I am not super fond of running premade campaigns, but I must say, this adventure looks pretty fun. I might keep this one in my back pocket for a day when one of my groups might be short a couple players and just use it as a goofy one-off adventure for that week’s session.
Plus, I am a sucker for a good in medias res opening.
Gonna ask, like I've asked with the others: is there actually any character creation content in here, or is it really just adventure material? I don't want to pick it up if it's adventure-only, since I don't DM and don't want to spoil myself.
These freebies have me checking the banner more carefully, which might be part of the point.
I also have to say that I really approve of the idea of these tasters. At least the way they have this time - I'm a lot more comfortable trying these tasters to see if I like it before I spend money on it. Spelljammer was quite firmly in the "maybe later" pile, but if we play these and enjoy it, I might buy it for mysel- uh, I mean, for my wife for her birthday. Definitely for my wife.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

On the flip side if your DM wants to run it and doesn't already have it, it would allow you to give them the adventure.
Hm. Would have hoped for a bit more details, what Spelljammer in 5e actually is... especially in comparison to the original setting. Well, just a teaser adventure for now.
Just a hunch, but while I don't see character creation options in this supplement, I imagine there might be a new magic item or two that can be integrated into the sheet from this adventure. Maybe a new spell to add to the lists. There's a few more parts on the way.
It is a great intro chapter. Only one thing is unclear to me: Does the PCs start with equipment or not? they get a free weapon and a 50 gp cupon to by equipment in the store rooms but they start the adventure with a simulated battle. So what do they have acces to in that battle.

I just claimed the thingy (not likely to actually use it but free stuff is free stuff and it says "Spelljammer" on it so *click*) and haven't read it yet, but the first thought that comes to mind is "If it's a simulation they can have just about anything." If you're running it for new players, give them a small arsenal for it and tell them to go nuts trying things out, with the reminder that they don't really have the items yet. That might give them at least an idea of what kind of kit they want when they get to shopping time.

I disagree with some of this. I think part of the point is specifically hiding from the players that they are in a simulation - the Kobayashi Maru presented in the chapter will be a lot more fun if they do not have metagame knowledge that this is not the real world.
To that end, I would either give them starting equipment as normal, or give them the ability to choose an extra uncommon item or so… then tell them after the simulation that the uncommon was part of the simulation and to remove it from their sheets. No use telling them ahead of time that certain things were simulation only, since that would spoil the fun of revealing it was an impossible to win simulation.
Again, I haven't read it. But based on what you just said I'd be tempted to just give them some pimped out gear if it's a "secret" sim just to mess with them. All the most awesome toys can't help them succeed. Then "Congratulations! You're not really all dead! But you also don't have that awesome gear, here's your 50gp coupon to get a basic kit at the armory downstairs."
Also, as you may have spotted from the layout of the table of contents, there are more adventures in this series coming very soon - also at no cost to you, because we love Spelljammer too and want y'all to be able to have some fun with it before the main product is released.

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.

Thanks -- I figured, given past history, but they keep wording the page like there is, which really irks me.

No problem. I was going to say more, but I didn’t want to risk spoilers.

I just ran it last night and let them start with equipment like normal. I let them have a bit of fun with the 50 gp.
