I am homebrewing a spell that levels creating 2 effects (additional damage and additional targets). I have finally got the scaling to show up but instead of going from 2d6 to 3d6 its jumping straight to 4d6 for some reason?? If anyone knows whats to see for themselves its called "Grasp of Vara'Noth".
You need to set the spell to public if you want to let us look at your spell.
NOOOOOOO!!!!
Whatever you do, do not set it to public!!! We still will not be able to see anything meaningful, only the text. If you make it public you cannot fix it!! You will have to create a new version and there are dozens of good reasons to not want to do that!!!
The modifier listed for each should only ever be the initial 1d6 Bludgeoning damage. And when you “add Targets” don’t include any damage. More like this:
Under at higher levels
Level Modifier type dice roll
1 bludgeoning 1d6 Add point 1d6
2 bludgeoning 1d6 Add Target
That’s all you need. The first modifier will increase the damage by 1d6 for every level the spell is upcast. The second one will add an additional target for every two levels by which the spell is upcast.
ok its a second level spell starting at 2d6 though ... i put that in and it made the spell scale level up but starting at 1d6 instead of 2d6 at level 2

Okay, if it’s a 2nd level spell that starts with 2d6 then do this:
Under at higher levels
Level Modifier type dice roll
1 bludgeoning 2d6 Add point 1d6
2 bludgeoning 2d6 Add Target
What that tells the computer is “Hey computer, you know that 2d6 this spell does to one target at 2nd-level? When every time the caster up casts this spell by 1 spell slot, add a 1d6 to the damage, and every time the caster up casts this spell by two levels, add another target.”
That’s still all you need is the two “level scales” and it does the rest automatically.
PS- Did you put a separate modifier for every level? Get rid of all of those. You only need the one modifier for how it works at 2nd level. That one modifier and those two level scales will do everything for you.

Here is the url.
Only a Mod will be able to look at it but I might be able to help anyway.
First thing to check: Under “Basic Information” make sure it is set to “Spell Scale” and not one of the other two options.
Under “At Higher Levels” make sure that the “additional damage” is set to 1d6 and make sure that the “level” is set to 1.

Ok i set the modifiers and the at higher levels stuff to start at 1d6. Now at 2nd and 3rd level it doesn't change for some reason...its stuck at 2d6.
What i am trying to achieve is this:
Lvl
1 1d6
2 2d6
3 3d6
4 3d6 plus extra target
5 4d6
6 4d6 plus extra target
7 5d6
8 5d6 plus extra target
You maybe have the “level” part of “at higher level” set to 2 instead of 1 so it’s only bumping the damage every two levels instead of every level?
Can you post a screenshot of the setup for us to look at?

This format for creating forum posts is making it impossible to share the exact picture of whats going on so im gonna write it out:
Under at higher levels
Level Modifier type dice roll fixed value
1 bludgeoning 1d6 Add point 1d6 0
2 bludgeoning 2d6 Add point 2d6 0
3 bludgeoning 3d6 Add point 3d6 0
4 bludgeoning 3d6 add target 3d6 0
5 bludgeoning 4d6 Add point 4d6 0
6 bludgeoning 4d6 add target 4d6 0
7 bludgeoning 5d6 Add point 5d6 0
8 bludgeoning 5d6 add target 5d6 0
You have to host the image on a site like imgur.com first, DDB doesn’t host pics like that.
