Odd or other "special" equipment that seems usable by PC's via purchase and/or capture, that are not listed in PHB.
These weapons have listings in various sources, some are "enhanced" versions of existing weapons (like repeating light crossbow) others are their entire own weapon with full listing
The Yklwa is your most likely non-typical weapon to be sold in a shop, if "near" Chult. Its a Forgotten Realms only weapon form its source material
The Double-bladed Scimitar is a sold Eberron only weapon form its source material (& have elven blood in your veins)
Also the Yklwa and/or Double-bladed Scimitar is able to be bought as starting equipment in AL ("any resource") depending on campaign setting
Double-bladed Scimitar - ERLW ("guarded" but sold elf item, Eberron item only)
Yklwa- ToA (common "Chultan" item, sold on & near chult. Forgotten Realms only)
Hooked Shortspear - OotA (common Derro item, unsold), decent as a TWF option for "tripping"
Light Repeating Crossbow - OotA (common Derro item, unsold) best ranged option for a small sized character in all of 5e
Oversized Longbow - WDH (unique item with unique ammo, unsold) unique item with unique ammo
Sharktooth Longsword - PoA (common "crushing wave cult" item, unsold) Awesome item, sadly only available in long sword form (as printed)
Did I miss any obvious ones? Everything else is for "large" or bigger creatures, or is a special weapon needing some racial do-dad (natural sticky "goop", needs more than 2 arm limbs, etc.) or would be considered a "not simple or martial, but "special"" weapon (there fore treated as improvised RAW, or at very least non-proficient at DM decision)
Unsold items are generally "looted, captured, or stolen" only, well unless DM arranges some "trade" with items owners.
The Shark-toothed longsword, Derro hooked spear & repeating crossbow should be able to be duplicated (at a custom made cost) if you have a working example to copy. I would not allow a "shark-toothed shortsword or greatsword" or "repeating heavy or hand crossbow" as they dont exist in print anywhere.
Of all listed only Yklwaand/or Double-bladed Scimitar can be bought, and they are limited to their campaign settings respectfully. Yklwa looks least interesting at 1st, but infact is very good at its 1gp value, simple melee weapon with 1d8 damage dice + "thrown" quality + being 1-handed!
Nice list! small point - for AL- Pretty sure you can’t buy ANY weapon as ‘starting equipment’. You’re bound to whatever options are provided in the class’s starting equipment and background starting equipment. That’s RAW( on phone but can quote in a couple days). But once you start, you can say ‘okay I just ran to the store and picked up some stuff that I can afford with my starting gold’....so not really ‘starting equipment’.
and since you mentioned AL, the answer to your question for AL is ‘no’, can’t use if looted....you’d have to actually buy it as nonmagical mundane equipment is all trash. Raw anyway....if one of my players really wanted a big stick with a blade on it, he’d be able to loot one.
Anchorite of Talos has a clawed gauntlet, Pirate Bosun has a hook, to name a couple more.
But...just a note on monster items: The stat blocks don't implicitly say that the weapon itself gives additional benefits. The trip for the derro, grapple for the bosun, and extra damage dice for the sharktooth are all listed as performed by the monster. I would rule that it is the combination of weapon and monster only that gives the listed benefits. Picking up a hook from a Pirate Bosun would absolutely not give a PC a free action grapple with every hit, nor would a derro spear give a free trip with every attack.

@Sigvard_Vigrid Very good point. I'll link you here for a shark-tooth note from WotC designers on twitter, but I get its a table by table call. As a small note all the "cultists" encountered with them are all just PC race NPS's that sometimes use water-breathing magic:
[..] "the Crushing Wave cultists take in many people who are bitter, lost, or mad." [..] "where devotees use water-breathing magic to immerse themselves in the element they worship."
Also the Derro spear isnt a "free" trip every attack, its like a DC9 str check to trip AT THE EXPENSE OF ANY DAMAGE. Its not super interesting unless your really leaning into a "disabler build":
[..] "can choose to deal no damage and try to trip the target instead, in which case the target must succeed on a DC 9 Strength saving throw or fall prone."
@HeathSmithThe AL player Document has a "small issue" in wording in the section regarding building a character. A character may be made with any, previous, season's guideline document (like it had sat dormant or gone unused), and is usable as long as it doesnt violate the season being played guidelines. This is super "gamey", but I blame WotC for introducing a 1-handed 1d8 simple melee weapon, no one thought people would foam at the mouth for 1? ("Your telling me my Chultian tribal goblin cant own a yklwa DM?")
Could you all post a small lst of items you found and their source book, please? Especially for any "enhanced" versions of listed weapons, like the shark-tooth longsword or repeating light crossbow. Having the PC be able to pick it up and be proficient is what gives them any "special value", to me at least.
I'm trying to have a small list of them, the existing Small/Medium humanoid "produced" weapons, like not "unique ones".
The main point of the list was I found the Derro repeating light crossbow and was like...WOW! As Derro are basically evil "gnome-dwarves" (not a far realm oops anymore in 5e), they tend to live in or around Drow cities (as the lowest caste) so its reasonable to think they produce these, at least for themselves so they arnt 1-off's. 6 shots before needing a reload action is golden if your small without the "crossbow expert" feat (and the Halfling & Goblin PCs rejoiced endlessly)
Its that Yklwa, 1gp, simple melee, 1d8, 1 handed.... its a dream weapon especially for non-martial weapon classes without access to a rapier or a warhammer
I rate the yklwa is perhaps the most OP mundane weapon in all of the Forgotten Realms, maybe all of 5e (if it wasnt for that twistedly OP double-bladed scimitar in EB)

i think picking your own equipment DOES violate the current season rules.
PG 9.1: "Step 4: Choose Equipment: Your character's class and background determine equipmentand gold; you don't roll for starting wealth."
FAQ 9.0: "Skills & Backgrounds | Custom Backgrounds: You can create a custom background for your character by following the rules in the PHB, but you can't create custom background features."
PHB, page 125: "Customizing a background: To customize a background, you can replace one feature with any other one, choose any two skills, and choose a total of two tool proficiencies or languages from the sample backgrounds. You can eitheruse the equipment package from your backgroundor spend coin on gear as described in chapter 5. (If you spend coin, you can't also take the equipment package suggested for your class.) Finally, choose two personality traits, one ideal, one bond, and one flaw. If you can't find a feature that matches your desired background, work with your DM to create one." [the strikeouts are language superseded by AL rules.]
I think when you add those 3 together it specifically says your equipment is defined by your class and background...and when you look at the rules for background, it specifically says you need to use the equipment package from the background....that part isn't customizable.
RAW (as i read it anyway), you can't just pick whatever equipment floats your boat....but again, you can just turn around and buy it anyway so long as its in 'any player resource'. For me, starting equipment has been a big issue as on more than one ocassion, i've had a player say 'hey, my level 1 cleric got his dead dady's plate mail'. maybe i'm wrong, but those are the rules i point to.
Could the character not be created for ToA, allowing yklwa to be purchased? Sorry for asking for details.I'm also 99.9% sure you can sell any starting gear for 50% its value and use the funds gained to buy other equipment

You can "Your character can sell or buy spell components and equipment found in the Player’s Handbook or any player resources."
However, the Yklwa is only listed in To a, and ToA is not a player resource option. So Yklwa is not purchaseable (unless your character was in a season it was).

good point...that's also in the 9.1 FAQ
Purchasing Mundane Equipment Characters can purchase any equipment found in any resources available as a +1 (see ALPG). They can also purchase any spell components necessary to cast any spells in these same resources. Unless specifically described as otherwise in an adventure or other resource, armor is made of the materials described in the PHB.
An ooze prod is a quarterstaff that deals 1d4 force damage instead of the normal damage of that weapon. The prod suffers no damage from contact with oozes. In addition, an ooze hit by a prod has its speed reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn, and it can't benefit from bonuses to speed during that time. If an ooze prod is used as a weapon, it breaks the first time a natural 1 is rolled on an attack roll with it.

I'm interested, are there other weapons in other official manuals or only those on the list?
This whole thread will be out of date next week - and pretty much every other one about AL..
According to the draft rules , if you find a mundane item, you can keep it.
ahhh common sense.

Would the boomerang count?
Yeah, probably.
Does the Spiked Armor from SCAG count? If you are a Barbarian (Battlerager) you can use it do damage at 14th level.
The shadar-kai shadow dancer and tlincalli have spiked chains that do a variety of neat things.
The thread is about items that players can acquire, RAW.
If we start including every weapon attack exclusive to NPCs, we'll be here forever.
Mea culpa. It is a surprising omission, though.
They had spiked chains in previous versions. They were either weak or overpowered, depending on if you piled the feats on.
