So one of my players is running a sorcerer and, after getting a hold of the DMG, wants to try play using spell points instead of spell slots.
Since we use D&D Beyond for gaming, does anyone here know if there is a way to use spell points on here? Or is it just something he'll have to keep track of on paper?
There's another method I sorta figured out while implementing this thread's ideas on my character sheet: adjust the checked boxes in the Spells tab!
For example, a 3rd-level slot is equivalent in spell points (5) to a 1st-level slot plus a 2nd-level slot (2 + 3), so I can check off the two boxes in order to regain/uncheck a 3rd-level box. This allows me to keep the overall structure provided by the spell-slot system, while still having the flexibility of spell points as an option.
We won't be going all the way to Tier 4, but this system also would let her have the second 6th- and 7th-level slots. You gain enough additional points at level-up to make that higher-level slot, seems silly not to be able to just have them? With the stipulation that you still can't make more of those slots than what you'd get by default.
(Now I just need to find out if our DM is actually okay with my Sorcerer potentially casting 3 extra 3rd-level spells in the same adventuring day...)
(UPDATE: she was not ok with it, so that simplifies matters I suppose)

Hi, I have a sorcerer in my group that does that same. We just use pen and paper as we couldn't find the function either
Cool. Maybe one day it'll get added. Thanks 👍
Its not yet implemented in beyond I think.
Spell Points are not officially supported, but you could replicate them with homebrew using an Action with limited uses attached to a homebrewed copy of the subclass. See the Subclasses & Races FAQ, #4: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq).
