Expecting to get to level 5 for sure, probably lvl 8 cap.
Hoping to build an Echo Knight, but not settled on what build I want to go with. I'm expecting lots of verticality, and my team has NO healers XD (DM promises a good about of health potions, we shall see).

I understand, I know it’s technically the more optimized option. The simple answer is that I’d like to have more options in the game early on than just hitting things, as my dm runs maybe one combat a day, and last attempt was fairly brutal for RP when my character was mostly combat centric.
I also get fairly bored of characters, so I like have variety early to keep my more invested as the game goes on.
but these builds I’ve kind of moved on from now. The only one I’m still considering is the undead/fighter for the ghost lance build, which is more of a blaster which can fight at low levels.
ive since looked at going 1 fighter/3 sorcerer or 4 sorcerer to go for a shadow blade build. I’m really shooting for variety as a gish, and not as worried about sustained combat as combats were rather sparse last time around.
If you want a versatile gish with lots of RP / non-combat options, I'd massively recommend Valor Bard. At low levels skills are your main way of contributing outside of combat and Bard gets really awesome options for skills. Valor with medium armour, a shield makes you a solid melee character. You can pick up Magic Initiate (wizard) as your background feat for True Strike to enable you to use your CHA for both melee and ranged weapon attacks plus Shield that will make you as tanky as a Paladin. You have both healing and control spells and options to pick up good ritual spells. At 4th level you can pick up Fey Touched for teleportation fun. You can also always MC into Paladin later if you want even more melee power.

Another option is a Valor Bard that takes a single level dip into Warlock to get Pact of the Blade. That would let you use your Charisma to make your weapon attacks, after level 6 you get a second attack that you can use to cast a cantrip (Vicious Mockery works well here for debuffing, or take Magic Initiate Wizard to get True Strike or Booming Blade for more melee power). With being able to go all-in on charisma, and medium armor to get you to a respectable AC (19 with mundane Half Plate and Shield), you have the option of playing as either ranged caster or melee brawler in every fight. Not to mention the fun you will have absolutely trivializing social encounters with Enhance Ability + Expertise with Persuasion and/or Deception.
Though if you're last attempt to go all in on combat was unfun. Might I suggest not doing any "build" and instead making a character you enjoy RPing as? Flavour is free, no amount of MCing will make your character cool and interesting, if you aren't able to imagine or flavour what your character does as cool or interesting.

Why are you multiclassing before level 5? you are crippling your melee without extra-attack at 5th level.
