The party was split with one of our members (a drow wizard) being kept hostage by an elf noble and the rest were investigating a mercenary Group that they believe has been stealing tribute from a city. The drow who was being kept hostage had a moon blade.
the elf noble and his guards went to find out how he got such an item. After he admitted that it was his sword the guards captain used the blade to kill the noble . The wizards then tried to intimidate the guards to open the door it failed but they left the room with out getting the corpses. In the meantime the rest of the party was returning to the town where they left there comrade.
When they arrived they found a large crowd yelling for an assassin to be killed. When they asked around they found out that the assassin was invited to the noble’s house and was discovered doing something illegal after being caught the assassin killed the noble and the guard managed to put the assassin in jail. They found the captain of the guard having a speech at the guild hall and asked him about it there. There were convincing him that they were bounty hunters and the drow was there target
the drow was still in jail at the time and had managed to get the lock stuck when he heard a voice his moon blade was making a deal with him. In exchange for noble blood the sword would get him out. The drow agreed and the sword flew to his hand opening the door on the way. He cast invisibly and ran out into the day. He followed the crowd and found his target the guard captain.
and then every thing caught on fire. The drow decided that attacking the guard captain in Front of a crowd yelling for his blood when there mission was to prevent a war at lest he cast darkness first. After a bit of pvp and the town being almost destroyed at lest twice the drow was banished for a turn with 20 hp remaining.
My first session with a new group, and a new character. They are in a dungeon at the time, (I joined late) and they find a room full of arcane tomes and objects, and one of them makes a perception check. They find a scrawny tiefling (me) in a corner reading a book with a crow on his shoulder (my familiar) and the room is filled with scorched bodies. The half elf Paladin: “did you kill them?” Me: *looks around innocently* “hm. I guess I did, yes.” I then proceed to carry the team through fighting a demon because I actually befriended it. Pro skills. Then I almost died because I challenged the Dragonborn rouge to a fight cos he wanted to eat my raven (names Rious) and I rolled 4 crit misses. Then the Paladin stepped in and stopped him from eating my bird. It was great.

I started a new campaign Saturday after the last campaign I posted about on here fell apart due to scheduling conflicts, I'm still trying to schedule the final session. We had a session zero the week before and talked about character backstories. Frustratingly, though, despite being told to choose a connection with another party member only two people did. So, we started with a festival instead of the more cinematic start I was hoping for.
The characters are Enmity a tiefling warlock who worships Dak'amu, the god of devils and fire in my homebrew world, with his backstory being he was mistreated in Senra, a vicious theocracy, and hates pretty much everyone; Eravul Delmirev A dragonborn bard/cleric multiclass whose parents forced him into the church, and he eventually left to pursue his dream of being a musician; Uncle C (Leroy) water genasi fighter who was cursed with amnesia when a mob tried to kill him because they thought his sister (fire genasi) was a tiefling; Zenda Jamjar a lightfoot halfling rouge who was transported to Islandar, my homebrew world, from Toril (the forgotten realms) by a goblin artificer and who ran away with Sylkas after the artificer decided to experiment on them; Sylkas Beivalur a firbolg artificer who saved his brother against his tribe's wishes and was exiled, but eventually became the apprentice to a goblin artificer, after an experiment summoned Zenda he ran away with her. We have two other players, but they didn't make it to the session.
Most of the party joins the talent show. Two of the party members manage to buy some cheap magic items as the vendors didn't realize they were magical. Uncle C (Leroy) almost beats the champion of the fighting pit that wasn't supposed to be beatable yet. Mora, the champion invites him back to fight any time. Uncle C joins the talent show, but realizing he can't win cuts a deal with Zenda to help her and hinder her greatest competition Aeoliun a 1st-level bard. Zenda and Enmity tie, but Zenda is given the win as Enmity is a tiefling and the judges are biased. The event organizer announces the winners and starts to introduce a special guest before the town square are attacked by viro (yuan-ti). He and the special guest are interrogated as to the location of "the item". Uncle C decides to go get Mora Ali from the fighting pit, but is stopped by viro (yuan-ti), this causes a brawl between the players and the viro (yuan-ti). The party manages to pull out a victory, but are thoroughly beaten down by the end of it. The viro almost get away with a box they believe to be carrying "the item" and the party can't extract what is in the box from the guards in the cart it was in.
Aiolos Avaci, a noble, then appears with his town guard (every noble in the city has their own guard). He tells the characters he will reward them later and in the meantime he will pay for their stay at The Roaring Beholder, a tavern. When the party gets there Zenda begins cheating people out of their money using her charlatan die, while Enmity borrows some candles and scrawls his heretical god's symbol onto the table he was sitting at. Luckily, Uncle C (Leroy) blocks him from view using create and destroy water and shape water to create semi-opaque walls of water around him. Uncle C (Leroy) and Enmity have a conversation which ends with Uncle C (Leroy) getting the symbol of Dak'amu scrawled on his wrist and becoming a follower of Dak'amu. The symbol on Uncle C's wrist is noticed despite his attempts to his it, but he manages to convince people that he woke up with it. Enmity runs out of the tavern at this point, not wanting to find out what happens. Sylkas and Uncle C (Leroy) go to the church, and they agree to restore Uncle C's (Leroy's) memory if he can purchase the land that an abandoned temple is on and clear it of monsters, Sylkas also tells the church that he suspects Enmity made the symbol on Uncle C's wrist. Everyone returns to The Roaring Beholder, and heads in for the night. Sylkas and Enmity have a conversation and agree to be neutral towards each other as long as Enmity is no longer hostile to the party. Then Uncle C and Enmity have a conversation with Dak'amu in their dreams. Dak'amu restores Uncle C's memories and in return gets his soul, and Leroy is now to help Enmity convert more people and build him a temple.

call me Anna or Kerns, (she/her), usually a DM, lgbtq+ friendly
our Drow wizard (lord valance) was framed for the murder of an elf noble. He attacked the one who framed him (the new noble of the town) in front of a crowd. The PCs intervened and banished him for a turn. That was the last session
in the current session our monk/rouge multi-class (something nightflower) grabbed lord Valance and flew off with a magic broom. The PCs who remained were granted a boon by the noble. Our dragon born warlock named dan asked for the robes of the arch magi and was gifted a telescope and advice on how to find a realty bending wizard tower.
nightflower and Lord Valance went to the king of the country that sent them on the quest to begin with. After hearing what happened the king striped Lord Valance of his land and titles. The PCs decided to try and frame the whole thing on the drow. Valance attacked the king yelling hail loth. After the attack he ran out of the window (probably because the king had legendary actions). Valance went to the PCs castle gorgons keep and waited there. Nightflower claimed to be surprised and was sent by the king to kill Valance. He went to the mage tower in gorgons keep where Valance was and they made plans to defend the castle from the rest of the country.
dan using the power of astronomy figured out that the wizard tower would appear by “town name” when the third sun of Necturn glowed brightest (the third moon of Neptune). So he got a map and went there. He found the wizard tower and upon entering was directed to the dean of transmutation. He then was told there were two ways to get to him he could climb some stairs to infinity or he could open THE BOX. He Chose THE BOX and was teleported to a lab where he saw the dean doing alchemy. After talking to him for a bit he found the robe on a coat hanger and took it.
In gorgons keep we have the PCs that aren’t here for the session wait there and a good amount were chaotic good. Upon hearing what happened a small rebellion was had and three catapults were fired at the mage tower. Valance responsed by casting sun bust. So we lost the castle. Valance retreated to the dwarves and made a deal with a arms dealer there. Nightflower was awarded lord ship of gorgons town.
Dan took a long rest in the tower and came out a week in the future. He was summoned by lord redwine an elfin noble the party was supposed to be investigated. The elf told him that the country he was sent by had branded all members of the devils chance (the party’s name) traitors and was hunting them down. Redwine also grabbed and amulet that dan was given by his patron and revealed himself to be dans patron and that the party had done his plans better then he had hoped. Dan thought about attacking red wine but decided that that was a bad idea.
the party that session
something nightflower monk/rouge currently lord of gorgons keep.
Valance drow wizard currently a vampire and the most wanted man on Mara
Dan dragon born warlock currently the only one who knows the real villain
We fought our way out of an arena that was starting to get overrun with otherworldly creatures (meta: star spawn) and we had to get to the "throne of power" to activate and combine our artifacts. Fissures and sinkholes were opening all around the city. We make our way to the park and find one of the larger emergence holes and slide our way down under the city.
STAR SPAWN MANGLERS ARE NO JOKE. My monk with 20 AC got clawed up so bad with it's Flurry of Claws. 5/6 attacks hit, one was a critical. 97 POINTS OF DAMAGE. At level 17, that's over half of my health in one string of attacks. Still sitting okay at ~60 HP, my monk pushes for a short rest.
Well, my players got into Xanather's hideout freed the prisoners and found a secret room of gunpowder and alchemist fire BUT OH NO. The fighter and the monklock decided to start arguing and the fighter was pushed into the room and decided the best way to deal with a borderline insane Beholder is to yell into the room holding a goldfish saying that Sylgar isn't the real one.....Now the way I see it Xanathar isn't all there and was now told the only thing he ever loved is a fake. He also isn't stupid and can put two and two together and come to the realization that his sylgar is long dead. So he screams and goes completely insane with rage.
I have no idea what to do now do I have Xanathar just go on a killing spree? Do I give them a do-over? Or hope they survive against what is about to happen? They have been told numerous times that Xanathar was unhinged and only loved his goldfish. I don't know what this player was thinking was going to happen

Dang. That's tough.
I admit I have not read the campaign that Xanathar is from, so if any of these ideas are laughably stupid, please do excuse me.
One option would be to have some sort of secret escape they could find.
Another (if I'm understanding correctly that Xanathar is in a room of gunpowder and alchemist's fire) is that Xanathar, in his insane rage, sets off the gunpowder, causing himself a lot of damage and thus weakening him. Of course, if that would also TPK the party, that won't work.
The third idea is to make one or more of the NPCs they just rescued turn out to be powerful adventurers, who then turn around and manage to save them just in time.
I don't know if that helps at all. A do-over is a possibility, although I know we as DMs hate to use those.

Olaf Ericsson, a jolly ranger with a bit of an anger problem. Also likes to sing. Yaethel Akeelan, a druid with a plan; a very, very big plan. Damien Rook, full time author, part time adventurer. Plays god on Saturdays.
We have started a quarantine campaign since we can't meet right now. We finished our latest mission of returning the person that broke out of prison. We found their secret hideout under a waterfall. There was also other people and there leader there, we attacked, almost had a tpk with how bad we were rolling, but by the end we got lucky and was able to do it. What we learned try to long rest if you can. We got more gold for bringing in the leader of the operation. We have been loving it. I had a character from my past show up and talk to me which I my character was not happy about as she is trying to get as far away from home as possible, but she wanted to give me information of what was going on and continue training me as I am a monk. A drunk guy in a bar almost killed one of our party members because he decided to punch him.
Our party exits a town that, just last night, had fallen under siege by a dragon, it's cultists, and mercenaries.
We'd promised to find out where this horde had gone to, and bring the information back to the governor so he could determine if the town would have to evacuate.
Our party tracks the where we believe they've gone...and encounters some mercenaries & kobolds cooking by a fire. Low-ranking, by the looks of it, and not too zealous.
So our Monk decides to disguise themself with a Disguise Kit given by my Warlock, making our Monk look like a Dragon Cultist.
Our Monk strides into the small camp, booming their voice and demanding that the kobolds rise against these mercenaries, who do not share the beliefs of the almighty blue dragon.
Two problems:
1. The kobolds speak only Draconic; our Monk does not.
2. Our Cleric panics and decides to just CHARGE the mercenaries, initiating combat.
Now, our Monk keeps committing to the bit; as he pummels the mercenaries, he keeps screaming at the kobolds to join them in killing the non-believers...pulling off a decent Deception check, granted advantage when my Warlock (Noble Genie Patron) fires a crackling bolt through the Monk's fingertips, making him look magical.
So the kobolds don't join us...but they seem terribly confused, so they retreat. Meanwhile, our Monk, Cleric, Druid and Warlock safely kill the mercenaries, save for one.
The monk interrogates the mercenary, who tells us that there is a larger camp ahead where everyone is at; but that there is at least one more small group between us we'll likely have to get through.
Which leaves this lone mercenary...as our party decides what to do with them, my Warlock calmly asks if the mercenary took part in the siege of the town from the night before.
The mercenary tentatively says yes...and my Warlock blasts him with Eldritch Blast, killing him.
The Monk (a reformed pirate) knocks my Warlock to the ground, demanding why I just executed the prisoner.
My Warlock had been scarred on his face by the cultists during the siege from the night before; so he had a bone to pick with them...but he also explained that the mercenary had taken part of a massacre of innocents, and did not deserve to live. Likewise...letting him leave runs the risk of him warning the other cultists of our presence.
These reasons are enough to convince the party, and we continue...meanwhile, my DM texts me that my Patron is amused by my Warlock's actions.
We fight the final small camp of mercenaries, this one containing two cultists, and we engage in an uphill battle...literally.
The cultists keep casting "Sanctuary", so our Monk and Cleric have difficulty landing hits. But slowly, we pick off the enemies, my Warlock the only one who goes down.
Our Cleric faces off with the last cultist; the cultists points their sword at my fallen Warlock and says he will make my severed head into a necklace after he kills the Cleric.
Our cleric says that they will make a sword from the cultists bones...so over all, weird threats.
The cultists sustains a grievous wound and kills himself; our Druid gets information from a crow about the encampment up ahead, and our Cleric starts sawing the cultists leg off, disturbing the crows around them. My Warlock is healed, and we plan what happens next.
They have been told numerous times that Xanathar was unhinged and only loved his goldfish. I don't know what this player was thinking was going to happen
Oh my, that is going to be insane!
Last night we broke into a cult's hideout, the sorcerer decided (once again, this player, no matter the character is known for wandering off, but doesn't play characters capable of soloing stuff) to roam off and walked into a room with over almost a hundred members of the cult holding a rally.
Luckily, we managed to stop the bosses, arrest most of the Cultists and discovered that an Eladrin had kidnapped our cleric during the fight.
The Party did surprisingly well. They chucked alchemist fire, did a decent job of staying out of Xanathar antimagic cone. most of the NPC's they saved didn't survive but one high-level spell caster they brought with them was a big help as everyone was running around the room trying to get his Key to the Vault ( in my game the crime bosses have actual keys) one of the prisoners they had with them was a spy for a different crime boss and she got the key for the party and went to work trying to get a secret door open that Xanathar uses as an escape route. The battle starts to go very bad as the fighter is low on health and the monklock fails his save vs the Death Ray and dies. The NPC spell caster sees how bad it's getting and banishes Xanathar for a bit when the party collects the dead and runs to the hidden room, while in there the spy finds and steals the Stone of Golorr. Once Xanathar returns he the party ignites the gun powder and Xanathar is buried in his own room and his hideout is destroyed. Their new friend a retooled Lady Silverhand brings back the dead and warns the party to never try that again. Two keys down Two keys and one Stone to go
What the party doesn't know, Because they rushed the room and kick-started combat is Beholders can dream up new beholders so while he isn't dead the mirror that stops him from dreaming is destroyed as it was crushed in the cave in. So once he is able to he will dream up a new Xanathar who will emerge in the city and take his revenge.
Also with the Stone of Golorr out in the open, it can be hot potatoed across the city with different NPCs stealing it from each other before the party can get to it
Characters: Level 5 Human Fighter (Champion) and level 5 Human Rogue (Assassin)
- Characters are now level 5 and on a way towards Goldfish Archipelago.
- This session was combat encounter with pirates who tried to capture the ship owned by the group.
- Most fun moments were during a fight inside pirate ship: A powder keg exploded, everyone took lot of damage, Rogue got unconsious but Fighter was able to rescue the Rogue and treasure chest from sinking ship.
- Characters captured one of the pirates as hostage and forced the pirate to join. Crew members increased from 6 to 7.
Just got done with my session. it was a light roleplay only session. But most notable thing is that my brother lost his chainmail after I rolled a 1 for the blacksmith. xD
I had a really cool double dragon fight set up, brass and white, fire and ice, it was gonna be great. But the ranger, whose player is horny for dragons, really didn't want to fight and rolled a 24 on her "can't we just talk about this" check. Now, the party had just brought a cave-in down on Steve White's head (not fatally, she was just gonna have the worst hangover of her life), so Steve Brass wasn't in the best of moods, but a 24 is really good, so he told them if they left right away, he wouldn't come after them.
Of course, the ranger's animal companions, as well as the two civilians the party were there to rescue, were on the other side of the cave-in, so abandoning them was... not really an option. So the ranger tried to sweeten the deal and offered to heal Steve White if Steve Brass would let them get their friends first. Ranger obviously meant, like, cure wounds on Steve White, but what she didn't know was that Steve White was in thrall to the faerie queen hecking things up in the area, and Steve Brass really wanted that enchantment to be broken, so it turned out that the ranger had completely accidentally said the only thing that could get them out of this situation without a fight.
Once Steve Brass explained the actual situation, ranger followed up with an 18 on her roll to persuade him that they could heal Steve White, which was unfortunately not enough to get him to just trust them out of hand. He was going to need concrete assurance of their ability to help Steve White. This enchantment was story magic, not just some spell anyone could dispel and call a day. But the druid believed he could do it (I'm not going to elaborate in case any of my players read this, there's a whole spoiler thing there about the druid's ability to do something literally no one else would be able to), and he rolled a natural 20 to break the faerie queen's spell. "Doing the thing" is just about as concrete an assurance as can possibly be, so Steve Brass very gratefully allowed them to take the people they were there to save, as well as some dragon scales for armor purposes.
And that's the story of how, through an absolutely stupid amount of luck and circumstance, I didn't get to run my cool dragon fight, but did get to give my ranger a panic attack and my druid some Questions to Ponder.
I'm thinking that the faerie queen is going to be /very/ displeased about losing her pet dragon. Most displeased...

Without too many spoilers, the party in last night's game got to the Unicorn or the Hollyphant choice. And suddenly, four people who like a certain actor aren't too happy with him or me right now. Thanks, Joe! :)

The first time I planned a boss fight, the party sneaked up on him, whacked him a couple times on the head, cast Charm Person and he failed despite advantage, and they just took him prisoner. XD

So today, the warlock was disguised to go through the town and ask questions as though she was a stranger. Of course, she has a giant, unmistakable sword. So she left it at the inn with my character, Olaf, who offered to watch it. She said, "If anything happens to it, I'll kill you."
"Noted."
Olaf wasn't worried. Well, the sword was a pact weapon, and the warlock had forgotten that they disappear after a few minutes of being left alone and can simply be summoned again. So with the disappearance of the sword and a couple of low rolls, Olaf was convinced that invisible spies were there and had overheard the conversation. He looked for them, and when he saw a cat outside was convinced that the cat was the shapeshifting thief. So he captured the cat and put it in a bag, and on the way back, ran into the cabin of a witch. He soon put two and two together that the cat belonged to the witch. So he went to drop off the cat, pretending he was just trying to help, and then snoop to see if the "cat" told her anything.
The witch was infuriated that he had put the cat into the bag and Eldritch Blasted him. He tried to talk her down but was forced to defend himself.
And then his friends showed up, the warlock with her giant sword. He tried to tell everyone to do nothing and tell the witch there had been a mistake, but it didn't work. The witch ended up dead because two people didn't listen to him and killed her and he was furious. He was also furious because, where the heck did the sword go?
So after some screaming by Olaf and an apology from the warlock, the half-orc attempted to apologize but due to a low roll (a 2) made Olaf even more angry. So it looks like we'll be starting the next session with a fistfight. The bard (our party's unofficial therapist, but especially Olaf's) will definitely try to break it up, though.
At least everyone else got useful information. XD
BTW: Out of character, we were told the witch was evil, but Olaf doesn't know that.

Our DM's bled our party resources to the breaking point. After our last session, we were able to get in a short rest before we went into an old ruin infested with orcs. Our mission is to retrieve a human who'd escaped custody we were a bit low on resources before tonight, and now, we're about dry. We crawled through the dungeon killing orcs which bled our party resources down. we managed to pick up some nice loot, but the session was mostly your bog standard classic dungeon crawl; fun but not terribly interesting. It's a heck of a setup for the next session though.
We're at the bottom of the dungeon now with two humans around a corner from us where we could hear them talking. One of them is the escaped prisoner, who was a handful the /first/ time we had to catch him. The second one we don't know, but we suspect he's the one who helped the first escape, so he's likely powerful. We picked up some information; there's definitely some kind of conspiracy...the humans we're hunting are stirring up the orcs and apparently goblins as well. The long rest we /want/ is not an option. The short rest we /need/ is also not an option. We're going in with what we have left, and it's not much. The wizard is in pretty good shape. I think he has a third, a second and all his first level spell slots left. That's the good news. The bad news is, the Cleric|Paladin is dry. He has no remaining spell slots. He's used all his hit dice, and has 2 points of Lay Hands left. The Barbarian|Rogue is out of rage. My Bard|Warlock has one 2nd level warlock spell slot left (used rod of the pact keeper already), 2 healing light dice, and 1 bardic inspiration dice. I'm out of bard spell slots entirely. We've got some healing potions. The wizard is likely going to need to pull a rabbit out of his hat, because I'll have to use my resources on keeping the melees on their feet...so just eldritch blast from me. No smites from the paladin, and no damage soak from the barbarian.
The level of resource bleed we're running into and the way the party's working (I was planning to do damage, but I am turning into the party supporter) is making me re-consider my character plans. I was going to take Warlock 4 to get my ASI next level. I was going to go Bard 3 after that, then back to warlock for the long haul. Now, I am starting to think I might go Bard 3 next level to get the extra second level spell slots from Bard. Since we're not getting the buffs/heals we expected from the Cleric|Paladin (the wizard originally said he'd play a cleric or paladin depending on what the Cleric|Paladin decided to play, then threw up his hands and made a wizard when the MC was announcecd), I've been keeping people on their feet with the warlock. I'm starting to question that maybe I should think of myself as a bard with a warlock dip instead of the warlock with a bard dip that I was originally planning.

the elf noble and his guards went to find out how he got such an item.

Dak'amu restores Uncle C's memories and in return gets his soul, and Leroy is now to help Enmity convert more people and build him a temple.

our Drow wizard (lord valance) was framed for the murder of an elf noble.

Campaign 2, 4th session:
Characters: Level 2 Half-orc Fighter, Level 2 Rock Gnome Sorcerer and Level 2 Mountain Dwarf Ranger
- This session was played some time ago but I forgot to write these things.
- We went to investigate a large warehouse and found barrels of blood and some vampires. (DM is using vampires as low level creatures like kobolds)
- It was basic dungeon crawl but we had fun again by just rolling dice and doing some crazy combat stuff.
- When we returned back to town from warehouse we found our quest giver dead and that was end of the session.
Also with the Stone of Golorr out in the open, it can be hot potatoed across the city with different NPCs stealing it from each other before the party can get to it
