One thing to keep in mind: if you cast Banishing Smite, you can't cast another spell before or after it in the same turn unless the other spell is a Cantrip spell. The general rule (usually true but not always true): If somehow you are able to cast two spells in one turn, one of the spells have to be a Cantrip spell.
Okay you got me ;D
Just this... most of the cantrips take an action, as do most spells... so what are the mechanics of this? Will it be explained in the spell casting section of PHB or DMG?
So do you play D&D in person, or online, if I may ask?
Use Misty Step to get away from an enemy who is within 5 feet of you and blast it with a firebolt, Frostbite, Eldritch Blast...etc. Keep in mind that the range weapon/spell attack has a disadvantage if the target is within 5 feet.
and more...
I play online. Is it even safe to play in person during the Covid19 pandemic?

Sort of. The actual rule is: "A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven't already taken a bonus action this turn. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action." So that means you wouldn't be able to cast a non-Cantrip spell of any kind on your turn, including Reaction spells like Counterspell and Hellish Rebuke(which you otherwise might be able to do as a reaction to an enemy's reaction on your turn, such as if they make an Attack Of Opportunity against you). You also wouldn't be able to Ready a leveled spell to trigger on someone else's turn, since doing so requires that you begin casting it on your turn. BUT, it's important to remember that this rule only applies when you're casting or planning to cast a spell that uses your Bonus Action. If for example you're an Eldritch Knight who has Action Surge, there is nothing preventing you from using your Action to cast something like Shatter, then using Action Surge for another Action to cast Scorching Ray. There is no general rule against casting multiple spells on a turn, only a rule limiting that ability when one of the spells has a Bonus Action casting time. It's one reason why two levels of Fighter is one of the more powerful multiclass dips available :)
Regarding forced movement and ongoing AoE effects like Cloud of Daggers... yes, you can cause a creature to take damage by moving them into the effect, but you must pay careful attention to what the triggering condition is for the AoE.
Most ongoing area effects, like that spell, have a trigger description of "A creature takes [damage] when it enters the spell’s area for the first timeon a turn or starts its turn there." The bolded portion is the key information. "first time on a turn" means the damage can happen on any turn the target creature enters the area (limited to once per turn), and that includes being pushed/pulled into the area by you on your turn.
Other area effects may not work depending on what their description says.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.

I thought the Warlock on CritRole used a Misty Step invocation, but alas there is not one...
Yeah of course online is the best option. I have a good friend who's been in a game for awhile, but they've already got 8 or so players...

Yes of course, makes sense! Casting two spells in a turn seems overpowered. I guess you could say that about the twinned metamagic, but it's limited to separate targets and only certain types of spells for balance, I'd imagine.

Yes I've paid attention to the language for that spell. If you cast it upon a space occupied by a target, they are not considered to have moved into the space that turn. Rather, as soon as their next turn begins they will be affected. That is, I imagine, unless they are somehow knocked away or the spell dispelled by an ally before their turn begins, something along those lines, correct?

Travis(who plays Fjord the Warlock) and Matt(the DM) homebrewed the Hexblade subclass a bit, so that when Fjord made a new magic sword his Pact Weapon, the falchion that he started with would absorb the properties of that weapon, so that Fjord would keep using the same physical blade. One of the swords he did this with allowed a 1/day Misty Step(I think the blade was called Summer's Dance). There's also an Invocation in Xanathar's Guide that let's a Warlock teleport up to 30 feat as a bonus action each turn as long as they teleport to a space 5ft from a creature they've Hexed/Cursed. I don't know if Fjord ever took that invocation, though.
