The home brew options for D&D beyond so poorly implemented. I want to run a campaign, my campaign in a world I've been running for decades. But every time I get the inspiration to start adding home brew content on here I am quickly reminded that it is pointless and a near impossible task. Such simple things are just not possible. For example, why can't I create non magical items?!?!? Seriously, this is soooo basic. I can't create variations of weapons/armor/equipment specific to my world? And no, I'm not using the magic item tag for that. Let's not get started on the flustercluck that is creating new sub classes or feats... This is why I give up and just play instead of running my game world. F$#%ing covid, I just want things to go back to the way they were without needing everything to be digital.

Not even the coders create nonmagical items, they just create common "magical" items.

Even so, you still can't create a custom weapon without having to tie it to an existing weapon, it's proficiency, and weapon traits. It's a crap system. It's just not robust enough, or organized properly, to allow for real custom/homebrew content.

No, they have to be able to create nonmagical items. “Common” magic items are still magic items, and the character sheet can separate Magic from nonmagical items. If you check the “common” box when adding equipment to inventory but don’t check the “magic” box, it will only display nonmagical items. If you only check the “magic” box. But not the “common” box it will only display magic items, including “common magic items.” That confusion is DDB’s fault for using the word “common” instead of “nonmagical,” “mundane,” “equipment,” or something similar.

That’s because it isn’t designed to create custom/homebrew content. It was designed for the Devs to use to create official content with full admin access. They just let us use their system with restricted User access.
Before you start creating homebrew, please be aware that you have access to the same tool that the development team use to create content. This means it is both powerful and complex - and can be confusing at first.
The staff team have provided release notes, which are worth reading before you delve into these tutorials.
