Like I said most if not all the DMs games have a high death count. He just tells us to play smarter.
If your DM allows the Echo Knight, then that would be a good subclass to play with b/c of how replaceable the Echo is. Also, Totem Barbarian or a Shepherd Durid for added toughness in combat.

That sounds like the GM thinks that the game should be GM vs players and doesn't care about whether or not you're having fun.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I guess it depends on how high/low a body count one enjoys in a game.
