Just got my notification that Beyond is going to be making a “game-changing” announcement tomorrow. However, as I am an impatient sort and often succumb to speculation and fan theories, I want to discuss what the possibilities are.
My thoughts go along the lines of character sheets finally coming to the mobile app or the encounter builder coming forward as a final version to be incorporated amongst the DM tools for campaign. Hopefully with an initiative tracker.
Just curious what you all thought the announcement might entail.
I am very curious, I really hope it is the Encounter Builder w/ Initiative tracker. Maybe with integrated dice rolling, I know they were working on that.
Maybe a VTT has been in the works this whole time! ...sadly I highly doubt it. They seem to concentrate on the in-person experience, just a digital form of it.
A new addition would be a WotC announcement ...and....Considering WotC already held a big D&D announcement last week with nothing but more plans for 5e, I wouldn’t fret over current material going obsolete any time soon.
Let’s just keep focused on what Beyond would be announcing and hopefully bringing to the table.
I think the only news that could trump everything already listed would be that they officially put their hat in the ring for a Beyond VTT as it’s been asked for as a “planned” feature with no further developments the past three years or more. But, focusing on what we know Beyond has been working on and already shows strengths in, I definitely feel a safe bet guessing the offline character sheet and or encounter builder with initiative tracker.
personally, i want almost everything mentioned here. but I really need loot tables i can reference or some kind of loot generator. Please oh please, dieties, let it be something good!
I noticed mine specifically said for "D&D Beyond subscribers." I wonder if I'm reading too much into that or if that means the subscribers are getting something fancy.

Well....apparently I'm an idiot and got so excited I didn't make it far enough to see that it said "for our subscribers". lol! Well, I guess that means it likely won't be any of the things we've mentioned here. Dang. :(
But, that does mean something is STILL happening! And I still can't wait for DnDBeyond Subscriber Christmas tomorrow morning! Yay!
It's the combat tracker. Adam basically said as much within the first few minutes of the last dev update, i.e. that there was 'something' that was so close to being ready that he was really annoyed he couldn't announce it on the update, and then went straight to talking about the combat tracker.
The other option is that it's the dice roller. I really hope it's not that 'cause I plain just don't give a shit about it whereas a combat tracker is something I desperately need/want.

From version v0.0.83 in about December all the way up to a week or so ago where it suddenly jumped to v0.0.87, and now to v0.1.0, it has to be the Combat Tracker.
Gonna be so disappointed if it's not the Combat Tracker...

A combat tracker is actually exactly what I want. I often times build my encounters here, then have to pull up another site that doesn't have the characters to load them in
Hoping on the Encounter Builder too! I am always flipping b/w Beyond and Encounter + when running a game. But does that warrant an announcement like this, is that how things happen around here. I am new to following these kinds of developments. Regardless I am excited and can't wait to hear. I love everything they are doing.

Well if you want to be literal, a "game changing" announcement could be an announcement that the site is changing which game they support.
