So we are starting a 3.5 game and I need some help. I would like advice on, based on my idea, if there is any existing rulesets that would make this character more already in compliance, then having to create something new. Im looking for three things based on the character
1. class that would work 2. If there is a Knowledge occult of something 3. if there is a...occult hunters toolset (a kit full of things that help break possession , and purifies and such)
Character idea. With the rise of evil new types of fighters called Hexxers are being trained specifically to combat the demons and occult forces that threaten them. A young Tiefling male orphan has been chosen to learn the ways of the Hexxers, the town believing in using a demon to fight demons.
I was thinking ranger, with a DM/GM request that I have knowledge occult (if that's a thing) instead of knowledge nature. I was also thinking fighter with the same thing. I don't want to do cleric because that will clash with allot of things and make the character not work.
Been a long time since I've played 3.5, but knowledge arcana covers magic and magic effects(I think knowledge about monstrosities and aberrations), knowledge religion covers undead and I think demons/devil's. I suspect what you are looking for would be a prestige class.
Edit: toolkit would be manually put together, wooden stakes, holy water, silver plated weapons ECT.
What you are asking for is pretty readily available in the rules, with the straight cut closest being the monster slayer anger type, as there is no multi classing required. I did not find this class particularly fun myself, as I often play Occult detective types, so I would like to offer a few alternatives.
1) Paladin (vengeance, but really any will do) - remember that paladins do not have to have divine favour and can be driven by ideals as often as not. This means you can smite the hell out of the monsters and have a few cleansing spells
2) hexblade- if the Hexxers give you a specialised weapon as part of the organisation (a whip dipped in salt or a gun that fires rosary beads, whatever) this will fit what you are after but has a distinctly "bad" vibe going on, especially with raising spectres
3) my fave! A multiclass of swashbuckler and bladesinger. Stay with me! As a rogue you get 4 skills, and expertise in 2 - using background, you may take arcana. use your expertise in either arcana, stealth or perception whatever floats your boat. Then, take 2 levels of bladesinger, this will give you access to the following: increased AC, Detect magic (as a ritual no spells slots used) to find summoners and necromancers, comprehend languages to discern rituals and chants and also find familiar. Use booming blade and misty steps and flit around as a swasbuckler stabbing up the demons and choosing your fights as you see fit. The caveat of this one is that it requires you dm to allow non elves to be a bladesinger, but I have never encountered a DM enforcing the elf only line. This later grants you the very flavourful spells of Protection from good and evil, counterspell, and potentially magic circle.
4) bloodhunters- dislike the class personally, but it is semi legal and fits the bill

Again, this sounds like 5e mechanics and the OP asked about 3.5.
OP: You might be better off asking in the DnD section of the enworld forums, and DDB is designed only for 5e. You'll likely find more 3.5 players there, and you can tag your post for which edition you are playing.

Ranger Horizon Walker or Monster Slayer. Bloodhunter with any subclass. I would probably multiclass with a fighter to round out combat options.
As far as I know, those are all 5e subclasses, and the OP is asking about 3.5.

The horizon walker was a prestige class in 3.5, that said not sure it's particularly on theme
