I am planning on a warlock with the genie pact, specifically an efreet, and that got me wondering if genies could be of different alignments or even seek redemption for past evils in the case of an efreet or turn to evil like an evil djinn?
Most genies tend to chafe under authority not their own, so trying to get away from their rules to set up their own little domain is a common thing for them.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
There's never (to my knowledge) been anything in the game stating whether noble genies are born that way or are regular genies who become that way somehow. If the GM wants them to, they can, I suppose.

Yeah, I agree. Much like devils/demons as covered in the "falling celestials and rising fiends" thread, I feel that genies can have different alignments than the default and/or interact with traditional leader differently, though how common this is and how much the players interact with it is all up to the DM.

Sure, it's always possible.

Cool! And somewhat related to the topic can genies (both normal and noble) be independent from their people's rulers or are they all beholden to them?
Genies can be different alignments and they can be independent from the power structure.

That raises a good question. Can regular genies rise up to become noble genies?
