I wanted to create an item which uses on of the character's remaining hit die to power up an attack.
So right now, it would be a dagger +1, but if the user has 5 remaining hit die (which would mean the remaining charges), the user can expend one to add 2d6 poison damage.
Adding the number of charges is not really a problem because it is the character's level, but I was wondering if it was possible to change automaticly the remaining charges if the player uses a Hit Die during a short rest.

No, there is no way to get the character sheet to have the magic item interact with the character sheet’s pool of hit dice.
