So we been using manual hp. Last session they reach level 3 and i made them roll their hd and add their con mod. They then added it to their max hp by adjusting Max hp modifier. Now I'm checking their characters to see if they miss anything when they level up so we can be ready for the next session. I see that they have more hp than I written in my notes and went to check next to their max hp is () and the extra hp is written there. Each of my players have something different. Is there something in the rules that would give them those hp or am I missing something? Any help would be nice.
As new players, they likely just mathed wrong. Just go over it with them next session and see where they got it wrong. Fixing it as a group will help them learn.

I got to the end of the second sentence and thought "uh oh." Yeah, DDB adds CON mod automatically even for manual HP. That way if you get an ASI and boost CON, it is automatically correct.
Hello everyone, I am a new comer to the world of DND. I have a couple of questions for all of the veteran DND players that I need answered.
1. Do shields increase your armor class?
2. I play a paladin character, so when I level up, do I gain an extra 2 proficiency points every time I level up, or do I stay at +2 proficiency? Like can I level up my armor class or weapons each time I gain a level or do they stay the same until a certain point?

Please let me know. Thank you.
1. Yes. Shields increase AC. It is their purpose.
2. Proficiency bonus gets added to d20 rolls you are proficient at, attacks with proficient weapons, spell attacks, proficient saves, and proficient skills. Class features, racial traits, and backgrounds give you proficiencies. The bonus goes up by 1 at specific character levels (5, 9, 13, 17). For reference the character sheet on DDB adds proficiency bonus automatically.
Thank you for the clarification, so another question then: You said that shields increase AC, so if my base armor class was 18, and I am now level three, I just aquired a shield, then what would my armor class be? My character is proficient with shields, and at level 3 the DND guide to a paladin (my character) is +2, would my armor class be 20?

Yes your armor class would be 20, but not because of proficiency. Shields add a +2 to AC (more only if magic).
Proficiency bonus is mostly added to roll modifiers.
Getting AC to or above 20 without magic items is difficult.

The manual HP is a little confusing. They probably put in the total (roll + mod) when they actually just need to put in the roll.
