I’ll take whatever we can get. At this point we need a ‘grand unified solution’ for the ranger- by that I mean alternate core class features à la Mike Mearls’ work and something to address the very divisive Beast Master (I accept some people find it ok but many others don’t).
I wonder if there might be someway to do that within the current constraint of not invalidating the printed form?
E.g. A subclass that can be 'all things to all rangers' ala Druid of the Land - some core features plus choosing a biome/domain/specialty that has a bundle of thematic content.
But, so as not to be entirely of-topic, what is the silliest thing people would throw for Conjure Volley? ^_^
I'm tempted by a trident for 'wrath of the sea' style assault from a (comic book) Aquaman paladin who doesn't realize he's seen as a goofball - since tridents are the least practical weapon with the Thrown trait - but it is just so tempting to throw a humble light hammer while yelling "drop the hammer!"

It’s not a bad idea for a patch actually. And it could be effectively home brewed on DDB to test its popularity!
FFS. Once again the poor bedraggled ranger gets ignored. If there are two classes in all of D&D that need no support whatsoever it’s the bard and paladin. Cheers Wizards.
While I agree that Ranger needs a MAJOR overhaul, that doesn't mean that the other classes shouldn't get subclasses and other content. It looks like they will be releasing stuff for each class with these UA's so sit tight. That being said, I really hope they followed through with that modular update system that Mike Mearls was looking at. Basically it gave you a bunch of side options that you could replace certain core class features with. Don't want spells on your ranger? Replace the Spellcasting feature with a non-magical Hunter's Mark like effect with other benefits. It sounded super cool.
On the topic of these two new subclasses;
The bard has so many hilarious character opportunities. Traveling Lawyer for Adventurers who step out of line? A Half-Elf Motivational Speaker who hosts TED talks in every town the party goes to? A self-help guru with a bunch of faux-spiritualist bull crap? So many possibilities.
And the Paladin... not much to say but an excellent option for those who wanna go full folk hero background. Love it.
The Universal Speech feature would be super useful in the campaign I'm running right now. Doing a "strangers in a strange land" deal, so nobody here speaks common or any of the normal shared languages. Being able to instantly communicate would be extremely useful.
I like the concept of the Eloquence bard; I'm a sucker for the novelty of being able to double down on being the support role. Though, the capstone feature at lvl 14 is a little drab. Making your inspiration even more effective is good, but it doesn't feel like an exciting new ability.
The Heroism paladin is also a really good concept, flavor wise. The kit seems really solid, and very on theme. But it also just sounds fun from a roleplay perspective. I can see rolling one up and finally choosing Int for the dump stat and playing the "god you're so lucky you're cute" jock type.
Honestly, I think the best jokes with the Heroism Paladin is that one could play a Paladin so self assured in themselves that they don't realize they're a jerk about it. Rescues a family from a roving band of bandits? "Man, you're lucky I showed up. You'd have been toast otherwise."

Captain Hammer? Yeah, I was just remarking that this Oath is probably the most selfish or self centered of the Oaths.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Here's the thing. I'm dming a zombie-based game where THE MUTHA****IN TICKkinda got poped into this reality. We made him a Warforged Devotion paladin, BUT NOW THAT THERES AN OATH OF HEROISM THAT WOULD FIT HIM PERFECTLY. Hope in comes to dndb soon cause I'm sure the player would wanna switch into that lol

I now want to create a strength based unarmed melee specialist Half Orc Oath of Heroism Paladin with a birth defect giving him blue skin instead of green LOL.

I just realized: These two new subclasses would allow you to create a prospective hero and his personal trainer.
Basically, Phil and Hercules.
Eloquence Bard: "Keep your shield up, rookie!"
Heroism Paladin: "Like this...!?!"
(CRACK)
Eloquence Bard: "You gotta keep your blind spot covered, rookie."
Heroism Paladin: "But I cannuh...see anyfing et all."
Eloquence Bard: Concussions are for normies, rookie. Shake it off."
Yeah...I can see the fun to be had here.

Oath of Heroism. I'm reading the abilities and it feels like I'm looking at a "Chad" meme'd subclass. Cool stuff overall.
