say that unfortunately there is really no 'safe' route to Omu as you and the party might've already experienced being in the jungle, although she said that from the sounds of it you have been lucky with adversity so far when just travelling through the jungle, and that is saying a lot given how far you've come. With that, she suggests a basic approach. "If possible, go in a straight line to Omu. Travel fast when possible." She fears time is of the essence and would not suggest exploring any other locations on the way to avoid unnecessary risk. Unless of course, something evil was clearly going on that couldn't be avoided. "From the looks of your map, you should be able to travel south and remain in jungle terrain until you reach Omu. I estimate it will take 15 days if you move quickly."
The naga has actually never been to Omu. The naga knows that Omu lies between the Peaks of Flame and the Valley of Lost Honor, and she also knows it’s sunken below the level of the surrounding jungle, so the best way to spot it will be from the air or from the nearest high ground. You already know the general location, so she can't provide much more information about Omu itself.
Some of you may share the desire to get to Omu right away, others might want to explore Chult more? Azaka and Eku are essentially at your command now since you've helped them both with their tasks. They are now invested in this main storyline though and see the potential need to embark to Omu immediately, although they are not against checking out locations that might be on the way.
As far as help for the cause, the naga indeed bears gifts.
"Before you leave, please accept my offerings. May they aid you on your quest, brave adventurers."
She gives the following charms to the following people and explains exactly what the item does. (please keep track of duration/uses yourselves, please and add to character sheets)
Alton: Charm of the Slayer.
One sword in your possession becomes a giant slayer for the next 9 days. The charm then vanishes from you, and the weapon returns to normal. This charm is a tiny black sword about 2 inches long.
Gotur: Charm of Vitality
This charm allows you to give yourself the benefit of a potion of vitality as an action. Once you do so, the charm vanishes from you. This charm is a small red heart the size of a quarter.
Phillip: Charm of Heroism
This charm allows you to give yourself the benefit of a potion of heroism as an action. Once you do so, the charm vanishes from you. This charm is a square the size of a rubix cube, and its transparent.
Evo: Charm of Restoration
This charm has 3 charges. You can use an action to expend some of its charges to cast one of the following spells: greater restoration (uses 2 charges) or lesser restoration (uses 1 charge). Once all its charges have been expended, the charm vanishes from you. This charm is a metal plus "+" sign about the size of your palm.
Azaka and Eku = unfortunately the naga only had the 4 charms kicking around. She gives them her blessings.

6:00AM - DAY 19
When you leave the shrine, you notice that it is dawn of the next day. So, at least 8 hours have magically passed. You feel the same as when you originally went into the shrine. (you didn't long rest). If you look back into the shrine, it's a barren chamber again, and if you enter, it remains the barren chamber. You cannot access the naga again. (so be honest if your character would've left or asked more questions. Happy to retro the questions that would've been asked!)
You can descend the ziggurat with no difficulty, with or without the orchid and feather; the snakes are gone, the steps are solid, and a clear path extends through the plants and thorns. When you reach the ground, you see blue tulips blooming all around the base of the ziggurat. The tulips are beautiful but nonmagical.
So... what's next?! Eku and Azaka have said what they are down for which is heading to Omu now, but potentially checking out locations that might be on the way. Phillip can technically lead all the way down to Omu and never get the party lost since the line down to Omu is all jungle. I think there are some locations of interest as well which might also come into play? Locations of interest tab.
I updated the map of Chult with a small section that the naga would've explained about on the map that has been cleared. (just south of Orolunga.)
Phillip holds up his charm, a fist-sized, transparent cube ((that maybe looks a little like the tesseract from the avengers?)). And he’s almost overwhelmed again. “Oh!… This is too much! Uh huh… It’s… wonderffffful! Oh tthank you! Yup yup yup!…”. He hugs it to his chest for a while, before placing it carefully in his pack.
Alton accepts the gift graciously with a nod and thanks the Naga. He has no further questions, and would follow out of the ziggurat after Philip. He would be in favor of just following exactly what the naga told them to do: travel fast and get to Omu as quickly as possible by just following a straight line if possible.
(Have added a giant slayer shortsword to Alton’s inventory!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gotur would have pondered the name Dendar when it was brought up.
8
"Anyone know anything about the Night Serpent fellow? Guessing he's bad, with the end of the world stuff."
"Thank you for the gift."
((Other than if there is anything that she thinks would help us, but since she said go right there, doesn't sound like there's anything she's aware of that would greatly improve our odds. Perhaps would have inquired about anything she knew of the POI along our path. Even if we aren't detouring to check them out, if they present a hazard, we'd better know to avoid it.))
The naga would've told you about Dendar during the meeting for sure, as well as some more information listed below.
Dendar the Night Serpent was an elder evil and a primordial. A colossal serpent who spent her time devouring the nightmares and fears of both mortals and immortals in hopes of bringing about the end of the world. She was some 300 feet long with blue-black scales, yellow eyes, and a huge maw filled with four fangs, spittle, and the bones of some of her former victims.
This naga has never actually been to Omu though and so can't give you specific details about the site itself as it is now, other than some brief history:
Naga's Omu history knowlwdge:
Omu was once a jewel in Chult’s crown. Built over rich mineral veins, the city garnered wealth in abundance. Omuan jewelry was coveted far and wide, and the city’s merchants grew fat on commerce. To enter Omu, it was said, was to enter the gates of paradise itself. Such wealth brought greed. Omu’s hunger for slaves made her rulers demand ever greater tribute from their neighbors. When their vassals couldn’t pay in flesh, they paid in blood. Omu’s feared legions marched across Chult.
The Omuans’ greed and hubris angered the god Ubtao, causing him to turn his back on Omu two hundred years ago — long before he abandoned the rest of Chult. Omu’s clerics lost their spells, and the city fell to sickness and disease. Slave uprisings wracked Omu, and its nobles fled in droves.
Omu became known as the Forbidden City.
Fifty years ago, a brood of yuan-ti slithered into Omu and made it their new home. They built an underground temple and patiently waited for their god, Dendar the Night Serpent, to come forth and swallow the world. Earthquakes shook Omu and cracked it open like a fig, causing the river to burst its banks. Chance spared the yuan-ti temple from destruction, but scores of yuan-ti died, including their leader.
The evil warlord Ras Nsi, who had raised an army of undead to wage war on the holy city of Mezro, only to suffer a terrible defeat, arrived in Omu shortly after the yuan-ti. Ras Nsi wormed his way into the yuan-ti’s favor and underwent a ritual to transform into a malison. Before long, he became their ruler. Today, beneath the cracked and broken streets of Omu, Ras Nsi holds sway and plots to bring Dendar the Night Serpent into the world, sealing its doom.
There could be other pieces of history and events in Omu that happened, although this is all that this naga knows.
So - she knows that Ras Nsi has retreated to Omu where she believes he has partnered with the yuan-ti living there and they are searching for a way to bring forth Dendar. She thinks maybe the soulmonger has something to do with it.
Same thing with the POI's. She would've told you about the ones that are in the direction of Omu. At least what she knows of them. In spoiler below:
The river canyon called Ataaz Kahakla (“Gorge of Death”) inspires wonder in most people who see it. The cliff walls, which vary from 50 to 200 feet high, are lined with row upon row of coral. It’s all dead, but it retains its rainbow colors, making the canyon into a breathtaking, pseudo-underwater seascape. Mixed in among the corals are intact skeletons of plesiosaurs, giant sharks, and other sea creatures.
Ataaz Yklwazi (“Gorge of Blades”) forms a gateway of sorts to the Valley of Lost Honor from the north. Blades of black basalt thrust up from the floor of this deep, volcanic canyon to create a forest of sorts: one that can easily draw blood from unwary trekkers who brush against the ebon piles that are as sharp as the razor-edged weapons they’re named after.
The naga reiterates that the best plan for you will likely be to not stop anywhere.
She does not know anything about the Star Goddess Wreck site that is on the way.
7:00AM - DAY 19
Direction: South, through the dense jungle
Speed: Fast (2 hexes)
Navigator: Phillip
Encounter rolls: 14 / 1511 / 956 / 17
-> peaceful travels as per usual! Phillip is doing a great job leading the party through the dense jungle. I will update the map and get the next day going ASAP.
At some point, Phillip would ask Eku if she would transform into a Grung for a while with him.
If she’s willing he would play leap-frog with her for a short time.
He’ll also check with her if she gains the Grung immunity to Grung poison in that form… and if so, he’d ask her if she wouldn’t mind giving him a hug. He’s never had a hug before, from anyone, but always thought they looked nice.
((Gotur's survival check reminded me - we should reconcile insect salve and incense! The bugs are bad out here. OK - I think everyone will need to remove 19 of the salves to cover each day of travel. Gotur, is your inventory correct with that number? I can't recall if you did craft that many and/or purchased them. For the incense, perhaps those would've been lit around the camp each night, so Gotur perhaps you could remove the 19 of those. Also, Gotur you could make a number of retro survival checks depending on how many times you would've done one throughout the travels.
You didn't find anything with the recent 13 roll. (when you do find these ingredients, I'll tell you how much in gp equivalent that you found. If you roll high enough, you might also find other useful plants.)
Once that is all done, we can see where we are at with the insect salve/incense inventories for each person and then see if we will need more. Let me know!
GOTUR - INSECT SALVE / INCENSE
it will take 5gp worth of materials (the process to extract the ingredients from the raw materials to make the salve is intense and you don't get a lot from the raw materials.), along with 4 hours of your time. This is for the salve. To make the incense, it will take 3gp of materials, and 2 hours of your time.
Phillip, Eku would indeed turn into a grung and play leap frog for more than a short time. These days while mostly encounter free have been long and so Eku would've definitely welcomed this! Azaka would've chuckled at this and it would've warmed her heart.
Eku doesn't think she will share the grungs class features and therefore she doesn't think she will be immune. However, she is willing to change back to her couatl form and cast protection from poison and take the risk. She wraps the grung up in her large wings and gives him a nice friendly hug. CON: 21
She's fine :)
Evo, Azaka would've also shuddered when she thinks back to swallowing the snake. "That was, an experience to say the least. Better than being at the top of firefinger though!"
I still have to move forward with the next day's rolls plus update the map with day 19 travel. - in the meantime let me know about the salves etc.
((OOC: Phillip has 1x incense and 20x salves that he doesn’t need (because he’s a native, and because the insects don’t like to bite his poison skin, and because he eats any that get near! As discussed early in the campaign)… So he has a small supply that he would gladly share with anyone who runs out. Let me know as soon as anyone runs out and Phillip will divvy his up. But he holds on to them for now, not knowing if anyone has run short)).
((Yeah, I bought 20 gold worth of salve so we'd be stocked up for a while. I remembered to remove a use of it the first day, then forgot after that. So if we want, I can just deduct Gotur's use of his stockpile, or I can deduct for the 5 party members who need it (4 + 2 guides - Phillip), which would be 95 uses total. I've made occasional Survival checks, how many retro checks sounds like a good number to you?))
At Camp:
"Your toxin is only short term, right Phillip? I'm willing to risk it for a hug, I almost gave you one up on the Naga's ziggurat when you were talking about Syn."
CON Save: 9
He will also spend some time as a giant frog to be able to join in with the pair of grung.

Phillip looks at Gotur a little overwhelmed again…
“Seconds… Minutes… …It depends on your size and motabolism. Uh huh… .. Yep… .. But it’s not pleasant! Nuh huh… Nope… … You would do this??!…”.
Gingerly, Phillip moves over to hug Gotur. This might be one of the best days of his entire life…
((Gotur perhaps feels woozy, and uncoordinated, and like even the most simple tasks might be all but impossible… and is poisoned for 1 minute))
After a lovely hug, Phillip steps back and asks, “Are you okay? hmmm?… … I’ve heard some people have used Grung poison recreationally. Uh huh uh huh…. But most find it extremely unpleasant! Yup yup… …”.
He looks concerned at Gotur but smiles, “Thank you! Uh huh…”.
Phillip takes all the hugs he can get. “This day just gets better and better!! Uh huh! Yep yep yep!…..”. He is noticeably more positive and has even more of a spring in his step! (if that’s even possible).
((hahaha this is great with the hugs! Yep Phillip for sure the insect bit was for everyone except for you :D ))
((Ok awesome about the stockpile... I knew it was something like that. OK cool, maybe yes let's do that and just deduct from Gotur's stockpile. Hmmm.. I can only remember a handful of past survival checks. Does 5 retro rolls seem right?))
Ok so Azaka will also hug Phillip. She will give a warm purr as she holds the grung tightly for a few moments. "We will save Syn my friend. Worry not."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Alright, deducting from the stockpile, then we'll handle our own from here on out? Klein, you want me deducting an additional 2 each day for the guides?))
Evo would also inquire about the fastest, safest route to Omu.
After having composed himself slightly, Phillip would enquire whether there was anywhere they should stop off at first, on the way to Omu, that might help their cause. “Uh huh, uh huh.… A v-village of potential allies?

Uh huh…”.

Gotur is looking pale, which is a bit disconcerting for one with a half orc's complexion.
"I... I'll be fine. M... maybe just sit down for a bit and have some water." , he swallows carefully and finds a spot to rest.
After a bit, his color returns and he's breathing easier.

"Was worse with the handshake, surprisingly!"

Worry not."
