Just had some riddles. The answers were the names of deceased PCs from the campaign. (I run a pretty deadly campaign.) They got all the answers, but not every player got an answer, which was the rule. So they had to fight a couple Flameskulls for the ones they didn't get.
I had a good session where the players Role Played, got some pets, and killed some monsters harassing a hermit potion maker on their way to their next mission. Overall felt pretty good about it.
It was good. We actually finished the campaign (Dragon of Icespire Peak) We beat it at 3RD LEVEL!!!!! Yep, 3 dragonborns and good Charisma modifiers probably saved our lives... Not the most satisfying end, but still really fun

Hi!!!! My pronouns are She/They!
Picture a halfling riding a flumph and be happy!!!!!

That’s funny. My players are in that too. And I agree at their current level they could beat the dragon. Which is why I am improving a few things with hints of what os to come later.
Out of curiosity did they retrieve ve the items from the Dragon Barrow before fighting Cryoain?
My last regular campaign session as a DM involved my players starting the game convinced they're going to finally get going on the main plot...and within moments getting distracted by funny sidequests. Who needs to engage with a dragon when there are zucchini to give away!
I also ran a one shot for charity last week, and despite knowing in the core of my soul how little of an adventure can actually happen in a one shot...I was once again surprised by how quickly the players just wanted to goof off with each other! LOL!
In both cases the players were having fun so I was happy to help them be silly, but it was absolutely a reminder about how sometimes the best D&D has nothing to do with a D&D adventure!
In the Ongoing Curse of Strahd campaign, things have been taken up a notch
So the party of lvl 8 Mischievers manage to go through the catacombs and ALL of the crypts ( the place is HUGE with many crypts, encounters, traps and loot)
So much loot that Both the Firbolg Cleric/Druid and the Goliath Fighter, actually are nearly at max carrying capacity...BOTH.
And they had a STUPID amount of coins, usually i'm not for counting coins as part of the weigth, but when its like under 4000gp, but when you reach levels of having like 8000cp, 4500Sp and 3200gp..., having it weight nothing is kinda...
So now we use the encumbrance rules, wich forced them to be more selective with what they slog around.
Another consequence is that now they use Copper coins as "pebbles" when they want to activate a trap at a distance :p, their reasoning be that they have so much of it, and seeing how Trading works in barovia, they can hardly buy anything with any of this for the moment.
Anyway...
Lets get to the meat and potatoes of this shall we?
After disturbing the Count's Brides in his Crypt, they where severly beat up, low on ressources and had some of their Max HP drained by all these Blood suckers and wigths around...
But they still managed to clear ALL the crypts and then started to go up the corridor that led to the Ritual room, with the 2 Iron Golems and the Teleportation device.
After taking sometime finicking with the Device, one of them decides to go up the stairs to see where it leads.
Doing so he activates an Illusion trap, where an Illusiory image of the Count with a "prerecorded" message springs into existance.
The party are starting to sweat profusely, since they still have'nt recovered from the previous fights and where low on ressources.
Now normaly that be it, the illusion taunts them, but after a while dissapears...
BUT...in their panic the AT Rogue launch a Spell on the Illusion, wich also damage the door of the room..., and if the Door, the Brasero( teleportation device) are damaged..., the 2 Iron Golems activatesd and attacks the party...
Now i kinda hoped for this...,wait let me finish..., its not what you think...
See one of the party member is a DMPC that i was controling, it was something from the first sessions where the party din't have a Frontline figther type character, the party was made off a Bard, a Sorceror, a Druid and a rogue, so all squishies, and since it was their first campaign in 5E, i was worried, so i added a Tiefling Paladin, he would not participate much into the group decisions and really just barely help them in fights (no cheese or anything cool), and he would provide some informations really when asked and only what he would knew.
Now a few sessions further another person joined with the Goliath Figther, so my DMPC became redundant, and i thought to simply let him die or make him dissapear in the mists...
But then i though about something, just killing him off or have him vanish would be lame, a scheme formed in my head...
I made it so that the players actually liked him, he would crack jokes, provide advice and be helpfull( barely as to not shift the ablance of encounters or exploration, but enouhg to make him entincing to them), and THEN have him either be gruesomly killed in front of their eyes or Sacrificing himself to let them escape certain Doom.
Only for him to be turned into a Death Knight for them to face off later on, now i'm not using a Death Knight statblock, even if they reach the highest possible level before the end of the campaign, it would still be a HUGE challenge ( even tho they managed to trivialize some of the toughest encounters with their wits and ingeniunity, so...who knows)
It will be just the character sheet with a DK template (resistances, immunitites, and some of the abilities).
What i'm after is the emotional implications, they would be reunited with a comrade they thought Lost, only to realise that it isn't the case with Horror on their faces has he turns against them with a "I'm Sorry my Friends, but i cannot let you interfere with the Master's Plans any longer, i hope you do not ressent me too much".
So Coming back to the "desperate" situation, seeing whats going on i took the opportunity, The Golems managed to get in some serious hits leaving even the Goliaht low on health and the 2 Poison clouds they both breathed down on them makes it even more dangerous.
So The Paladin Tiefling Yells at them to grab one of the stones and get the hell out of here, and that he will buy them some time.
Using Command to order both Golems to stop and stay still, so now they have to hurry since it will only last a turn.
For a moment they are thinking about taking this chance to strike the Golems, but they are seeing the Count's Illusion still advancing through the doorway in their direction, itsd enough to scare them, and they all go in the Brasero and ended up in Tsolenka Pass.
They waited for a few minutes, but their Paladin friend, never showed up...
Stranded deep in the freezing mountains, with no way to contact or know what happened to him, they imagined the worst possible scenario...,a nd they where sad, the characters had an emotional moment ala LotR when the party has to go out of Moria leaving Gandalf behind.
My Plan Worked to perfection, even 2 sessions later (they are now going for the Amber Temple...), they are still thiking of a way to go back and help their Friend, they even considered using the Wish from the Luck Blade they have for it, but unsure they where of what happened and how it would work, they decided to keep the Wish for now and not squander it...
I love when i plan comes togheter...
Now i'm planning for this future "Reunion" with glee...(even tho it will take a while before we get there) he will be a Conquest Paladin with 2-3 levels of Undying Warlock (seems fitting) and he will have a Horde of skeletons and some other Nasties under his command ( while it seems excesive, even at their current level they could very easely take down Strahd, thats also why i will use the Enhanced Strahd statblock from Elven Tower for the final figth to make it at least interesting, and they allready have enough powerfull items to help them, the Castles Crypts is really PACKED with items, the Staff of Power, the Luck Blade, they've foudn the Sunsword in the Crypts and they allready had the Symbol of Ravenkind prior to that)
But we'll first have to go through the Ambre Temple, and then they've mostly reached the end of the campaign, there's only the Marshes of Berez left with the Hag and the Mad Mage, but since they never got up this far North, chances are that they will not bother with this.
There is still some political plot left in Vallaki, wich could turn in a number of ways if they decide to get involved or not.
We'll see.

"Normality is but an Illusion, Whats normal to the Spider, is only madness for the Fly"
My last session was actually my first one! Had so much fun. This whole world of DnD seems like...huuuuge, and I cant wait to discover more :) Im lucky to be doing this with friends, or I think I would have found all of this too intimidating.

That is wonderful to hear. Always great to start with at least one friend at the table, both for the support at the table and the reminiscing after. I wish you well in your adventures to come.
Well currently we have one ranger in our party and two wizards. When the session started though there was only one but a new guy joined and now we have two high elf wizards and i feel like im in a sea of vanilla ice cream ( Aka the wizards ). But it started with the characters getting a bunch of pet possums they snared. Then the ranger saw a group of dead rodents near the well in the garden. They chose to shoot an arrow from their long bow into the well and they got a nat20. The well crumbled to bits and there were two giant poisonous snakes in it. It took a long time ( Because our first wizard was being a bit hard with me the dm ) but eventually they killed the snakes and two of the characters were knocked out and the wizard dragged them into the house. Then the now conscious ranger used beast sense on his weasel and sent him to scout. The weasel arrived in are 4 and the ranger touched a trap door with magic mouth it said " Welcome...TO YOUR DOOM. ". Then a scout came and surprised the players and a bandit covered her. And after that every body had to go.

One of my players tried to catch a fish with his special OP Greatsword and dropped it into the lake so had to use his shortsword against the Dragon.
I killed a minotaur with a critical maximum damage hit the first turn in the fight, I used sneak attack rapier with assassin btw.
Just found out our DM fudged a dice roll. Still it felt good to kill a strong monster cause everyone said my character was the worst
Not my favourite tbh I prefer wizards

Cut short because our DM, a farmer, got a call to say some of his cows had escaped and were on public land.
Not heard THAT one before.

Wow, that is so nice of you to say! Thanks a lot! I can imagine it all being too intimidating if I was all alone :)
Unfortunately two of my players have left within the last session.
My first player, a monk, left due to him moving. His send off was SO awesome!
My second player, a wizard, has left due to disinterest. He was probably my worst player who has never really payed any attention.
So I've got 3 out of the OG 5 left.
A New DM up against the World
Last session the PCs decided to enter an ancient Gnome tomb in the Underdark. They opened the front door and were confronted by a Tomb Tapper.
Oh, I'm in Jail again, again. Don't ask why it was a dumb reason.
