Hello everyone, I'm rather new to dnd community and a brand new DM for my family. But i want to create something special since I'm kind of homebrewing Lost mines of Phandelver. So where they find this special creation is another secret room that's in the abandoned manor , it takes a few checks to also fix it and understand the notes left behind to activate it.
Basically its a clockwork dragon that starts off as a baby, it has multiple different breathe attacks. it can only use each breathe attack once then needs to recharge either by roll or being fed the element. It's sting attack can also take on elemental damage too. it starts off relatively weak but the best part is you can make it grow by feeding it metal. This takes awhile for each growth stage and it only grows to being a adult wyvern.
But I really am confused with the creator on here so I'm asking this wonderful community for assistance with this endeavor. If anyone wants to help then I would greatly appreciate the help.
You will have to make each growth stage as it’s own individual monster. Most of the rest of it is just plain txt except the rollables which you can learn about here:
In a previous campaign my character acquired a displacer beast kitten, so I made 2 homebrew monsters to cover the stages of development before adult (kitten, "teen"). I wanted to cover the size category changes, as that affects hit dice types (kitten - Small, d6; teen - Medium, d8; adult - Large, d10), along with adjustments to ability scores, like her Strength started as 6, increased to 12 as a teen, and ended with the regular adult value of 18. I used the DMG guidelines for Modifying a Monster to work out reasonable attack damage, AC, HP, and CR.
