Hey fellows, could you please help me out? I don't really get what happens to a Monk, if he's polymorphed into a beast (either by spell, or multiclassing in Druid, and transforming to a wolf)? Are the unarmed strike, unarmed defense feats forgotten in that form, or they apply if they are better then normal dmg dice / armor?
Polymorph turns you into a creature and you effectively use that stat block as your character sheet. Polymorph does not allow you to use any monk abilities. It's not like wild shape where you can keep certain abilities.
A monk/druid could, in theory, use unarmored defense. But you'd simply recalculate it based on your new stats. Say you wild shape into a giant snapping turtle. Your Dex becomes 10 and you Wisdom stays the same. Say you have a wisdom of 16, your Unarmored Defense would then be 13, though the Turtle would have 17. So you'd be using that one probably :P
Same goes for unarmed strikes; EVERY creature has an unarmed strike, even if they have natural weapons. Said snapping turtle could clog you in the head with a headbutt (unarmed strike). RAW this deals 1+STR mod (4) damage.
Though it would make sense that some unarmed strikes are no longer available to you if you lack the anatomy to do it; a regular box turtle rarely makes kung fu moves all Oogway style. This is mostly up to DM however.
