I'm new to D&D. I played one 4th edition game which was home-brewed and been playing 5th since it came out.
I'm guessing that they've got a lot of new players like myself from the new edition and they probably wanted a setting that fit people assumptions about D&D. Forgotten realms is more in the traditional fantasy setting whereas airships, robots and the general machinery of Ebberon may confuse new players as to whether D&D is fantasy or Sci-Fi.
I'm sure they'll get round to Ebberon material at some point, I just feel like they're business plan is to use FR as they can reintroduce old players to a setting they haven't used for some time and introduce new players to their most developed and most traditional fantasy setting.

There are neither robots nor machinery in Eberron.
"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

I'm sorry it didn't post... I still would love to hear your thoughts on the nature of Eberron. :) I think that's what makes this world so interesting is how we all go about running it. Like, you may see something differently and help someone else get what they were missing. If that makes sense.

So, I found the new Manifest Zone podcast very informative. It was on the Dragonmarks and Dragonmark houses. I feel like I have really ran my characters and whenever I ran Eberron, the Houses, wrong. I never thought of my Mark as more than just a tool, kind of like cool...I get spells.
I suggest y'all give it a listen. It's pretty long too...almost an hour and a half. Apparently, they might be doing the Draconic Prophesy next. I'm looking forward to that. I can't wait until they get to explaining different races. It's really awesome to hear from professional players, DM's and Keith Baker break all of it down for us Eberronites.

Oh, man. I would have never thought of myself as a professional GM or player. The pressure's on! Heheh.
Thanks for sharing the praise. For those not familiar with the show yet, you can find Episode 3 on our website at https://manifest.zone. I think it might be our favorite episode so far.
We've received some really good follow-up questions via The Speaking Stone, so keep an ear out for our responses.

My bad, maybe I should have said more professional than myself? haha It was pretty amazing, though, I think it was my favorite so far too. I was telling my girlfriend last night while I was listening to it that I have to listen to it again and take notes. There was so much good information. Sucks that Wayne wasn't able to record with y'all. I really am starting to love his Insight to Advantage podcast. I am really excited for episodes about the Prophecy and races in Eberron. I feel the deeper y'all dive the more the setting comes alive for me. Which, in about 2-3 months, is going to be essential to the game I will be running. I want my players to love Eberron like I love Eberron, but I also want to do it the justice that it deserves. Understanding how the world sees itself from the creator of the world itself is just about the best thing ever. Keith is just awesome for doing this! As is everyone involved with the podcast...but it's great that he's taking time out of his life, essentially, for us fans of Eberron. That's O.G. right there! Look forward to more great content!

Also, for some light reading from Keith Baker himself. Both the links I will be posting go directly to his site. The first link is on Dragonmark Houses themselves, the second is on Aberrant Dragonmarks. Both are great reads. Hell, Keith has A LOT of great stuff on his website.
Both of these sources come from the Manifest Zone website (https://manifest.zone) as well. Enjoy. :)

It was a really good listen. Gave me some good ideas to incorporate into my game. Especially with the Lyrandar heir in the party. Such as when they are out to sea and a storm is brewing, she will know its coming. We established that the mark is growing, hasn't hit 4th to take the feat yet, but when she does there will be an good bit of explosive growth. Looking forward to it. Also, when they get to the point they can start buying/selling stuff and they try and haggle, especially weapons, I'll be pointing out the prices set out by House Cannith.
So many seeds of ideas get generated by these podcasts.
So, apparently my last post also didn't post. Trying for a third time.
Re; Eberron seeming like a sci-fi setting:
A Half-Elf grips tight the control wheel of his airship. The spokes of the bronze and wood wheel are capped with glowing blue crystals, called Syberys Dragonshards, and the arcane designs circle and spiral down each spoke, some blue and some red, meeting in the hub, which Is etched with a labyrinth pattern of glowing blue and red lines.
A great ring of Eldritch fire circles the middle of the ship, pulsing with incindiary power, red like the lines on the wheel. The ship has sails of various shapes and sizes, positioned atop, below, and on the sides of the vessel, filling with wind that isn't there, sometimes seeming to catch impossible winds that are moving in opposite directions. The sails themselves move and twist with the movements of the Captain at the wheel.
The Captain herself is yelling orders, he bright red hair blowing in the wind, but never in her face. Her brown leather garb covers her well, except for her right arm, which is bare, presumably to show off the great swirling draconic form glowing upon the skin, reaching from shoulder to wrist. She yells a name, "Widget", and points off the starboard bow.
Her first mate, a 5 food tall "man" composed of wood and stone, with crystal eyes, repeats her orders to the crew in a booming voice as he adjusts rigging, and then dashes to the side to load a 3 foot long bolt into what looks like a giant crossbow, he whispers a phrase, and symbols on his forhead and the back of his hand glow a deep purple, and the bolt pulses with the same color as he pauses, suddenly calm in the chaos, and squeezes a trigger.
The ship lists sharply away, dodging a ball of fire, but not before Widget sees his bolt strike true. A 16 foot long wyvern reels back with a pained shriek, her rider screaming in panic. The paralyzing spell will wear off, but not before the wyvern falls into the sea. Widget mumbles a prayer, and reloads.
No one is gonna read any accurate discription of Eberron and see sci-fi.
There's a new Speaking Stone up on Manifest Zone's podcast and website. Wayne answered my question about Dragonmark Houses and their enemies. I know that they can be against each other but I was wondering if there was an overall threat to them that I somehow missed. (I may be working on an anti-Dragonmark cult for my game...lol) But he brought up a great point about the Draconic Prophecy. Especially since I feel like a lot of people (myself included) seem to forget or look over that the Dragonmarks are tied directly to the Prophecy.

We do bones, motherf***ker!
I thought warforged counted as robots. And aren't House Cannith producing lots of machinery?
Just an average metalhead who plays DnD in his spare time.
PbP Character: Roberta Thalan, Void Beyond the Stars Otherside
PbP Character: Primus Eidolon, Eotha 2
PbP Character: Usmor Illiqai, Tomb of Corrosion
PbP Character: "Templar" Danver, You're the Villains
