The other night, I was running a session when a question came up during combat. My Monk player, a 5th-level Way of the Open Hand, unleashed a flurry of punches and wanted to use Stunning Strike multiple times on different attacks within the same turn.
I know the rule states that Stunning Strike can be used whenever the Monk hits with a melee weapon attack, but is there a limit to how many times it can be used in a single turn? For example, if the Monk uses Flurry of Blows (totaling 4 attacks with Extra Attack), could they technically attempt to stun 4 times in one turn, assuming they have enough Ki points?
Just want to make sure I’m interpreting this correctly before the next game. I appreciate any clarification or advice on handling this at the table!
Monk got a huge amount of buffs (more damage, more ki points, cheaper ki abilities, better grappling and shoving, a consolation prize when Stunning Strike fails.) Stunning Strike spam shut down enemies too easily. No monster can succeed on that many saving throws in one turn.
Worth pointing out that while the 2024 rules did limit the number of times you can use Stunning Strike in a turn, they also made it so a weaker version of the effect is applied if the target succeeds on its saving throw. In the 2014 version, if the target succeeded on the saving throw, nothing happened and it was just a waste of a ki point.
Hey fellow adventurers,

Thanks in advance! ✨
If you're using the 2014 version, the only limit is their Ki Points. The 2024 version is limited to once per turn.
