For a character I'm making I'm trying to do a caster completely skinned as mundane. Of course things lik EB and Firebolt could be a shot from a gun, fireball as a grenade type thing, but what can you all think of for some spells to be completely skinned as mundane?
This is basically the suggestion for artificers, so look there for some more examples -- salves or potions for healing spells or protection/restoration spells, goggles or a spyglass of some sort for detection spells.
Potental problem with this: If the effects are not magical, then things that can only be affected by magic/resist magic in some way will be effected differently then if they were magical. That seems like a pretty massive thing that goes beyond just a reskinning.
My first question would be how you’re reskinning the casting stat. If it’s mundane, why is your “gunshot” more accurate and hits harder as you get smarter? Why is the explosion from your mundane “grenade” harder to dodge when you’re more intelligent, not when you have better aim? The “item” presumably being better crafted only carries so far.
The second would be if/how/why you could or could not pass these mundane items on to others so they could use them.

I actually think INT is the easiest case of this to explain -- you get better at calculating angles, distance, wind velocity, accounting for movement, etc. Charisma is harder to find an explanation for (unless you're talking psychic damage, then you're fine).

"Play the game however you want to play the game. After all, your fun doesn't threaten my fun."
If the dm allows it, I don't see a problem with that.

I'd like to reskin Zone of Truth as someone flashing a .44 magnum and giving Dirty Harry's "Do I feel lucky?" monologue.
